Do they release figures of what is bought outright versus what is bought on a PCP / HP plan? I know someone may have credit union / bank backing that would appear as an outright sale, but I'm curious if people are taking out finance.

No breakdown is provided on how people finance cars im afraid. Id say the share of PCP financed cars is growing rapidly as most brands offer a product now.

Lexus sales seem to have dropped a bit in the last few years.

Hyundai figures area really big, would they be pre reg's or actual sales? Tucson figures seem crazy, they are over half what Hyundai sold in total.

KIA is 7 years and Mitsubishi is 8.

KIA is 7 years and Mitsubishi is 8.

With 100/ 150k km restriction though?

5 year unlimited is better I reckon.

Fiat and Opel are offering 5 year unlimited too afaik.

I'd probably put Hyundai ahead of Opel ,Fiat and Mitsubishi in terms of look and quality though.

I was hoping to see the i8 in there somewhere.

I'm actually impressed to see Hyundai at the top there!

I saw a 161 Tucson yesterday in Howth and I was surprised to see that it came with Hankook tyres. Hankook tyres are great for the money but still, I would only count them as mid-range tyres.

I saw that the local Ford dealership has Michelins on all their car. Seems a little cheap on Hynundai's part but I guess the Hankooks are still much better then the standard ditchfinders you see in Ireland :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

Hyundais have been supplied new on a mix Hankooks and Kumho for at least a decade but probably since their inception.

I guess they are an indigenous supplier for Hyundai being fellow dog eaters :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,858 ✭✭✭Bigcheeze

Are Qashqai's still hard to get ? If so I'm guessing the lack of Qashqais is boosting the Tucson. Similar price and look.

Some suggest that pcp now accounts for over 60% of new car sales

honestly, i think the strangest statement was the one expressing disappointment that the list of top 10 selling new cars in Ireland this year was an array of Hyundais, Toyotas and Dacias as if any other outcome was in any way whatsoever likely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,479 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

To be fair the market the Tucson is in, price point, standard equipment along with the comprehensive warranty it offers makes it a very attractive package if your in the market for that type of car. The Qashqai dominated that spot for a number of years but seems to be getting knocked off it's perch now.

Also interesting to see that VW have dropped down the pecking order too, no doubt as a result of "dieselgate". Will be interesting to see will they rally back at the end of the month/quarter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

it's hardly a conclusive drop for VW though, only down by 1 place on the list but almost 200 more cars sold than last year, so a 17-ish % increase overall for them.

Is it delays with stock of Qashqai's that's the problem or just people went for the Tucson?

The new Skoda superb was launched in Sept and a 4 month waiting list. Don't know if there were any other models launched that might skewer the figures slightly.

    Yes.

First 2 years have unlimited mileage cover but subsequent years are limited to 200,000km.

Fiat also has first 2 years unlimited mileage cover but subsequent years are limited to 100,000km.

Opel's is just 2 year cover

Qasqai isn't good looking, and you get great extras for your money with the Tucson, gotta love the superman grill.

The new Sportage hits the roads in February, should move KIA up the table a bit.

It's a Renault. Yeah, given the choice of a Renault or a strain of VD, I'd go for the latter!

Yeah I had to google it. Looks okay actually, but why would you name it such a thing. Don't they spend millions on marketing and was that the best they could come up with.

It's no worse than qashqai, Passat, fiesta etc. If you heard those names fresh, you'd probably have a similar reaction.

What's the petrol/diesel split this year compared to this time last year? I think one of the reasons why Hyundai are top dog is because they tend to register everything at the start of the month and then as the months go on we'll see their true market share.

No, I think they got their stock right this year.

Each dealer in the country got at least 20 Tuscon to sell early doors, which has helped hugely as an example.

Compare that to the Skoda Superb which if you want one, in all probability you're waiting the bones of 4 months for it.

If you dont have it you can't sell it.

Well the looks are a matter of opinion. I think the new qashqai is a big improvement in looks over the old one.

Nissan being Japanese probably has slightly more up market brand image than Koreans.

I can only conclude that lead times are hurting the Nissan numbers as I can't see it being outsold 4 to 1.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,479 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

Tucson is 2 years younger than the current Qashqai plus the Qashqai gets expensive as you go up the range. Also the old ix35 was a good seller and I'm sure upgrading to the Tucson from an ix35 will be an automatic choice for a lot of owners. In saying that I'm sure the Qashqai will still have strong sales as the year progresses. I wouldn't think Nissan's image is hugely superior to Hyundai's either. Hyundai manage to sell a decent amount of conventional hatchbacks whereas Nissan struggle more.

2016 Tucson next door to me, quite the aggressive looking vehicle.
