Gaoth Laidir were the sustained winds over 64kts, or did it remain as a storm rather than a class 1 Hurricane ?

Sherkin Island stopped reporting right at the time of max winds so it's hard to say. Its last report at 10 am was 43 gust 64 knots. Roches Point reported 60-knot sustained, so just below F12. Fastnet Lighthouse out to sea reported sustained F12 but without that Sherkin Island info we can't tell if the F12 winds made it ashore. If not, it was damn close.

I was listening to 98FM this morning and there appeared to be some hysteria regarding if people should go to work or not because of the "hurricane".

Where do we get it. In the US they evacuate states when a Hurricane is incoming..here we don't know whether to go to work or not!

Off the coast of Cork a 10min mean of 81kts was recorded. Safe to say this was an unusual event.

Current 2min means at DUB struggling to stay over 20kts, wind has died alot there.

    Recorded by what or where?

Smurfjed, I'm sure we should have just carried on business as usual and pretend like we get this sort of weather all the time.

I'd like to point out the school in cork which lost the roof of its gym today, where if teenagers were in the path of it it would have certainly caused many fatalities.

While this isn't that big by Carribbean standards, (which may I add are ripped apart by these storms), it is most certainly the biggest storm in many years for many areas of the south of Ireland. Luckily in West Clare hot much damage was done, and winds didn't exceed the storm of 2014 (max gust was around 70kts compared to 79kts in 2014).

Listening to the feed are pilots about to decamp en masse from the stack?

Fastnet Lighthouse, about 55 metres above the sea, 6.5 km offshore.

Was on FR 7054 yesterday at 19:00, just about to line up on 16 when the wind exceeded the limits. The Captain was just about to head back to the stand when a "lull" occurred , she advised us that she was going for it! She hit the throttles and performed what I can only describe as the best take off that I have experienced in years.

To the Captain and Crew on FR 7054 DUB to AGP yesterday evening you put a smile on a grumpy ould gits face yesterday. Well done!

Amazing Captain, unfortunately Cpt.Comer won’t be with us much longer as she is leaving for pastures new. She will be missed

in my relatively short experience haven't seen a value reported that high, sounds even unbelievable at first, but looking at reported winds on the ground and forecast for the winds aloft, perfectly possible I guess.. strange conditions today.. if windy.com is anything to go by, looks like a trough is sitting right on west coast which would explain the occurrence

Was the Falcon 900 going eastbound or westbound ?

    West.....

Thanks, I was just interested in why he used Shannon, but with the winds against him, it probably made sense.

Some interesting notams for Dublin. I wonder what weather conditions they're talking about over such a long period? Just winter brooding?

its a period of winter when starling and other "short-haul" migratory birds reach their peak number in British Isles.. certain species, like starlings are full time residents in Ireland however through the winter they are joined by their Nordic siblings .. at least that's my understanding of it

    Strange METAR for Cork: EICK 102000Z 06008KT 1800 LIGHT RAIN FEW002 BKN007 BKN011 07/07 Q1003 TEMPO 3000

Why use LIGHT RAIN instead of the standard -RA?

That's some windshear at just 100 ft agl but it is noted that this can occur due to the large buildings west of the threshold of R24.

    Knock, Ireland
    Ireland West Airport Knock
    latitude: 53-54-37N, longitude: 008-49-05W, elevation: 203 m

Unless knock airport has packed itself up and moved down the road to Shannon but I sincerely doubt it.

As I said, I was being pedantic. The TAF was issued by the aviation team in Shannon, hence off the press from there.
