Huawei P9/P9 plus - coming out shortly.

Anyone considering this over LG G5 or Samsung Galaxy S7 etc?

    http://www.gsmarena.com/huawei_p9-7972.php

Yeah looks good. But for such a heavy emphasis on the camera and it doesn't even have OIS.

I think the HTC 10 might be a better bet. Let's wait and see this time next week.

Same here. I am waiting to see what the HTC 10 has to offer, it will then be a battle to choose P9 Plus, S7 edge or the HTC 10. For me it will come down to pricing mainly, but the P9 PLUS is winning for me so far

P9 if preordered in France off the Huawei site is €549 including a 128gig microsd card.

P9 plus - no news yet.

Vodafone in the UK have a great offer for the P9 pre order HERE.

Ii would be great if I could set up an account from Ireland using my UK Debit Card!

I saw that. But you'd have to go on a monthly plan so that put me off. But now I'm thinking you're saying that you simply sign up and don't use the service?

Still better to hold out for the P9 plus I think. Ir blaster, bigger screen, super amoled vs ips, bigger battery with quick charge unlike P9...

I am out of contract on HRE here in Ireland, so I could get an S6 free on upgrade and then sell that to help finance the vodafone UK option. I do like the look of that "free" watch! But I also agree that the P9 plus would be the better phone for me.
Does anyone know if you can take up a UK contract just with a UK debit card and DPD Parcel wizard or a friends uk address?
    A long shot i know!

You're in danger of letting the watch (and I agree it's nice) overwhelm your better judged opinion on getting the better phone! Good things come to those who wait!

What are Huawei like with software upgrades? Would you get Android N and the one after that?
    Never had one before.

    Very slow with updates.
Little to zero 3rd party development as well.
No doubt you would get N but going on previous, you could be waiting. Wouldn't be 100% on O!

Picked up a P9 on VDF upgrade last week. Happy enough so far. Getting a full day out of the battery and love the picture quality from the dual camera. Interesting enough the sales guy mentioned that Huawei offer a 3 year warranty and 3 month screen replacement from date of purchase if you register via an app. Overall pretty happy so far...

Amazon Germany now over 800 for some reason. Anyway , price has settled at 699 on Amazon France, Spain and Italy.

My dilemma is whether to wait for Vodafone and see what/when they offer...

Orange in Spain are doing the P9 plus for €649 with a free Huawei Smartwatch. That would be sweet if offered here.

Meteor have the P9 for free on certain tariffs picking one up next week myself ,
only last week they were €250 on bill pay

Ok I have bitten the bullet and purchased the P9 Plus international dual sim version (about €630) and awaiting delivery from Wonda mobile. That's about same price as normal single sim version from Amazon at moment.
Only available in gold so hoping it doesn't look too tacky! But thought dial sim could be handy.

Mixed reviews. But beware anyway...that's the AL10 Chinese version which requires a little work to get Google play etc . Also NO NFC. Also
no "pressure push" function unless getting 128gb version.

Got the P9 at the weekend with Eir (reception is miles ahead of what Three were managing btw). This is my first non-HTC phone in about 8/9 years and it's great. Style wise it looks great, the screen is sharp and has great vibrant colours. The fingerprint sensor on the back is so handy. A big selling point was the camera and so far it's not disappointing. The external speaker is decent, not as good as HTC but it's fine. I don't really have anything negative to say about the P9, great phone.

Oh actually, one minor annoyance. To get to the quick settings, I'm normally used to just swiping down from the top and there they are. On the P9 swiping down gives you two tabs (notifications tab and quick settings tab). The notifications tab is displayed first so you have to swipe left to bring up the quick settings.

    Im still considering a p9.
Have an upgrade sitting waiting and the loyalteam offered me the free p9 or an s6 edge free if I go for another 24 months on meteor.

Cant seem to decide.edge is older and slower and ive been using a p8 for over a year now....actually closer to 2.
One of the best phones I owned but is the p9 a decent upgrade???

    Anyone upgrade from a p8 to a p9?

Any news on the P9 Plus does anyone know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,916 ✭✭✭podgeandrodge

Got my L29 (international dual sim) version of the P9 Plus.

Very happy with this. Currently running it on a Vodafone sim and a Lycamobile sim (more to test it out than having a current need).

So the Lycamobile sim (20gig limit) is set to 3G for data and the Vodafone set to 2G calls. Works very well, though Lyca is a little slow despite a H+ 3G signal.

The sound out of this phone (using Spotify) is fantastic.

    Any questions let me know.

Paid €630 for this dual sim version from Hong Kong, so about same as European version but I think the dual sim will come in handy.
You can see the two phone signal bars in the picture attached.

Other than coming to Ireland via the post, it isn't being carried by any operators as of yet. Vodafone have said they won't do it.

Went in to Vodafone and they said they had €100 off the P9 so got it on the €40 contract and €50 up front! Happy with it so far. Now to find a case!

I did the same but on Meteor. Also looking for a case... plenty of good ones on Amazon it seems.

It's a lovely phone to use but still getting to grips with it. I'd recommend using Google Now Launcher and the Google keyboard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,974 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

I've ordered a case from Spigen. I had one for my m8 and it was very good. I don't like the flip style cases.

I'm gonna give EMUI a chance and if I don't get to grips with it then I'll try Google Now!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,974 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

I tried Google Now and Nova and went with Nova. It's set up pretty much exactly how I want it now.

Read an online review which was very complimentary about the P9 but had one major concern. It said battery life was dreadful when connected to 4G.
Anyone here know if this is the case? I've a Sony Z3 at the moment and looking to upgrade soon and I'm pretty much always connected to 4G. Rarely use WiFi. No point in getting the phone if the battery won't last even a day on 4G.

I have the P9 Plus which has a slightly larger batter (3400mAH vs 3000). Using it on 4G I'm getting well into a second day with regular browsing but I guess it's down to how much you're using it.

Haven't noticed any issues with mine battery wise when on 4 g for long periods

Also interested in getting the P9 plus! How are you finding it so far and what were Wonda Mobile like to deal with? Did it take long to arrive after ordering and was the box sealed with proper Uk/Irish charger?

Love it. Fast charge is excellent. Fingerprint scanner is very responsive. Have been using the IR remote control which is also excellent.

Wonda were grand, I was a little worried about ordering from them but it all worked out. Took 2 weeks though - seemed to come from Hong Kong to the UK, back to France and then to Ireland!

Box perfect - UK charger, sealed etc.

Cheers, thanks for reply!! I've been debating whether to just get the P9 sim free from 3 or just go for it and wait longer and order the P9 Plus online! I do prefer bigger screens as using an iPhone 6 Plus at the moment and had a Note 4 before that and not forgetting the other extras the Plus has over the normal P9! Same as you, bit dubious about ordering from Wonda but from looking online they seem to get decent reviews!!

Go for the plus. I've had both in my hands together and the plus is so much better. Also the plus has the extra gig of ram. If you're buying off Wonda make sure you know which plus model you are getting. The L29 I got is the dual sim international. There is another variant that doesn't have NFC or Ir remote.

On Wonda, I had engaged in emails about delivery times and prices and they were good responders. Only risk I guess is that it's messier if you have a problem with the phone trying to get it back to them etc...They do have tracking so you can see how slowly your phone is getting to you!

Couldn't resist it, just ordered the Plus there about half an hour ago from Wonda!! Yea, ordered the VIE-L29 dual sim version! Hopefully mine won't take quite as roundabout trip as yours to get here as going on holidays on 4th Aug so it's cutting it close as to whether it'll arrive before I go!!

Not on P9 plus. I did notice that the videos are in the camera folder and also in the "camera video" folder. They play for me from either folder.

Can't get them to play at unless I use Es file explorer ,
Kinda odd took some vidoes of the airshow yesterday and can't play them unless I use another app .

I'll give Huawei a shout and see if they have a solution

you could download vlc player and use that as the default, then things should play regardless of where you load them from.

    Good news:

    http://www.xda-developers.com/android-nougat-beta-build-for-the-huawei-p9-and-mate-8-is-available-get-it-now/
Android Nougat’s fifth developer preview was recently released for Nexus devices, but for the past few months owners of any other non-Google devices have been waiting to get a chance to taste some of that sweet Nougat. We’ve known that OEMs have been internally testing Nougat releases for their devices (after all, Google shares their work with their partners to ensure timely updates for all) and it seems that Huawei is no exception. Today, an OTA link that updates the Huawei P9 and the Mate 8 to a beta build of Android 7.0 Nougat has been captured that includes the updated EMUI 5.0 skin.

I have the P9 for two weeks now and it's a beautiful phone. I put Nova Launcher on it coz I wanted an app drawer and I'm very happy. I have only one issue and that's with the speaker being on the bottom. i'm coming from an M8 with the dual speakers which was brilliant for me as I'm slightly hard of hearing. Other than that, I'm very happy.

Yeah it's fine! Doesn't add a whole load of bulk or weight but I feel far more confident when holding the phone now as it's rubbery.

I have an issue with the phone. My timer is stuck!! It won't budge even though I've shut down the phone and I've force closed the app.
