What currency are you dealing in?

He's worth about $10m now after 8 years of being a pro.

When you see him posting pics of his cars etc you can tell he's not making as much as you think he is.

Maria Sharapova won 21m £ last year alone.

There's footballers in china and america that make 10m a year and they don't get smashed in the head for it.

He got over 10m dollars for his fight with Diaz from ppv share alone, his net worth is only going to go up massively, he's still the biggest draw in the ufc by a mile. Your right there are better ways to get the money 100% but I wouldn't say no to it myself, it bears working in an office 5 days a week.

Fabulous article by Malachy Clerkin in the indo about how mcgregors fans are the whiniest and touchiest around. He makes valid points.

Writes a whiny article whining about whiners. Ok....

The anti McGregor fan boys are as bad if not worse then the McGregor fan boys.

Talk about having a chip on their shoulder about someone having a chip on their shoulder.

Clerkin is a pretty level headed guy and not someone to write something for clickbait or the troll factor and I also think he's right.

The headline alone is clickbait. The article has nothing to do with McGregor fans. It's MMA fans he's talking about. He just used McGregor's name for clicks.

another good piece of journalism here. interesting slant on it. no doubt people will move to discredit the author rather than debate the points raised.

How about you give your opinions on the articles so and we can discuss. By the way the second article has already been discussed on here.

I bought a paper for the first time in years yesterday, The Sunday People I think it was. Big headline "MAN KILLED WITH 1 PUNCH" and a picture of Conor beside the headline.. Few pages in and another headline "MASS BRAWL AT GAA MATCH" and a picture of Conor beside it too..

Your standards for journalism are extremely low, not quite as low as your trolling but still, very low.

Absolutely. Clickbait nonsense. There was absolutely no connection between the headline and the content of the article.

people seem to have an all encompassing view of what trolling is these days. basically if you disagree with the crowd, you are trolling. its kind of a passive aggressive, safety in numbers , inclusivity by agreed consensus style of bullying.

It's a terrible article and someone doing a first year journalism course would be embarrassed to hand that up. It doesn't have an introduction, a main body or an actual conclusion, just some quotes from a boxing journalist who doesn't try and hide his contempt for MMA.

Funnily enough everything he accuses the UFC of doing happens ten fold in boxing. Fighters picking and choosing fights that only suit themselves and manicured records that don't actually mean anything.

Look at the turnover of champions in the UFC, they have generally lasted less then 12 months. No one gets protected and if there is a better fighter then the current champion, he eventually will get his shot. It's the one organisation and there is nowhere to hide.

He says that the UFC had a lot to do with the unmarketable Brazillian champions were pushed out the door for more marketable English speaking fighters. I would say the introduction of USADA drug testing had a lot more to do with it.

Why post in an MMA forum if you clearly aren't a fan?

It's actually a compliment. I can tell you're relatively intelligent and a relatively intelligent person would a) not think that article was written well and b) would not agree with its opinion. Therefore I'm assuming you are deliberately posting in order to get an inflammatory response.

So if there was bullying going on here, would that make you a victim or a martyr?

Cop on mate. Stevie wonder could see what you're at.

I don't know Easy Rod, my IQ has definitely dropped since reading some of these articles. :)

Why do people link to balls.ie, joe.ie, punditarena etc etc?

They're just clickbait - write a ****ty article about a photo - no talent journalism (that's being kind) sites.

TBF its not like traditional media/journalism is much different these days e.g. the Independent

Everything from websites to newspaper and TV is clickbait or over exaggeration or hot takes to boost clicks and views.

Very seldom have I seen any link to Joe.ie or Balls.ie in this forum.. This clickbait thing is nonsense. Every article or write up you see online is clickbait, some are just better than others

I disagree. Click bait is a vague sensationalst headline to attract clicks, I think the majority of the time people don't even read the articles.

    Very different to actual journalism.

There is a notable difference between the print editions and the websites of the Indo, Examiner, and to a degree the IT.

Stuff that might be headlining the Indo website for example might only be on page 5 of the print edition and some of the sub headings, or smaller stories, would only make page 8, 9, 10 etc.

Clerkin in his link to his story in the IT, the one about MMA fans being whiny, he called
UFC fans have already won the argument - so why are they so easily offended?

I think from listening to other journalists that when they submit an article they don't get to pick the headline, actually I think Cathal Pendred mentioned it as well recently. Now that I think of Pendred's article he was giving out about the click baiteyness of using Conor McGregor in every headline to which his article ended up with a click baitey Conor McGregor headline!!

not to mention clerkins numbers. he's a gold mine for the indo. he is bringing in serious numbers.said he'd write an article in less than 5000 words......and he did.delivers the goods. away from the paper he is down to earth though. don't mind the front.thats just to sell papers.
looked good in his x5 on the rock road last week.

    haters gonna hate.

You're right, I now suddenly think he's the best writer in the world and even if he didn't win his last award its cause the other writer writes more efficiently cause he's less verbose. In fact he could probably go up a level of journalism and write a clever think piece on Slovakian politics and beat the Slovakian journalists.

I preferred the other variation of the second one, its amazing Brazil has a population of xxx considering Brazilian mens propensity for pulling out, I saw ability also, and love of, depends on what fb page you see it on I guess.

The ones like Gamebred put up are so cringy its unreal, I genuinely feel sorry for some of them lads.
