Just walked by one of the big Budweiser posters. Id say whoever in the marketing dept pushed for them to get into MMA has had a bad few weeks. "Don't worry, he will will defo beat Diaz and the campaign will be perfectly timed" - Uh Oh. "MMA is completely safe, it looks worse than it is" - oh dear. "Anyway, whatever happens, this guy is going to be around for a long time". Clear your desk and get out!

Conor has been sponsored by Budweiser for over a year now, they were eventually gonna use him in a campaign.

All they will be looking at is metrics and the pulling power his name has, which to be fair has probably increased since 'retirement'.

    Next ad is gonna be:

"When I retire, I make sure it's with an ice cold bud light"

Sorry, I should have said "pushed for them to launch the campaign", obviously they have been in MMA for long time, not a day goes by without cowboy tweeting pics of bud bottles

So Dana White says that he just didn't want to turn up to the promo.
He then said that "for some reason Conor just did not want to fight on this card"...
    Mmmmm.....

    From the FS1 show

herd - do you believe Conor is retired?
    DW - I do not
H - do you believe Conor will fight in the UFC in the next year
    DW - YES

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 796 ✭✭✭Deadst4r

Dana saying if Conor called him after this interview, he would put him back on the card.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,081 ✭✭✭Fromvert

He's not saying anything too interesting. Says he thinks Conor will fight again in the next year. He needs to clear up his 'retirement' or he'll have to take his belt. Respects Conor, not about money etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,405 ✭✭✭Lukker-

Dana saying it was absolutely nothing to do with money, purely to do with him not wanting to do promotional activity.

He's saying Conor needs to say if he is or isnt retiring or he'll be stripped of the FW belt.

Dana saying he's not mad about, still likes Conor and it doesn't damage the card too much.

Dana said if he calls him right after he can still be on the card, but he needs to the promotion. UFC have spent 10m on promotion for UFC 200 that is already in motion. Dana talked to his manager and Conor wanted to move the promotional activity to May.

He says he does give Conor some leeway bacause Conor delivers but he didn't deliver this weekend so he had to pull him.

Summary pretty much of Dana on The Herd:

Gave same story pretty much gave to ESPN

Emphasized everyone has to promote his fights

Pressed that he has to deal with "Divas"

Says relationship with Conor not Damaged

Conor gets paid when he fights

Conor likes money so this is weird

It wasn't a money issue, Conor happy with money he makes

    Doesn't believe he is retired

Believes Conor will fight this year (laughed when saying, yes)

Says he's not mad even a little bit

Conor made the choice not to fight on this card

If he called after interview they'd put him on card

10m dollars money in motion for UFC200 promotion ya can't mess around with that.

Conor management wanted to move to May for doing promo stuff.

Only happened 1 time before Nick Diaz not showing up for promotional work and he was pulled too.

Is it as simple as Conor holding UFC to ransom of sorts, to get a bigger payday?
Something definitely seems fishy about the whole thing

    Can't see Conor ringing anyone

    Some quotes:

"It never got argumentative. Not once. I was talking to his (Conor's) manager and not once did it get argumentative".

"People like to say I cosy up to Conor and stuff like that and that Conor can do what he wants. But he can't"

"We certainly give lots of leeway to Conor because he delivers. He wasn't going to deliver this weekend so I had to pull him"

Reading those comments it kind of looks like he just didn't want to fight Diaz again

Edit: If he doesn't get in contact

The thing is, he wants to concentrate on his camp and doesn't want to go to New York, Stockton etc.

UFC are going to hold him to those things whether he calls or not I reckon.

If Dana is saying it as it is, which we can never be sure of, but if it is true it would appear that Conor just wanted to back out of fighting Diaz again. Maybe he realises after seeing that fight in Dublin, that welterweight is just way out of his league. So now he will take his time cutting weight to get back to 145 or 155.

The ball is firmly in Conor's court now, I wonder when we can expect a response from him to justify why he didn't want to go to Vegas.

Jesus even when people are given straight forward comments they still have conspiracies. Maybe just maybe for once he wanted to focus on his camp. Maybe just maybe he's not scared. He asked for the bloody fight remember? Maybe he wants to get a few weeks of camp in before press. Jesus people love a conspiracy

    My exact thoughts!

Do people believe Conor demanded the rematch, was 'obsessed' (Per Dana White) and basically forced the UFC's hand in giving him the headline of UFC 200 for a fight they weren't even keen on booking, then woke up yesterday and thought '****, maybe I can't beat him.' ? Sincere question.

In order to build up the amount of cardio required to beat Nate Diaz over 5 rounds at 170lbs, 12 weeks probably isn't even enough time. Going to Stockton, New York etc. would leave him with even less time.

I personally think he realises the amount of work he has to do in order to beat Diaz with point scoring (because he probably can't knock him out) and wants to put 100% into this camp, no distractions and tried to force Dana to let him pass on this media tour.

McGregor has to come out and give a valid reason for this behaviour.
Still think Dana White is not saying everything.
