Not the greatest but I'm thinking of swapping out the 280x for a 1060 or an rx480. Picked the 280x up cheap though to complete my build but it'll do for now!

Yeah mid 70's would be ideal,im finding with the zotac that the fans become audible around 75% so once the cards hits 70C they ramp up to that as its the highest i really want them going as i dont want the rig to be loud, that keeps the card j in the 70's (78C max) with the games that push it hardest like Witcher and Crysis 3.

Yeah I was hammering the witcher yesterday, GPU usage 100% most of the time. Its a good work out for clocks and cooling!.

Lads, if you have NVidia gfx, disable NVidia stream service if you don't stream. you can expect few extra points in benchmarks.

I found a memory OC actually made the card worse! Keeping them at mid 70's seems to be the key, anything higher and they throttle. I haven't touched power limits or fan profiles yet either.

Played around with the fan profile, have it boosting to a steady 2075 while hovering in the low 70s and the fans at about 80% which isn't too noisy, my bloody HDD is still the noisiest thing in my PC! Upped the case fans a bit higher to get more cool air into the GPU area which seems to help.

My ram is rated 2400, but works on 2700 no problem. plus your ram is made by avexir, which as far as i remember is a premium brand, so should be ok to overclock.

i went with the non k version so overclocking not really an option, might have been a mistake in hindsight but didin't really think id want to overclock. presume yours is a k model?

my gpu is running as stock out of the box as well, not tried to do anything with that either, probably should

thats a nice boost over my scores that you got

One good thing for you is you got a Z170 motherboard so just look up the bios to allow overclocking of a non k chip and do a overclock on the chip.

just looking at that now. thanks. probably need to get a better cooler before i try and of this, only running the stock cooler that came with the cpu now

i did it with the stock cooler for the tests, wouldnt leave it running with that overclock on a stock cooler.
Ordered a better cooler today for 30 quid on amazon.
you should be safe to go 3.9ghz on your stock cooler, i was running it for days like that.

Should maybe a few other benchmarks be thrown in the mix along with 3dmark? I mean it's nice and all, but it would always be nice to have a repository of boardsies own gaming benchmark scores, especially when speccing rigs.

    Unigen? Always liked that one.

Part of the problem with Unigine is everybody has to make sure they use the exact same settings and versions, which is more difficult than you would think.
