Trying to set one up as a gift for a mate. I have Retropie installed and copied over some GBA, NES and SNES ROMS but only 20 of the GBA roms showed up and none of them play. Will have to get stuck in and go investigating tonight.

You need a BIOS for the GBA games.

    This might help:

Also, when launching a game, I think you can configure / change the Emulator (going from memory a "press any key" window pops up).

    Might help!

Cheers. Yeah I went into the whole thing pretty blind and just followed a few guides to get Retropie installed in the first place. Having fun trying to work stuff out on it though.

I'm looking for a little advice now myself.

The SD card for retropie, when loading it onto the Pi, creates a partition. I think Partition 1 is 60MB.

I accidentally erased the contents of my SD card. The partition is there, and I have a backup of the retropie files.

Do I put these into the 60MB partition, or into the one with the remaining space left over?

Could be far easier starting from scratch with the backup image you have. As in format then write that to the sd and extend the partition in the RetroPie's settings.

I was thinking that alright. I might give it a go tonight. My computer has no SD card reader, and my laptop is running Ubuntu, so it might be a challenge to get it done!

Can you get an external reader or use your phone as one? (I've never tried this so I can't vouch for it working!)

Also, I think Debian builds have a built-in usb formatter / writer.

In the search box, type 'usb' or 'image' and there should be a program listed to do it. Failing that unetbootin will work too!

I installed OSMC with Kodi on my new Pi lastnight and was planning on putting retropi on aswell but ran out of time. Can I install Retropi on top of the OSMC build or is it better to use to start with Raspbian and add Kodi, retropi, etc.

Also, I have a NAS box on the network, can the Pi be set to boot from this?

Thought so too, I used PM for handiness which probably cost the same. I had a similar question to yours answered with links in this thread, have a look back a few days.

    Edit, here they are:

I get most of my Pi stuff from Pimoroni. You might find it a Euro cheaper elsewhere, but they have always been good for me.

Got mine off Amazon & The Pi Hut.

    I've a pi2 running MotionEyesOS.

And a pi3 running retropie/kodi. Very handy that the 360/ps3 controllers are plug-and-play (well, I had to enable the ps3 driver in the retropie setup... but got the bluetooth working on it!)

Has anyone here tried to run Amibian on the Raspberry Pi 3? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHFcM8Ka3Sg I'm having trouble getting anything to work on mine even though I followed the instructions. I've had Amiga Forever on the computer for a couple of years and have never had any particular trouble with that. The same games just won't run on the Raspberry Pi.

So the game rom or adf file wont load when the insert disk screen is on?

They just freeze or don't load. I've used both the official Amiga Forever Roms (including the. key file) and other ones I've had for years.

Is the .key file the kickstart rom?

What's involved in getting this running?
Just get roms and stick it on it?

Need to put retropie on it too but after that's done is it pretty easy?

EDIT: Well i have just bought the above, guess ill find out the hard way :D

    Got mine setup recently.
    Just the PI itself.
It took me the best part of an evening to get it to boot up lol.
Another day to figure out how to change settings in it.
Another good while to find those " things" For MAME that make it work.

I Could be a long time to get it up to a good standard with all games working correctly and looking and sounding good, with the end goal of building an arcade cab for it.

I don't really have the time to stay at it tho , just have one or 2 hours a week, so trying to figure out how to put a different front end on it, all pictures and info for games is gonna take a good while for me lol.

Or is there an easier option like a file somewhere on the internet with a whole working setup for it that can be got?
If anybody knows can they hit me a pm thanks.

There are loads of people selling reloaded cards on Ebay (illegally mind you), but the bigger problem is that you've no clue how any of it works so when it breaks or you want to change anything then you're screwed.

You're much better off investing the time watching the tutorials, reading the various forums etc and figuring it out yourself so when it goes wrong (and it probably will) then you can sort it out.

There's noting tricky hard about setting up a RP for Retropie, but it can be infuriating at times.
There are SD card images on torrent sites out there that would suit your needs but we can't link to them.
And, as the great Bandit says, if something isn't working you'll have no skills learned to fix it.
Give yourself a week and you'll have the thing done, setting up the controller can be the trickiest thing, the rest just refining little bird along the way.

I have the latest raspberry pi since launch. I haven't even turned it on!!

Seeing this thread has reignited my initial craving for one.

Tonight, I will turn it on!!

.... the countless questions will follow. Lol

I've done this very recently. Breakdown of costs:

    pre-cut 12mm MDF kit: 80 (ebay)
    Plexi glass: 50 (b&q)
Pi 3 (had spare sd card): 40
    WiFi dongle: 10
    Dell 19" 5:4 monitor: 45 (adverts.ie)
2 x buffalo SNES pads (because you know..4 player bomberman): 50 (amazon)
    Joystick set: 50 (ultracabs)
    Star wars decals: 40 (
Sundry (screws, paint, usb extension cables, chrome trim etc...) 40
Total: too much :pac: (not including the IKEA island I bought to stand this thing in my kitchen)

I had some LED's from ikea lying around and some old usb speakers so no cost there - whoop!

went way over budget but very happy with the result :D
