How the hell are this MGM boxing crowd allowed to operate? I mean does anyone actually believe Matt Macklin is behind it all with some benevolent mr.moneybags doing it for the good of the sport?

I'd imagine their "profits" make interesting reading.

Seems to be a very laissez faire approach by the fighters aswell to being involved with these guys. They might not be the sharpest tools in the shed but surely they know its not all above board?

Excuse the pun but pro boxing is extremely ropey, and the fighters (and alot of the fans by the looks of it) seem to be apologists for it and don't really give a damn.

    What do you suggest?
Load up on Ak47s and go sort it?
Or should he hire the Expendables?

How about hiring a decent sized police force and equipping it properly with cars knowledgeably and manpower ?

Like the rest of the world ? The time of having a village policeman style police service passed in the 80s

Well he is ment to be the man in charge isnt he ?

He is the one who signed off at the end of the day on the systemic destruction of the nations justice system and took no positive steps to fix the massive problem that now exists

He is the leader of the government isnt he ?

All this stuff didnt happen on its own you know.

How about blaming the coke buyers - all the RTE heads and the music heads that put large wads of money into the pockets of these gangs - do they bear any blame for the deaths?

All decent people stand with them?

Sure they are, behind closed doors and heads down.
The dangers they face, no Joe public will stand beside them with their name showing!

as leader of the nation what has enda done to ensure the safety of the population ?

He retained the SCC (and added a new one) when others were calling for it to be scrapped.

And where was the money to come from for this at a time when the country was on its knees?

A moratorium or decrease on politicians wages/pensions. An end to unvouched expenses. Forcing multi-nationals to pay tax at the correct low rate that they are liable to pay. Not paying private debts from the public purse. To name but a few.

I honestly don't believe that throwing lots of money and resources into our services is the simple answer to our problems. You could equip our hospitals with another 5,000 beds or put another 5,000 guards into An Garda Siochana but the result could just mean that there are lots more beds and guards unavailable. Problems and issues are much deeper. Yes resources are needed but so is a major shake up. Many rural Garda stations that were closed are no more closed now than they were when they were open. However, I do believe that the time of the village policeman is still required and very vital in communities.

You give them more credit than they are due.
Gilligan didn't think they would be caught for it, just as the latest scumlords would think.
    Hope I'm wrong!

the SCC was around long before the mayo school teacher arrived in power and god willing it will be around long after he is gone.

The "new" one is yet to start operating.

Who is going to bring people before these courts when there is no police to do it.

Agree with you there. Surprised when all the politicians, particularly the Minister for Justice, didn't make an opportune statement of this sentiment over the last few days. They were all too interested in verbally sparring with each other and scoring brownie points in advance of the elections to make sensible comments. I am not pointing at RTE and Music Heads here but I get your drift. It's comical when you read some of the ridiculous remarks some posters make on boards about the merits of drug taking and then look at gangland crime.

VIllage police may be required in villages in rural areas . As in exactly the ones that were closed by enda

Having the village police man type of approach ie softly softy" aw come n now lads " walking around in ridiculously appropriate uniform with a silly hat and a asp baton and weakest possible strength tiny pepper spray can and driving cheap small engine Korean cars and political motivated leadership, thats the time i ws referring to being gone

Just heard on the news that the gardai have informed a number of reporters at INM , That their lives are in danger from a two criminal gangs in Dublin. I'd be shítting it if I was the one that took the photo that identified the suspects.

According to the AGSI guy on the radio the other day there are going to be 600 new police this year and 750 are going to retire or resign.

Add that to the shutting down of GNDU and OCU and replacing them with smaller less resourced group .

Ah I have to disagree with you there.
While there is a need for high powered vehicles, rapid response police, armed response units, there will always be a need for the ' village policeman'

A good policeman knows his area, he knows his community and he is trusted by them. He knows what goes on and who does what.

A 'village policeman' is exactly what the gardai have lost and they need to get it back.

Jeff, I sense you are a lot younger than me. Your depiction of a village policeman is at best one dimensional. You said 'village policeman'. I wasn't placing them in any particular village, area or local community. Yes of course there are other requirements to a police force but local knowledge and local interaction in any community is a very valuable thing.

Well these days are very different than when veronica was murdered in 1996, these guy's don't give a toss and may make a terrible example of someone and their family to take the heat off. Hopefully not.

Edit: just realised that was twenty years ago.......

    Agreed.
Martin Cahill famously called it! "Wait till you see what's coming after me" - paraphrasing btw.

That was Larry Dunne, one of the original and bestest (or worstest) of the drug lords we ever bred.
