Yeah, motor replacement scheduled - whining/clicking noise on regeneration which the dealer, in conjunction with Hyundai, diagnosed as the motor.

Not unduly perturbed as these things happen - was just curious if anyone had ever heard of this before. Apparently it's an €8k part & takes a good day or more to replace so Hyundai made 100% sure before authorising this under warranty.

Tooth sheared on the reduction gear I reckon or possibly a bearing.
191 Ioniq by the way with 30,000km.

Its somewhat reassuring it happened in a 191 and not an older one. Since it happened in a 191 its likely a manufacturing defect to just your car and it just took a few months to grind itself down and not a general issue likely to happen others, imo.

Good learning experience for that dealer!

Ahh yes good old throwaway society, let's chuck out the entire motor/"gearbox" for the want of a couple of bearings, makes my blood boil.
Hopefully it makes its way back to Hyundai for refurb.

You can be sure they'll want to see it. Its an €8k part, they'll want to know why!

Its probably an all in one unit. For a 191 I'd rather the entire thing changed rather than the bearings changed and then find a few years down the road that there is premature wear in some other element of the unit which has just taken longer to manifest.... send it back and get a new one.

I've probably read everything ever written about the Ioniq at this stage and I haven't heard anything about a motor being replaced. At the end of the day though, it's still a car, and things break occasionally, but that's what the 5 year warranty is for.
Is it not 8 years on battery/drivetrain

Yep, it is, sorry. 5 years for everything else.

I probably would have done it myself if I had a white Ioniq and it is a very long time ago that I was under 30 :pac:

Yup. New number plate surround is on the to do list. It's horrifically OTT by Bolands
Saving pealing the AA sticker off for a special occasion.

A bit of universal solvent on a rag gets the silver stuff off and leaves just a black surround. Looks much better.

Not mine, but I said I would put it here for those looking:

20,800 for 171 in Dublin. 21,000 miles so may be UK import.

Pretty sure that car is a boardsie as I saw thos pics on here before. Actually think that colour looks great with the black wrap. Rare colour too.

Shocking poor ad but fantastic value. Add in another few hundred to get the front wrap done again though, as it looks to be peeling in the pictures.

There's a boardsie with that username alright.

Think he might even be on the owners list.

Pretty much selling it for what he bought it for. £18500 in March 2018 was about €20500. Twas a bargain when he bought it, and still a bargain now.

    75 k km service today- battery 100%

Video of underside of car at this link https://app.quik.auto/j/f0ff7947

    All looking great

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,480 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

I hate to break it to you but your battery is not at 100% after 75k km. Li Ion doesnt work like that.

They've either hidden excess top capacity and release it slowly to match initial deg, or the calculation is wrong.
You should have 2-7% deg by now

Did someone mention on here recently that it's possible to precondition the car without charging it? It doesn't seem like that's actually the case, or if it is it's not very clear from the menus how you go about doing it.

    Without charging, yes
    Without plugging in, no

If you set the charge timer to start at 630pm and end at say 7pm, but you get home at 730pm and leave the car plugged in overnight, it won't charge, but then set the climate timer to depart at 730 it will preheat the car.

Yeah I know you have to be plugged in alright. I don't really follow what you're saying there in relation to the different menus. When you say charge timer do you mean the off peak hours or the departure time in the charging/climate menu?

I had thoughtthe check boxes for each day were to enable charging on a particular day so I set climate to on, depart time of 8am and only ticked tuesday and thursday. I had expected this to precondition the car every morning for 8 but only charge on tuesday and thursday morning but the check boxes next to the days seem to indicate the days you want the car preconditioned going by this morning as the car had charged but not preconditioned.
