Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anyone any ideas what it's about?

"various bug fixes and improvements" was all that was in the patch notes. Some reporting is fixed an issue with black bars on screen

Playing on Give me a Challenge and it's really tough, that became apparent straight away when it took me 7 or 8 attempts to clear the first enemy encounter, although that was partly down to learning the new controls and only figuring out where the shield was on attempt 5. I've found using Atreus's bow to be slow but effective hold back and let him do the work, it feels cheap at times but it's the only way I've managed to clear some areas.

I'm at the mountain's base now, just had a fight that included 5 of those guys that regenerate their health if you don't finish them off quickly, had to abandoned the hold back approach and isolate 1 at a time to finish them (whilst avoiding something else).

It feels like GoW and yet it doesn't, I'm enjoying it so far it's a good evolution that was badly needed.

Nolan North and Troy Baker confirmed as VA's in this. I'm guessing North is Brok and Baker is his brother.

Switched from Resolution to Performance and the game looks even better. The framerate bump and HDR really kicked in. Game looks stunning in certain areas.

So far, I can see why it's getting high ratings and reviews. In many ways it's the product of Sony exclusives to come before it. It has the puzzles and scenery of Uncharted, the story and brutality of The Last of Us, and the fast-paced combat and RPG elements of Horizon. Yet it still feels enough like a unique experience to not simply be a clone of any of them.

Looks great but a lack of funds and gaming time mean I'm going to wait until there's a sale to pick it up.

You can get it for €40 by buying just cause 3 in Argos for €20, then trading that in to gamestop plus €20 for GoW.

The makers of JC3 must be wondering what the fook is going on with the increase in physical sales.

Balls. Wish I saw this earlier. I traded few games in CEX then picked up the game in Smyths. Ah well. Been playing for a short time, still in the tutorial area but liking what I've played so far. Rarely get games on release but this one seemed to really appeal to me and the reviews report both players and critics seem to be universally good. It'll be cool to be involved in the initial discoveries people will no doubt make for once.

It's weird I never played the other games, and this very much is a game of this generation but I get a real feeling of my PS2 days playing this for some reason. Not a negative in any sense for me.

Can't believe you haven't played any of the other ones. Do yourself a favour and get the PS3 collection. 1&2 are the best

What I've picked up so far is they are linking in the past story piece by piece. Really well done.

    I've always liked the games.

The older games on easy/normal they are button mashers , on hard the game gets good.

Got as far as the World Serpent before i had to start a new save on second hardest difficulty as the highest one was actually ****ing stupid. I love hard games, Nioh, Ninja Gaiden, Dark Souls, you name it, but this game feels like my character doesn't have the tools to deal with the situations and I have to find ways to exploit the game or enemy AI as I have done in alot of the encounters.

What broke the camels back was a pack of 5 dudes that could regenerate life and there was no way to interrupt them because of the Hard mode only mechanic that makes them immune to most forms of CC.

Gonna keep the save file, might come back to it if I feel the need to smash up some joypads

I'm playing lower difficulty too but I can tell you that you can get a near double your HP around that point from the apples and increase to rage not long after in the realm. But yeah I feel the invest in XP into skills doesn't really keep you alive longer and the new runes for L1 + R1/R2 moves have to be set and committed to and are mostly situational. You get a press square to revive thing too at the store but it's not going to be much good on give me god of war.

Only found 1 apple and 1 rage horn up to that point so i must have missed some. Gonna look around areas more this time.

I keep thinking this is the best game I ever played without an AK47, maybe the best ever.

Respect to anybody playing this on the either of the two higher difficulty settings. I went with normal and finding it a challenge. I think I have to stop using the lock on function as I'm finding that kills me the most. Really enjoying the game. The second boss fight (ye know who I mean) had me bouncing around on my chair as I swung, blocked and parried. Excellent, immensely satisfying combat.

Kotaku put up a screen showing smallest text and largest text. Looks like I still won't be reading journal entries :(

I honestly thought old age was catching up to me, glad other people having problems reading it as well.

I was wondering what the lost items tab in the store was. Seems if you don't pick up an item that drops from an enemy it will appear there. Nice.

    Brilliant boss!

in fairness boss fights have always been fairly epic in God of War games.

That was a fantastic introduction! I loved it!

Hasn't anyone progressed the story to, and this isn't a spoiler, the chisel part?
When you meet a Wulver for the first time. Do the stun kill on it.
    Now that's God of War.

Have to say, once you start making your way down the Axe combat tree its gets so much easier to stay in the heat of combat.

I have played maybe 6 hours of this since I got it.

Am I the only one to think this is basically the last of us in nordic times?.

As by god it does not fell like a god of war game to play.

I am loving the game one of the best games I have ever played but its not God of war. Its a proper old school action game we're you need to think about all fights you are doing as one or two mistakes you are dead.

Pitty I work a near 50 hour week so I won't get time to play this to next weekend again.

Also anyone playing this on the pro?. As this is making my pro sound like a jet going off.

I’ve turned the house upside down looking for Just Cause 3 to trade for this. Can’t find it anywhere :(

I’ve heard people mention Bloodborne and RPG. Is there much/any focus on collecting or crafting? Because that just isn’t my jam at all.

yeah playing it on a pro, no jet noises, fist pumps my neighbours hate me a lot but no jetz

There is but it's really not overly complicated.

All the systems are excellent and the tutorials are great.

Trust me this game is just so good.

I don't buy the whole "it's not god of war"

There are loads of simple throwbacks that keep this true to its source. Like how vicious he is in combat, kratos is still a bastard.

    The execution kills

    The boss fights

    The way he opens crates

The way kratos jumps and moves on cliff edges

And from what I'm picking up from the story so far it's clearly showing Kratos and his history

  • Anyone cop how to see how many hours you have played?

It's not really an rpg, think Uncharted or tomb raider with hack'n'slash instead of guns. There is collecting and crafting but they're pretty minimal and you don't have to go out of your way to do it.

Yeah after dying about a dozen times I quickly backed out of that fight, barely caused a scratch. Need to level up/get better gear.

As per others the Pro is making a lot of racket.

How do you kill the small blue lizard with the orange tail, he just keeps burrowing every time I try to hit it. Arrows are no good either. Seems like its like thos things in Dark Souls you chase get materials from.

EDIT: Had to use a summon on it to get it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,932 ✭✭✭YouSavedMyLife

Playing in Resolution mode and in some scenes the pro's fans start to spin up, but most of the time its standard pro fan noise. Oddly enough the worse offender is the map, seems the fans get their loudest every time i open it.

Just got back to the lake after dropping down the difficulty from the hardest. Upgraded a bunch of stuff bought some new skills and now the game feels to easy :D Although i feel like im still early in the game as all the enemies are small humanoid's.

One thing i miss from the older games is the QTE's on R3 kill grabs. Snapping a Trolls neck in this game isn't nearly as satisfying as the older games cause you don't have to rotate the sticks.

I think my favorite R3 in this so far is the flying guys when you grab their spear and drag them out of the air and batter them with it.

What control scheme are you guys using for quick turn ?

I'm not a fan of any of the 3 options provided.

-Down on DPAD means I have to take my thumb off the left analogue stick
-R1+R2 feels strange as they are my 2 attack moves, not sure why I'd use em to turn
-Down on Left Analoge and L3 - I hate pressing L3 anyways and while pulling the stick back is even worse.

Like...Back and Square or Circle would be much better. They're not used much in fights from memory. Unless they are later in the game with some special items.

A small gripe in an otherwise amazing game.
