A message came up on my account today looking for me to provide more details re tax compliance. This i understand but the system seem to have an issue recognizing my PPS number. Have done the letter both capital and small. Anyone else having this issue

Did it yesterday and had no problem, my pps was already filled in. Ring them if you still have a problem, I've found them great to deal with.

Did you try omitting IE at the start?

I have some very stupid questions (from a total newbie). What means those letters beside the shares names ( A, B, C...)? How can I know if a share is paying dividends in cash or is just accumulating on the value of the shares. Today I had to receive few euros, but instead the value of the shares went up. I thought it would arrive in cash on my cash funds.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,029 ✭✭✭Sabre Man

The letters indicate share classes. Some shares have different voting rights (and possibly other benefits). I think all dividends are paid in cash on DeGiro. You will see your dividends under "Upcoming dividends" until you get paid, which could be several weeks later.

For dividends, what happens is that on the ex-dividend date, anyone who holds a share on this date are entitled to the dividend. To prevent people from speculating, the share price falls by the same amount on this date, but the share price could still go up if a lot of people are buying.

I am wondering about this too, I have some shares on nyse and got 35 Euro divideds recently, and I see some tax deducted. I'm not over 1200 Euro threshold either. Why would that be ? Can't remember exactly how much

Dividend is not allowed to be used in the 1250 tax free CGT. Dividend is treated as income and is taxed accordingly.

It could have been the required 15% holding of dividend for tax compliance in the USA.

Thx, I filled up some form to say I was tax resident in Ireland, is that form not supposed to make you exempt from that tax ?

No, it means that the US *only* withhold 15%, it would have been more (I think 30%) otherwise. Also you'll get a tax credit for that 15% in your irish tax return, so it effectively counts towards the Irish tax you owe on your dividends.

Is their email service normally slow? First email sent to them about account opening and it has been 2 days without reply now and I sent money last Thursday

Yeah they were slow enough when I had some issues at the start. Having said that they got them sorted ok.

A week on now and still don't have access to my money. (3 phone calls made and 2 emails too)

The site might be good once you get access but for anyone joining, expect your money to be nowhere for a week or so.

I only joined a fortnight ago and my money was in the account 2 days after I transferred it as they stated to expect. Are you sure you transferred it from the correct account?

On the phone yesterday they said they have had a lot of new customers and are going through lots of payments and it would be in before the end of the day. Again today they said the same thing

Same as here. I did transfer money from my KBC account a few days and that caused an issue as it didn't seem to send the IBAN with it so they had no idea what account it was coming from. They emailed me and asked me to send a screenshot from my online banking of the transaction and all was sorted soon after. Are you with KBC by any chance?

Anyone ran into spending limit errors? Went to order some ETFs and got greeted with an error that the order was above my internal spending limit. Order wasn't exactly large (sub 1k)

Are you trying to order more than you have in your cash balance? I find even if it calculates it as less than your cash balance, it will still give you an error if it's relatively close. Can you post a screenshot and I can tell you if it's the same error I was getting.

Your cash balance needs to be able to cover the associated fees with making the trade also. The fees are not displayed in the Buy screen, you can only see them in the account statement screen after the trade is made

Degiro today took me 12,50 from my balance cause I have shares on Nasdaq, NYSE and ASE. It seems I will have to pay 7,50 montly plus the 2,50 yearly (but they took me 2,50 € more). So now it would be better to have everything from the same exchange stock?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,805 ✭✭✭✭keane2097

Starting from 2017 the connectivity fees will be charged on a monthly basis and is now aligned with our other monthly fees. The fee itself will not change and will stay €2.5 per year with a max 0.25% of your portfolio value. This fee is applicable for all exchanges except the US derivative exchange. Connectivity fees are regardless the amount of transactions or positions held. US derivative Exchange connection fees stay at €5,- per month, regardless the amount of transactions or positions held.

For example: your total portfolio has a value of € 5.000,- and in January you have traded on the Irish Stock Exchange and Eurex. You also hold positions on the NYSE.
Irish Stock Exchange € 0,00 (positions & transactions) (home market)
    Eurex € 2,50 (transactions)
    NYSE € 2,50 (positions)

For January the Connectivity fees will be 2 x € 2.50 = € 5.00 and you can find these costs in your account under “Giro Exchange Connection Fee 2017”. In February we will repeat this process, but you won’t have to pay for the exchanges which already have been charged for the entire year in January. Connectivity fees make it possible to provide access to this enormous amount of exchange and technical service in Europe, Asia and North-America. DEGIRO uses a ‘pay-as you-play’ principle whereby solely the users of the respective exchanges carry the costs.

I signed up Tuesday and sent a bank transfer across. I got the same email as you outlined above then this morning (that they weren't able to verify the transfer so asked for screenshots from my online banking).

I've just sent them that back so hopefully it'll be set up quickly enough now. So far the process has been a very positive experience for me though.

Which bank did you send it from, if you don't mind me asking. I sent mine from a KBC account and it was the transaction that caused issues. I also sent funds from a PTSB account and that went through with no issue.

yep, no problem at all. I sent funds from Bank of Ireland.

So, it's not just a KBC issue then. Hopefully, it's a rare occurrence.

Nope. Same happened me - Ulster Bank.

I was going to get into a debate with the customer support rep that I could simply photoshop the image to fake whatever info he wanted, but decided against it.

I bought my first ETFs the other day.

I'm a little confused here... on their page it doesn't mention a 'monthly' fee for connection HERE. Just a max of 2.50 per year.
Where is the monthly fee quoted?

It's €2.50 per exchange you use per year.

All they are saying is they are checking and charging for that once per month instead of once per year now.

So if you use two exchanges in Jan they will charge you €5. If you add another one in Feb they will charge you €2.50 in Feb for adding the third one, instead of waiting till the end of the year or whenever they used to charge you for all of them to take the €7.50.

I found out about Degiro from an article in the Irish times.

How fast can you sell shares?

Just to bring to everyone's attention they are not covered by the Dutch compensation scheme. So your money is not protested by any regulators compensation procedure.

    See new thread for discussion.
