It looks like a cross between Skyrim and the Last of us. A huge departure from the previous games. Any word on release?

I like the way it's going. I mean, he has killed all the Greek Gods, so it's only natural that they have to move it to some other world. I'd also imagine that this will allow them to reset his powers, what with being in Norse mythology now, i'd imagine his Greek powers won't work. And it looks like it's going the route of the recent Tomb Raider games, exploration, hunting, etc.

Although, i'm also a bit hesitant about the kid. I seriously hope half, or any, of the game will not revolve around minding him. Time will tell! Either way, it'll be a day 1 purchase for me, I loved the previous GoW games.

I wish they hadn't stuck with Kratos. His Angry Mr Angry McAngry routine has well and truly outstayed it's welcome and it looks like they're going to stick with it.

I kind of liked the Angry McAngry routine in GoW2. He completed his character arc in the first game so there was no were else to go from there except head first into silliness. It wasn't until the kind of crappy 3 when for some reason it tried to be serious when it got stupid.

The new God of War certainly looks different from the rest in the series... yet somehow manages to look like every other third person game out at the moment. The combat also kind of looked like a poor mans Dark Souls. I'll remain sceptical until there are hands on impressions.

Also the setting just seemed all kinds of bonkers and made no sense. I'm all for that if they want to play it crazy but with the child character I can see them trying to do something serious which is just going to come across farcical.

Surely the kid gets offed early doors and you set off on a revenge mission.

Nope the kid is apparently going to be in it for most of the game and has assigned buttons for co-op actions.

I wish this co op stuff died a death or kept to squad based multi player games. God of War should be and always has been a single player story game

I really hope they do it right. This is enough to turn me off the game. If it somehow managed to be anything like Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, well then I'm willing to give that a go. But the reason that was so good was because it was two adults, like Half Life 2. The Last of Us and TT's The Walking Dead are the only games I remember playing where a secondary character is a child and isn't a pain in the hole! I'll keep my hope up, as I know now that if the child is going to be in it for the most of the game, it's probably a set up for future games, with mini-Kratos being the main character. Or it's setting mini-Kratos up for a death so Kratos can get Greek Angry again!

It would be cool if it was an ageing child in the game, as in you do a few missions, beef him up then see his a few years later, tougher.

TBF at least they are attempting something different.

Game got seriously stale come GOW 3

    New IP in 2016? LUL

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,405 ✭✭✭gizmo

I'm guessing folk forgot Santa Monica Studio were working on a new IP that was cancelled back in 2014 and led to a series of layoffs and departures which included GoW3 Director Stig Asmussen?

I guess the upside in terms of the new God of War title is that Cory Barlog, who originally took over the series from David Jaffe is back on board and in charge of this. He was interviewed about the change in direction of the series a little over a week ago. Looks like he may have even taken a bit of inspiration from Jaffe following the release of Ascension...hopefully not the neck snapping bit in this case though. :pac:

The start is meant to be amazing and have some epic fights early on.... and for that reason I am not gonna spoil it for myself.
Release day purchase... only a month away. I can wait

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,381 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Same as Sean, and I've been doing it across every media I enjoy, watch the reveal trailer, watch the next trailer with some gameplay, cut off all media for that until I get it. Best way to enjoy stuff imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,726 ✭✭✭✭Penn

Yeah I've been avoiding as much about it at this stage. Want to be completely surprised about it. From the few bits I have seen though, it looks utterly amazing.

Same as, done a slight bit of reading the previews but that's about it.
It needed a change in direction. I'm liking the look of it.

I believe there are no cut scenes, the game is one continuous shot.

Reviews out tomorrow, can't wait to get my hands on this easily my most anticipated of the year.

Potential game of the year contender i reckon.

I'd possibly recommend reading the Wikis for the story of 1, 2 & 3. I'd imagine there'll be references.

    Pre-ordered earlier from Smyths!
€50, which is a great price for a new 1st party Sony game :)

    Wow, that's impressive.
This was never on my radar as I thought the style was too close to Horizon which I could not get into.
May be something I pick up now though.

God of War [PS4 -93] reviews are pouring in, and they're mostly stellar: https://t.co/Taw58IYUuT
Easy Allies: "God of War doesn’t just feel like the next step for the franchise, but for the entire video game industry." https://t.co/MTWK1el9ew

    High praise indeed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,449 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

Kotaku praised it too, said it took a while for him to get used to the new Camera angle.

That wont be an issue for me, and i'm also a huge fan of Norse mythology so its a win win.

Plenty of reviews that are less.... hyperbolic than that one. Still not seen a bad review. Looks like a solid action game.

Of course, i posted it tongue in cheek.
It does look like a great action game and one ill be picking up day one.
Its obviously something they've put a lot of passion into and after the generic mehness of far cry its a game im looking forward to with great anticipation.

Not everyone is positive about it.
Eurogamer's main negative is that the story is dull and heavy handed.

Didn't really expect the story to be great shakes. God of War 2 was complete and utter garbage in that regard but gloriously garbage.

He played through ALL of the GOW games again only recently on Stream in anticipation for this upcoming one.

Which is kind of my problem with Easy Allies and Game Trailers before them. They just come across as excitable amateurs and the FF7 remake announcement at E3 is a perfect summation of that. I also kind of have issues with giving reviews to super fans rather than people with knowledge of the game type. You aren't going to get an unbiased informative review as a result.

Going by other reviews the game is quite derivative of every other triple A game out there but carries it out so well it doesn't matter. Far from the industry changer easy allies says it is!

Kind of interested in trying this. I loved GoW1 and 2, not so much the sequels. This looks like they've taken an awful lot of influence from Dark Souls combat.

Kind of a difficult one this as games can be very subjective. There's some games that haven't clicked with me but are clearly very good games based on various reviews and awards. I'd agree though that a fan of a game is likely to gloss over problems with it or completely ignore them.

I agree with this. Dark Souls and Bloodborne are constantly regarded as brilliant games, but I absolutely hate them. So i wouldn't be able to give an un-biased opinion on them. Same rings true for reviewers, which is why I rarely pay attention to them. Only the person playing the game will know if they enjoy it or not.

I don't think there's anything wrong with disliking a particular game. Some people just don't like certain things. I hate eggs for example. I'm not going to name the games I don't get because it leaves you open to all kinds of ridicule. I absolutely love Bloodborne btw. :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,539 ✭✭✭The Specialist

    Why do you hate them

I hate them too, purely from the gameplay perspective. They are akin to hammering nails in to your own dick over and over again. Personally, I prefer playing a game that allows meaningful progress without being ridiculously hard - the idea of being entertained by something so frustrating just baffles me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,042 ✭✭✭zl1whqvjs75cdy

I'm still in the maybe camp on bloodborne. I am a filthy casual though and just dont have the time to devote to be murdered several 100 times on a playthrough.
