    Mafia III

Absolutely brilliant game, really enjoyed it. Admittedly I got bored of the game near the middle taking over each district but I decided to go back to it yesterday and played it for a few hours and got to really enjoy taking control of different areas. The stealth aspect was really good as well. Few missions stand out the amusement park, the boat and the casino and a few others as well. I would recommend it to anyone.

Adding: Batman: Arkham Knight [Main Story] (PS4)
There are three endings in total: The Main Story being the first, the 7 Most Wanted being the second and I think completing the game 100% is the true ending. I was going to wait until I finished the whole game but this is harmless.

Storywise you wouldn't necessarily need to play the previous games to get what happens - I finished Arkham City but never finished Asylum, and I was able to follow the plot fairly well. I was going to get the Return to Arkham bundle on PS4 but I forgot Skyrim came out so I bought that instead - maybe I'll pick them up in coming weeks.
I didn't particularly enjoy the batmobile segments as much as I thought. It's handy for getting to places but the tank sections annoyed me, especially since they take up a fair chunk of the story missions and they end up becoming a tad bit repetitive as a result.
That aside - it's a brilliant game. I'm not the biggest Batman fan in the world - I wouldn't know the backstory of a lot of the characters - but still a fan nonetheless and I think this is definitely a love letter to proper fans of the franchise.
Highly recommended game right there. In fact if you haven't played any of these games, aside from Arkham Origins they're all available on current-gen consoles and if you've been on the proverbial fence this long into the series, I think you're missing out.

    Fallout 4: Nuka World

I am officially finished Fallout 4 and all DLC. Have this DLC a long time just never got around to finishing it.
I done all the missions up until you select a area to one of the gangs. I used to have the quest open select flag for gang but never did. I done it for all areas but never select an area for the gang and moved on to the next. I then killed all the gang members. So I do not know what I missed out on by not selecting an area for a gang. I restored power to the park.

Overall Fallout 4 and all DLC was quite enjoyable.

Can add Worms Crazy Golf and Oxenfree to my finished list.

Worms Crazy Golf was actually quite fun. Takes the usual Worms game formula and adds golf to the mix. Simple yet satisfying.

Oxenfree is pretty good too. A story focused game about spooky goings on
where you can choose what to say in your conversations with the other characters. Certainly worth a go if you like story and conversation centric games.

    Batman: Arhkam Knight (PS4)
    Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (NDC) (PS4)
Saint Row IV Re-elected (Xbox One)
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (NDC) (PS4)

Bully AKA Canis Canem Edit (PS2 on PS4)
    Uncharted 3 (PS4)
    Quantum Break (Xbox One)
    Read Dead Redemption (Xbox 360)

    Adding:

Life is Strange (PS4) - This is the first story driven walking simulator game I have played apart from the short Gone Home. Very good game, really liked the story across the 5 episodes. I thought the final episode to be a bit of a let-down though, too much time bending and too many surreal sections. I felt my ending was a bit meh
I chose to save Arcadia Bay so essential the ending was not to change anything at all and allow Chloe be killed at the start of the game
. Overall though worth playing, best to play slowly and in small doses rather than trying to rush through it.

The main reason I haven't updated this in a while is that I'm playing Dark Souls. At the moment I think it is an absolute masterpiece and well worth all the hype, one of my favourite games ever at the moment. I'm about 60% through. Think I'm going to keep playing that but start playing Journey and Limbo which are short. That way I can reduce my backlog list.

Adding Battlefield 1, campaign anyway. It had the odd good moment, but standard enough shooter fare overall Imo. I don't see why it's getting such high praise, it's a 6/10 at best.

    human blob
sequence was both weird and funny at the same time.

    Xbox One

    Gears of War 4:

Brilliant game enjoyed it quite well. Didn't like the
areas where you had to cross the lightening.
Really frustrating. Tbh I only had trouble passing the first and found the next to be not so frustrating.

I was going to download it on PC just to see the difference between the console version and PC but it a massive download and I have a really bad connection. Graphics in the Xbox version was brilliant but that is to be expected as the original Gears of War game had game changing graphics on the 360 back in the day.

Finished Mafia 2 on Friday. Decent game, shame the beautiful world they made was a just a backdrop to the story. The opening scene as Vito returns from Sicily made the world feel lived in as neighbours acknowledged you returning.
Missions were decent if a little bit padded with drive halfway across the map to go home/end the chapter. Story had some obvious influences & the ending felt abrupt too. Enjoyed it even though it reminded me of Bully above any other open world game, I don't know was it the fist fighting part or what.
Looking at the Dev's seems a lot of changes were made for Mafia 3 with Hangar 13 coming in & by the look of it cutting every corner they could. Shame as there was plenty to build on here & they apparently told a good story.

    Life is Strange (PS4)

Recently I thought I would reduce the number of games on my backlog by playing some of the shorter ones.

    Adding:

Journey (PS4) - Short game but very special. Love the art style, the music and the human companions you will work with but cannot speak with. Excellent.

Limbo (PS4) - When it was good it was great but sometimes it felt a little cheap. Some of the puzzles depended on very precise timing which got frustrating in parts. In my mind I compared it a lot to Dark Souls, another game I'm playing at the moment. Both bring learning through death but I felt the highs of Limbo weren't as high as those of Dark Souls. Definitely worth a play however.

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition (Xbox 360) - Really enjoyed this, first time playing it. Liked that you could jump between classic and special modes by pressing a button. Sometimes I noticed the new graphics made some things more difficult to see
village on Monkey Island for instance
and in some cases I needed to move to classic mode in order to solve a puzzle
safe on Melee Island seems glitched in special mode
    . Well worth playing.

And I now need to go back to Dark Souls again...

    Another two to add, underlined.

    PC

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: What a game; story wasn't amazing, but the side quests, the scope of the game, the visual beauty, it was a really special gaming experience.
BattleBlock Theatre: Really fun platformer with a wicked sense of humour.
Deadlight: Zombie platformer, fairly short and not particularly difficult but looked great. Story a bit dodgy.
Saints Row The Third: My first Saints Row experience; crazy and irreverent take-off of GTA-type games.
SteamWorld Dig: Fun platform mining adventure game; I couldn't stop playing once I started!
South Park The Stick of Truth: Many LOLs were had with this, just like being in a real episode.
Joe Danger 2 The Movie: Very straightforward racing platformer, with some quite challenging levels.
Shadowrun Dragonfall Director's Cut: Loved it; isometric RPG with turn-based combat.
Mad Max: Really polished sandbox 'Batman-combat' game; story was a bit meh but so was the recent movie and both game and movie still rocked!
Call of Juarez Gunslinger: On rails old west shooter; fairly good what was it was, nothing special though.
Trine 3: Platformer, completed in local co-op with my wife. Nice visuals but the latest game moving to 3D was a misstep I think; not as strong as the previous games.
Child of Light: Beautiful art style, enjoyable narrative, good game IMHO.
The Swapper: Interesting puzzler, quite short.
Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin: Finished the main campaign, leaving the DLC to one side for now. Was burned out after 65 hours and rushed through the final 1/2 of the game, using guides to prep me before each boss fight. Enjoyed it but as with the first game, it's a different type of gaming than that I usually prefer, the challenge can be a bit OTT!

    Wii U

Guitar Hero Live: Cool twist on an old favourite, and well executed to boot.
Splatoon: Finally finished the single player campaign after putting in a good few hours over the weekend; that last boss fight was tough! Enjoyed it but not sure I'll play that much into the future, though the MP scene seems quite lively.

    Android

    TypeRider: Fun and educational platformer.

Finished Hitman Absolution, The Testament of Sherlock Holmes and Battlefield 1.

Hitman Absolution was the first Hitman game I've played through. Went in with lowered expectations since I've heard it wasnt great but to be honest it wasnt too bad. Some of the levels were good but I hated the ones where you're being hunted by cops.

The Testament of Sherlock Holmes I didnt know much about but its a pretty good game despite it being a bit rough around the edges.

Battlefield 1 I played all the singleplayer stories. I liked it at first having played the prologue and the first war story but by the time I'd finished the last one I was more lukewarm to it. Too many one man stealth army missions kind of ruined it. Its more enjoyable being in a big battle surrounded by other soldiers. Still it was the best BF single player campaign I've played since BC2.

    Red Dead Redemption

    ADDING:

Thief I don't think it's as bad as people make out but then again it isn't brilliant. Interesting enough stealth play at times but it gets very samey. While the graphics are impressive for the PS3, it's very muted palette gets a bit oppressive at times. Story made absolutely no sense to me whatsoever.

Saints Row: The Third Really stupid but really enjoyable. Played in fits and starts over the last 6 months or so. Great for a bit of leaving your brain at the door type play

Hard Life 2 Got the Orange Box for the PS3 for the chance to play this. No real issues with slowdown at all except for long loading screens. Didn't know what to make of it at the beginning but slowly got sucked in. An absolutely quality game that deserves all the praise. Now to get stuck into Episode 1 and 2!

    PS Vita:
    Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken
    Silent Hill
    Volume

    ADDING:

Nihilumbra: Grand game. Not much can be said beyond that. I'm not really going to remember much of it in a couple of months time.

The Amazing Spiderman: I had high hopes for this for some reason but it was absolute poo. It looked pretty crappy as well. Very disappointing.

    Android:

Good game enjoyed it more than I thought, considering I played it over a year ago and stopped playing as I didn't like it. Got back into it a couple of days ago and I am glad I did. Was thinking of picking up the newer one but I do not know for sure as I have heaps of back log games.

Overall this game is really good. Aside from the typical elements the series is known for (Chocobos, Gil, Summons, Crystals), you wouldn't think this was a Final Fantasy game if you went in without knowing the title of it. Gameplay-wise it's very far away from what it used to be. That doesn't make it bad, I thought the gameplay was amazing, if a little easier.

It's not the best game in the series but it's a step in the right direction, I believe. It's certainly better than XIII.

    08/12 - Red Dead Redemption (PS3)

    Adding

    14/12 - The Last Guardian (PS4)

A superb game, despite its many technical difficulties. It brought me a type of joy I don't think I've ever experienced as an adult gamer. Huge, ear to ear smiles. There's plenty of games that make me laugh, thrill me, scare me, even make me cry occasionally. But The Last Guardian touched something else. I don't ever remember feeling that way about a character (Trico) in a videogame before. She'll (no penis or testicles, fairly conclusive) melt your heart.

It's not the game I expected. In fact I think a lot of people will be very surprised by where the story goes. There's an interesting parallel with
this year's Inside. In both games you start off trying to escape. You feel vulnerable, on the run. But in the final act the full extent of your agency is revealed. You're not running away, you're running toward. Breaking into an institution to put an end to something deeply troubling.

I don't think I'm spoiling anything by saying that there's a post-credits sequence. I didn't realise it at the time so I caught up with it on YouTube. So make sure you see it! I notice that there's an achievement for 'playing all the way to the end'. I didn't get it so I assume it relates to the post-credits. Something to be aware of for all of you achievement hounds.

    Finished Anodyne and Styx.

Anodyne was pretty good. It's heavily inspired by the classic Zelda games though not as good as those. Its still enjoyable enough though.

Styx is a brilliant stealth game with a fantasy setting. Quite enjoyed that one and it's a must play if you like stealth games.
