Anyone around these parts have any idea what the process is for getting a doctors note to get time off work to deal with personal stress?

I think you just go to your GP and explain and ask for it.

Yep, go to your GP and explain. Under data protection they can just put down "unwell" if you don't want your employer to know the reason behind your illness.

    Hope things improve for you.

The doc should just be able to provide the cert. Technically an employer has no right to know why an employee is being certified sick for the most part. That's between the employee and their doctor. As long as the doc is willing to certify the absence there's not much else to worry about really unless the absence is going to be a lengthy one. In which case the employer may refer the employee to a doctor of their choosing who will confirm for them the validity of the original cert. But unless there's a real need for an employer to know why an employee is sick they don't need to know the details and shouldn't even ask.

    Go to your GP
    Tell your GP the issue
The GP, if they think it's appropriate, will write a note that says something like "DGRulz is unfit for work from <this date> to <that date>"
    That's all

There can be a significant difference between personal stress and work related stress so careful on the wording if you're divulging the reason. If work isn't the source of the stress, the company is well within their rights to have an independent medical professional assess the individual (and can do regardless after a certain period)

There shouldn't be an issue with a doctor providing a note for leave to deal with genuine personal stress. They may refer the person to a mental health professional but can freely sign you off themselves.

Thanks for the fast replies folks. My dog has been sick for a while and they havent been able to prove he has what they think he has. Got a call the other day to say a test finally came back with proof. The operation to fix it either works and hes fine or it doesn't and goes on the table. I know its probably seen as unprofessional to even try to take sick leave for something like this but I woke up this morning and can't get the thought of whats to come on Thursday out of my head. Sitting in work at the moment, can't focus on what I'm doing, chest is heavy and its a little hard to breath. Don't know if being at home would be better or worse. Anyway, I'm rambling. Thanks again folks.

Doctor will sign you off. You're not fit for work due to personal circumstances.

All the best with the pooch.

Head to your GP and explain it. They'll sign you of.

    Hope all goes well!!

Sorry to hear. You're absolutely right to go and get signed off. Best of luck with everything. Fingers crossed everything works out right for you on Thursday.

Best of luck with everything DGRulz. There's nothing at all unprofessional about taking time when you need it. At the end of the day it's only work. There are far more important things in life.

Yea I know, I'm not terribly busy in the office at the moment anyway. I suppose I should get the doctors note to cover me for Thursday/ Friday anyway even if Im not going to use it before. The last few times I've had to bring him up to UCD for tests and potential procedures throughout this whole ordeal HR has taken holiday leave from me in retrospect.

The difference in how employers deal with this stuff can be quite stark. I've been lucky for the most part that my employers have been pretty understanding. A quick chat explaining what the issue is and an offer to make up the time has usually done the trick. But equally I've been in situations where my employer has been far less sympathetic. At the end of the day though they should be looking to make this stuff easier on employees, not harder. People remember it if you look after them. They remember it better if you don't. And there really should always be an element of give and take to both sides of the relationship.

Ed Sheeran has quit Twitter, seems he's a bit sensitive to criticism about his acting.

He should try to be less sh*t then.

Smart comments aside, I don't really blame him. I would put the blame squarely at the door of the showrunners. Why on earth would they want a massive name like him in a cameo is beyond me. Was completely out of place and he can't act. A big name cameo like that was only ever going to detract from an ensemble cast made up of smaller name actors.

Actually, the whole scene felt disjointed and at odds with the general tone. It was more akin to a Enid Blyton book given the happy, smiley nature of them around the camp fire sharing food. "Five Play Soldiers & Go Camping".

    Enjoyed the episode overall though.

If he was going to be in it, it needed to be in a very brief non-speaking role. Have him in the background in a tavern singing or something. I know they were trying to convey something in his scene but shoe-horning Sheeran into it was not necessary.

He gave up twitter ages ago. I don't even follow him but I remember the article was shared before.

I didn't think he was that bad. If they were going to put him anywhere I think Symon Silver Tongue makes the most sense.

It struck me as total product placement. Apparently the actress who plays Arya is a big fan which is part of why it happened. Was still a great episode so didn't bother me. Reminded me of this tho

Didn't he quit Twitter a couple of weeks ago around the time of his Glastonbury gig?

In terms of the episode I agree it was distracting. And that could have been a great scene showing
the difference between the troops and their lords
    .

Overall the episode was a good one, although I did think the ending fell a bit flat. For me the most interesting things about this season as it stands are
the relationship between Cersei and Jamie after she did the one thing he broke his oath to prevent (and her general borderline mania at this stage), how Daenerys' armies will fare in the cold and how they are going to pull all the political storylines together while dealing with the all out action required for the army of the white walkers. There's so much to cover in 2 seasons, short seasons at that. I just hope they don't shortchange the white walker elements. They've been coming since episode 1 so they should be a major force that gets dealt with across numerous episodes rather than something they deal with in just 1 or 2 at the tail end
    .

Ed Sheeran didn't bother me. Just like any other extra except he is recognisable. He said like 2 words.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

To be clear, he played someone who was prominent in the books and the song he was singing was also important to a character or two. It was just one of those little throwaway nods to the readers and a good excuse to guarantee a big social media presence for the first episode.

As for the scene, it wasn't about him or his companions. It was about the other character who was there and that character's choice to accept the offer that was made to them.

There is no mercy for people who leave it late this time!

Edit: in work I have one colleague who hasn't watched it so we can't discuss it. Amongst my mates there is another one person who hasn't watched it so we can't discuss it there either. People like this should be sent to mount joy until the season is finished

Spoiler: well we've kind of spoiled the whole thing already so I may as well just tell you Ed Sheeran gets naked in it.

I only found out who that guy was the other day. I wouldn't have noticed him and there was certainly nothing noticeably bad about his 2 minutes of screen time.

Do you get to see his Blinky tattoo and if so in your esteemed opinion is it a good tattoo?

**Please note, I'm fully aware he doesn't get naked**

Rammstein are closer NIN than the drop kick Murphy's I'd say. Would have liked to see Rancid but the DKM's less so. Have visions of a load of semi arthritic old men doing themselves damage trying to mosh at that one :pac::pac:

I have to confess, I did end up in the mosh pit at DKMs. First time in a pit in 15 years. Great gig!

It was funny having a few pints in town before the show and doing a bit of people watching. It was very easy to see who was going to DKM and who was going to Longitude.
