World T20 kicked off today, (well the ridiculous qualifying stage did) 2 close games both won by 14 runs. Zimbabwe beating Hong Kong thanks to Sibanda's 59 and Chigumbura's quick 30 off 13.

In the second game Afghanistan beat Scotland despite the Scot's excellent opening stand of 84 in 8.4 overs. Scotland just seemed to fall away after that and now they'll have a very tough task in qualifying to the main stage.

Ireland's first game at 2pm tomorrow v Oman :) should be a win to start the tournament off but Oman did beat Scotland last week so will have to be wary. Before that at 9.30am its Netherlands v Bangladesh.

Unfortunately it's going to be tough to get out of this group, but you never know in a T20...

Possible team - Porterfield, Stirling, Niall, Andrew Poynter, Gary, Balbirnie, Kevin, McBrine/Dockrell, Sorenson, Murtagh, Rankin.

Sorenson ahead of Young due to this late hitting ability. Maybe play both spinners and drop one of Balbirnie/Poynter?

    COYBIG!!

Bangla by 8 runs over Ned.

    Over to Ireland now

Oman bowl the first maiden over of the tournament in the first over of the match so not the best start but a good second over of 12 for Ireland gets them back on track.

They are flying at the moment anyway, 46/0

    What a catch on Stirling!!

Stirling gone for 29 off 22 to a terrific catch in the covers, 48 for 1 off 6.3

I suppose we'd need to be getting a move on.

Getting bogged down by these spinners at the moment.

What's Oman batting like, anyone know?

Singh and Masqood apparently strong batters

Bit worried that Ireland only have one spinner in there lineup with the success of the spin on this pitch today.

    NOB gone

Ansari's bowling action looks dodgy. Maybe it's unusual but within the rules.

Slinger, is that what they call it?

I am not convinced by this total so far, last over needs to be a big one

    So far its not...

    154 to finish.

It's a ok score, they need to bowl and field well now.

Solid score, lost wickets at key times when we could have really pushed on though. Few too many dot balls as well. Oman can reach 155 if our bowlers perform below average

Hm, it's par, that's about all you can say

Yep too many dot balls. And a few full toss hip level shots that should have been smashed for six we only got a single off plus a maiden over to begin with could have been a lot more comfortable. I still think we should win. Need to focus now

Strange innings but I think we should have enough. Is there a case for if we get to 50 odd for no loss again that KO'B should go in at 3? Especially if Sterling gets out Porterfield, Wilson and NO'B arent going to take the game away from the likes of Bangladesh.

    Shocking start

Not looking so good.... but can Oman keep their nerve?

Ireland starting to steady the ship in the sixth over, but still can't take victory for granted!

  • Registered Users Posts: 784 ✭✭✭kirk buttercup

Agreed need to slow these two down hopefully get a few wickets and further down the batting order they are a lot weaker

    Oman looking comfortable
Ireland's enery and enthusiasm seems to be lacking

Leaving George Dockrell out is looking like a poor decision.

    Need wickets urgently.
