Thanks, Still can't get it to go through, I've selected a Market Order now and it's pending. Went into pending at 7,160 shares. I might cancel the order and try set a limit order later on.

    Thanks for your help.

What is the name of the share you are trying to buy? Some London listed shares don't accept limit orders, maybe the Degiro software isn't set up to handle that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,099 ✭✭✭✭Francie Barrett

Nevermind, I see you said Providence Resources. That is quoted on SETSqx which allows limit orders.

The only thing I can thing of is that Degiro somehow have their orders routed to some sort of funny exchange. I think you'll just have to get on the phone and ask them.

On De Giro: I am trying to place an order on the London Stock Exchange at a price of £11.63 a share, hoping to buy 71,600 share (approx. €9,500).

However, I can getting the following error message (which is attached): rejected order because price does not match ticksize

Any idea what I need to do to get around this? I understand this stock exchange is two point decimal but what do I need to enter to buy the share? I thought I need to enter 00.1163 and then buy 71,60000 units? This doesn’t work either so not sure what to do.

    Any help appreciated!
Ok, I think I finally understand the issue. The root cause is in that screen shot. You can only submit limit orders in multiples sizes of 0.25p. So if Providence are trading at 11.1p, then you can either submit the buy order at 11p or 11.25p.

That works, can successfully place an order by rounding to 0.25p. thank you.
Would be great if the de giro gave your description as the error message.

Appreciate your help on this one.

DEGIRO have a long way to go when it comes to supplying useful error messages. Its like the windows 95 of the trading world.

DEGIRO have a long way to go with a few items all right. Including total costs on the confirmation screen would be one idea not just the total share price.

The total costs field is something they have said is already in the development pipeline, so its on the way.

    Quick question

Say the shares are at €50, and in after hours trading they rise to €51 and they open next morning at €50.5.

I happened to see they were at 51 and decided to buy so I put in my price of buy at €52.

I look after the trade was executed next morning and see it was executed at a price of €50.5.

Where does the €1.50 go, do I get it back or do Degiro pocket it ?

If DeGiro buy at €50.5 on your behalf then that is the price that you will be charged.

so if I had put in my price of €100, I would still only have been charged €50.5 ?

I presume this was a limit order with your limit set at €52, so they are obliged to effect the order at the best possible price, same if it was €100, although I wouldn't be chancing a limit like that

Anyone buy government or corporate bonds through Degiro? If so how did they get on, any issues?

Anyone know when you receive dividends has the tax been paid by DeGiro or do you need to declare it? I know it goes into your cash available amount, just wondering if tax is withheld or what the story is.

What's the best/cheapest way to buy ETF's priced in USD when your money is in Euro? Transfer to DeGiro and change it there or is there an intermediary that would give a better exchange rate?

US tax is withheld, but you still need to declare those dividends to Irish revenue to pay Irish tax.

So if you're invested in Vanguard funds, US tax is withheld, I declare it to Irish revenue and pay tax on that @ 20%?

You declare the gross dividend before US tax is withheld (You can get this info in the yearly report from Degiro), and Irish revenue will automatically give you a tax credit for the US tax you paid, so you end up paying Irish tax - US tax paid withheld by degiro.

With american dividend make sure you have filled out the W8-BEN form to declare you are not american resident. If you fill out the form the withholding tax is 15% if you don't the withholding tax is 30% In either case Revenue will only give a credit for the 15%

I got charged a 'Giro Exchange Connection Fee 2016' of €22.50 there on 30/12/16 which I just noticed. Going to mail them about it now but just a heads up for anyone else

    Mine was 7.5 Euros.

It's 2.5 Euros per year for each exchange market you trade on.

Just for any one else interested. DeGiro's rates are better than CurrencyFair so you'll get slightly more for your money by letting DeGiro do the conversion than using CurrencyFair.

    Last question, appreciate the help!

W8-BEN form was already filled out so assuming 15% withheld, I declare what I received + 15% and pay 20% tax on that amount to revenue? Pity it can't just be reinvested as is.

The Degiro sponsored forum seems to be closed.

How do you go about submitting the W-8BEN form?

If I remember right, it pops up asking you to fill it in when you create the account.

Thanks AC, just checked my 2016 statement and they withheld 15% of my dividends so I guess I must have filled it out at some point.

Yep, fill out the form from the FAQ question about transferring shares to them and email them with it. They'll do the rest. Costs €10 per position.
