I've ordered a case from Spigen. I had one for my m8 and it was very good. I don't like the flip style cases.

I'm gonna give EMUI a chance and if I don't get to grips with it then I'll try Google Now!

I tried Google Now and Nova and went with Nova. It's set up pretty much exactly how I want it now.

Read an online review which was very complimentary about the P9 but had one major concern. It said battery life was dreadful when connected to 4G.
Anyone here know if this is the case? I've a Sony Z3 at the moment and looking to upgrade soon and I'm pretty much always connected to 4G. Rarely use WiFi. No point in getting the phone if the battery won't last even a day on 4G.

I have the P9 Plus which has a slightly larger batter (3400mAH vs 3000). Using it on 4G I'm getting well into a second day with regular browsing but I guess it's down to how much you're using it.

Haven't noticed any issues with mine battery wise when on 4 g for long periods

Ok I have bitten the bullet and purchased the P9 Plus international dual sim version (about €630) and awaiting delivery from Wonda mobile. That's about same price as normal single sim version from Amazon at moment.
Only available in gold so hoping it doesn't look too tacky! But thought dial sim could be handy.

Also interested in getting the P9 plus! How are you finding it so far and what were Wonda Mobile like to deal with? Did it take long to arrive after ordering and was the box sealed with proper Uk/Irish charger?

Love it. Fast charge is excellent. Fingerprint scanner is very responsive. Have been using the IR remote control which is also excellent.

Wonda were grand, I was a little worried about ordering from them but it all worked out. Took 2 weeks though - seemed to come from Hong Kong to the UK, back to France and then to Ireland!

Box perfect - UK charger, sealed etc.

Cheers, thanks for reply!! I've been debating whether to just get the P9 sim free from 3 or just go for it and wait longer and order the P9 Plus online! I do prefer bigger screens as using an iPhone 6 Plus at the moment and had a Note 4 before that and not forgetting the other extras the Plus has over the normal P9! Same as you, bit dubious about ordering from Wonda but from looking online they seem to get decent reviews!!

Go for the plus. I've had both in my hands together and the plus is so much better. Also the plus has the extra gig of ram. If you're buying off Wonda make sure you know which plus model you are getting. The L29 I got is the dual sim international. There is another variant that doesn't have NFC or Ir remote.

On Wonda, I had engaged in emails about delivery times and prices and they were good responders. Only risk I guess is that it's messier if you have a problem with the phone trying to get it back to them etc...They do have tracking so you can see how slowly your phone is getting to you!

Couldn't resist it, just ordered the Plus there about half an hour ago from Wonda!! Yea, ordered the VIE-L29 dual sim version! Hopefully mine won't take quite as roundabout trip as yours to get here as going on holidays on 4th Aug so it's cutting it close as to whether it'll arrive before I go!!

Does anyone have the issue where camera vidoes can't be played at all while in gallery

Not on P9 plus. I did notice that the videos are in the camera folder and also in the "camera video" folder. They play for me from either folder.

Can't get them to play at unless I use Es file explorer ,
Kinda odd took some vidoes of the airshow yesterday and can't play them unless I use another app .

I'll give Huawei a shout and see if they have a solution

you could download vlc player and use that as the default, then things should play regardless of where you load them from.

    Good news:

    http://www.xda-developers.com/android-nougat-beta-build-for-the-huawei-p9-and-mate-8-is-available-get-it-now/
Android Nougat’s fifth developer preview was recently released for Nexus devices, but for the past few months owners of any other non-Google devices have been waiting to get a chance to taste some of that sweet Nougat. We’ve known that OEMs have been internally testing Nougat releases for their devices (after all, Google shares their work with their partners to ensure timely updates for all) and it seems that Huawei is no exception. Today, an OTA link that updates the Huawei P9 and the Mate 8 to a beta build of Android 7.0 Nougat has been captured that includes the updated EMUI 5.0 skin.

I have the P9 for two weeks now and it's a beautiful phone. I put Nova Launcher on it coz I wanted an app drawer and I'm very happy. I have only one issue and that's with the speaker being on the bottom. i'm coming from an M8 with the dual speakers which was brilliant for me as I'm slightly hard of hearing. Other than that, I'm very happy.

Did you get the lastest firmware update at all

Well there are no updates waiting so I guess I did.

Yeah it's fine! Doesn't add a whole load of bulk or weight but I feel far more confident when holding the phone now as it's rubbery.

I have an issue with the phone. My timer is stuck!! It won't budge even though I've shut down the phone and I've force closed the app.

Collected my P9 plus from Parcel Motel this morning, haven't had too much of a chance to play with it yet but from just a few minutes setting it up I'm very impressed with it. Build quality is great, phone is nicer to hold in the hand than iPhone 6 plus, lighter as well and a but smaller all round even though screen size is the same. From first impressions anyway would recommend it and also Wonda Mobile were great, no worries about using them again..

How are people finding this phone after a few months of ownership?

All initial reviews seem good, but any issues afterwards?

Loving it. Camera is fantastic and the phone just responds so fast to everything. Also doesn't seem to slow down after heavy use.

Honestly the best phone I've had in ages.

I'm looking my P9 as well, have it about 3 months now. One thing I don't like is when I'm playing music or a podcast and I open a game, the audio level of the music/podcast drops a bit. Anyone know any ways around this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,444 ✭✭✭SteM

Picked this up last week on contract and am loving this phone. Had to install Action Launcher to give me an app drawer and a bit more customisation but the phone itself is fantastic.

Picked it up today. Quality phone!

Battery could be slightly better, i would have thought.

Mate of mine recently got one of these. I was pretty impressed. Great build quality and the camera seems to take nicer shots than my s7 does!

I'm considering this or just going for the cheaper GX8.

Camera and processor is a bit better in the P9, is that worth the extra €200 it would cost me over the GX8? Upgrading from a Huawei G7.

Did anyone have the ROG power saving switched on? I think I might have had it switched on the whole time.

I just switched it off and it was like removing a layer of cling film off the screen. Everything is so cleaner and crisper.

It's supposed to be good for the battery but I think I much prefer to have it switched off.
