There really isn't a lot of anti-social behaviour in the area. In three years living here I've never once felt intimidated and that includes a year on maternity leave walking the area for an hour every day.

The area has 6000+ people. It has the same population as somewhere like Ballinasloe or Fermoy. There will obviously be the odd broken window, bike theft etc. but to characterise that as lots of anti social behaviour is nonsensical. Reading Facebook groups focused on reporting crime will give you a very skewed perspective. RCP/Ashtown/Rathborne is a normal quiet Dublin suburb with young professionals and families.

The Broombridge area is a kilometre from Royal canal park, currently under utilised with development plans in place. Even with its horrific reputation the actual level of trouble there is quite low. Maybe once a year there's an incident like this.

I agree, before I moved to RCP I lived in Rathbourne Village near Ashtown train station for years. I did hear the odd story about bike thefts etc but I never noticed significant anti social behavior in all my time in the area. If you focus on the Facebook page you would think it was a lot worse that it really is.

For anyone interested, the RCP development is in the Ashtown A electoral district of Dublin West. It is located in the North West Area of Dublin City Council for local authorities. Link to DCC website on local area managers is here...

Guys. Might be worth considering taking this conversation (i.e anti social behaviour and more precisely fear of it developing above and beyond what would be considered normal) off line or to another private online forum. Lets remember this forum is open to the public and will be available for consumption long after we have settled in to our new homes. One day we may want to sell up and move on so lets not shoot ourselves in the foot so to speak! Cheers

Ah here, better to discuss openly then pretend these things don't exist. There's been some great advice posted as a result of this discussion.

Aside from modernisation of RCP-Broombridge canal walk, did anyone contact our management company about increasing the security at this end of the development?

It may be worth letting them know about the recent events, at least not to let spreading vadalism (or even the fire) into the development.

Back in December 2016, they were also going to put additional cameras and the second security office where the new houses are built. I'd like to know the update on this too.

We seem to have a situation along the path along the canal to Broombridge. As I was running to work this morning, I noticed that the concrete barriers separating the path and a seemingly abandoned yard in the industrial park were broken down. There were several fires burning in the yard, and the remnants of several fires were visible along the path (the largest, with the remains of several tyres, by Broom Bridge). Between Broom Bridge and Lock 7 were several more tyres and at Lock 7 an industrial-sized recycling bin floating in the canal. When I was running back in the afternoon, wooden planking also separating the yard from the path was on fire.

I reported this to DCC. I have two major concerns here. The immediate one is that we have a person or multiple people setting stuff on fire, very close to our homes. The longer term concern is about security. The yard seems to be unmonitored, and could easily serve as a staging area for more antisocial behavior in the neighborhood. In particular, in winter when Luas is in operation and people will use the path in the darkness, people could easily get attacked from there. Fixing this will not be trivial, so DCC or the property owner should start looking at fencing the yard over again in the short term, and providing a safer path by the time Luas starts operating.

From what I read on this thread and Rathborne Residents Forum, it seems there is recently a group of teenagers in the area RCP-Broombridge canal walk doing some mess and apparently, whoever saw their acts, it's best to report it to the Community Gardai in Cabra, direct line 666-74-20 (garda Ciara). The more facts they have the better, they communicate with the local groups and can send additional patrols if needed. To avoid retaliation, it's best to give an anonymous report without disclosing your personal data, in particular your name and area of living.

So we need to start lobbyinig politicians, that is the only way we will get anything done. I have the email addresses of all the relevant TD's and councilors for our area. We are now in the Castleknock constituency so Leo Varadkar is our FG representative. I was invloved recently in the push to get planning permision for the prefabs in the new school and got a lot of responses from some very helpful people who are eager to help.

We could start with an email campaign, then perhaps gather signatures around the area. So there are obviously a number of thigs we'd like to improve:

    1) Modernise the tow path along the canal from RCP to Broombridge
    2) Increase Gardai numbers at Carba station
    3) Improve the river road
    4) Put in the train station at Pelletstown (personally I think this will create more problems than it sovles. Planning permission was granted. The residents rejected the Luas continuing up to there as far as I know.)

That would be my list of priorities however whilst there might be disagreement on 2, 3 and 4 I think we all want to tow path resolved as a priority?, it's the most realistic to get anything done about.

I can put a letter together over the next week or two, I'll post it up here for you all to improve upon and then we can all email the necessary parties. I will add it up to the Rathbourne facebook page also.

It would be worth contacting the Royal Canal Park community association also. They are on facebook too - https://www.facebook.com/Royal-Canal-Park-Community-Association-222708581089590/

    Hi All

Just to add to what Hollypink mentioned about the RCPCA . They meet once a month and always welcome new members. I only managed to go to one meeting myself but intend to get more involved. They they seem to be a well organised group and discuss all the matters people have brought up above. They meet in the community center close to the Romayos Im not sure of the day or time, but I guess the facebook page will help with that
Also I just wanted to add, in my opinion RCP is not an area which experiences high levels of anti-social behavior. I agree the area close to Broombridge certainly is a tip and attracts undesirables and bored teenagers with nothing to do during the summer, but adding in a train station to RCP I believe wont help solve that issue

    Hi

I was hoping someone could PM me a recommendation for someone to snag a heron. Looking for someone to do a really detailed job

    thanks

I have lived in an apartment in RCP for 5+ years and now in the new development for the past year. Anti social behavior is not common in my view.

I think its just a group of bored kids of a certain immature age with nothing better to do in the summer holidays.

We need everyone's help here who have moved into the area or intends to, The Department of Education wants to get rid of the local Educate Together school and put it in with the Cabra one. For me personally this is not acceptable for a number of reasons.

I am attaching two documents one is a letter that can be sent to politicians and the other is a list of politicians that it can be sent to,

If your child is not in the educate together school but you have enrolled them for the future then modify the letter accordingly.

I appreciate your help as it will take people power to stop this happening.

Get rid of the school? I thought this was a temporary measure for first class pupils until the prefabs were in place. The last update I got since this campaign bagan was that the prefabs would now be in by October. I never got the impression that it was a permanent solution?

Makes sense, I'll reach out to the community association before I go any further.

Do you know where the final site is?
Is it at the back of the middle bit per the development plan?

I don't I'm afraid. Only the DOE know and they are not forthcoming with this infomation due to commercial sensitivites. The school haven't been informed either.

    Hi
Can someone explain the educate together issue? Who is " they " , where is the proposed permanent site, where are the prefabs etc.

    Separately
We have noticed a big drop in water pressure from the pump. I think there might be airlocks in the system. Can anyone provide any information on how the pump works and who, if anyone , we should contact to maintain it. It's weird that when we turned off the pump both hot and cold pretty much stopped.

There have been a few requests for details of a good snagger and flooring person.

Please feel free to pm me and I'll send on details, I was lucky enough to happen upon a great snagger and a great flooring guy and am happy to share the details.

They is the department of education.

The prefabs are going on the existing site which is beside supervalu, ie where the school is now.

The site proposed in the local area plan is at the back of the vacant lot between rathborne and royal canal park.

    From my old post,

"The mains feed serves the kitchen cold tap and supplies the water tanks in the attic. No others. The pump pulls water from the tanks in attic and uses this to pressurise the water feed to all other taps hot and cold, and showers plus toilet water supply, utility room supply etc."

So it's not unusual that turning off the pump would have that effect.
I would be interested in what you find it is the problem.

Sorry I meant to ask if anyone in a Heron has a super king bed in their Master Bedroom If so was it hard to get up two flights of stairs?

I know this was asked earlier but didn't get much of a reply, did anyone manage to get a super king bed and mattress upstairs in a heron? was it difficult or possible to get it all up via the stairs? I appreciate the feedback. :)

We were able to put a super king size bed in the master bedroom. The bed frame was easy to put up as it was in a flatpack. The mattress was a real struggle. It took us around 20 minutes to put it upstairs as they don't bend and the space is limited. I would recommend you to get the super king mattresses that are two 3' zipped together.

Tonight? The mains stopped working last night for me and when I inquired this morning, I was told there had been damage to a pipe up at the building site. It had been repaired by the time I looked into it, and a couple of hours later, the pressure was back up to its usual level in the cold tap.
I'm in an apartment, by the way, not one of the new houses.

Can anyone advise what thickness the drywall/plasterboard/sheetrock is in the RCP houses?
Want to buy the correct anchors for hanging a few pictures/mirrors etc.

yes, i had the problem last night. This morning, the pressure is still low at the mains tap in the kitchen. And the pump is running non-stop trying to fill the tanks in the attic. Did you contact Irish Water or Ballymore?
