So the three mainstream "premium" manufacturers make essentially the exact same car.

In fairness this is probably a result of so much choice of models within each brand, and it's also a sign of modern times when huge teams of professionals are working to the same objectives, the end product is so similar.

Personally I think it's a bit crap though, that none of them offer anything unique. It's crazy how similar they all are now.

Wailin was that you in the Killiney shopping centre earlier ? Or is there another grey 540i on the go ?

Not me cyrus, must be another one out there! Definitely a 540i was it?

Big difference in new price here though. BMW is about 53k, the Audi has to be 65k odd based on fact the golf R is 63k and the Mercedes is 70k odd here. All offer essentially the same thing though as you say.

I'm a officially a ford man :). My first car was a fiesta, but this thing is unreal.

Had my drive home and thrilled with the thing. Ford could easily sell loads of these in Ireland if the kept them in stock I think, doesn't make sense to me. I tried to buy one locally but zero zero interest and numerous lack of returned calls meant that didn't happen. Thanks for the well wishes lads. Cheers

First Joe Achilles look at the 128 ti here. I think it looks good, shame the pricing is so strong here. £33k in the UK!

Should be cheaper than the mk8 gti though. Better built interior but still unsure of that front end.

Has the m135i come down in price here? Just checked the build configurator and it now starts at €51,970. I'm almost sure it was just under 54k last time I looked.

It’s not cheaper. I priced it a couple of weeks ago. VRT changes have added €4K. It’s a shade under €50k before you tick an option.

Surely the gti is affected too?

Dunno tbh, as I’m not sure there was a pre VRT changes price on the GTI. I know the GTI is confirmed at about 46.5k for the manual, 48.5k for DSG. €52.5k for Clubsport.

It's truly sickening being a motorist in this country when you glance across the water and see the difference in costs.

    Yep.
Achilles mentions on his Instagram that you can be in that Ti for £399 down and £399 a month!

I've never been in the market for either but I reckon folk who'd like the 440i wouldn't as yet see themselves in an 840 and folk buying 840s would have been in fast 3s a decade or 3 ago :)

The 128ti is 46,562.41 with just metallic paint, delivery 992.59
    1.9% pcp.
You can't cherry pick the extras you've to buy what ever pack there in which rockets up the price.

I just looked at the figures I was given again here. It’s €48.9K inc delivery after the VRT changes. But as you say, it’s easy to add another ~6k to that as every “pack” is 2k+.

What I was given before any discount..
30,515.70 (549.02 of that is metallic paint)
    6,408.29 - VAT
    9,638.42 - VRT
    46,562.41

By the time I had the few extras I wanted it was at 57,012.83, having to take those packs when you just want something like better lights and keyless entry is really making it too expensive.

Right that's enough chat about 50k cars here and 60k there :) some of the added options on those cars cost more than my wee car!!

I picked up the little fiesta this morning and so far so good. It's a 2018 st2 in frozen white with some extras, including a pan roof and the LED head lights.

Some things I like so far include the general level of tech and how intuitive everything is. I thought it would take a while to figure stuff out but it's exactly as you'd want for the simple stuff, and the set once and forget settings are not too hidden away. I dont know why but I expected this to be really clunky for some reason, but I was wrong and fair play to Ford. It has lane keep assist which I just discovered this evening, and the reason it took me a while to cop is you have to engage it, similar to knocking on cruise control which I think makes more sense than the other way around as reported on the new GTi. It works well, told me to stop driving with no hands and being a díck or else it would chuck me in the ditch so I switched it off and will prob never use it again....great feature all the same...

Sound system seems fine, it's got the B&O system and does the trick although it is battling against the exhaust for attention.

Engine is great, it's a little rough on idle but loads of erm "character", I think, and makes a decent noise which encourages your right foot. It's weird how much torque it has, with the little gear indicator telling me to change up at times I'd think it's in a high enough gear. I remember driving an A4 though that did this and it was defo wrong. The torque also means on damp roads 1st and 2nd will just spin the front wheels if you give it too much, so I need to get new tyres on asap as the Michelins on it now are well down.

Ive had an auto for a good while so great being in a manual again. It's piss easy to drive to be honest, no real news there.

First car I've had with tyre pressure system. It showed the rear right was a few psi down and when I checked in a garage it was spot on, so thumbs up for that.

Little annoyances so far include those door protector things that a lot of Fords have. They are a bit clunky and the mechanism can make noise when opening and closing the door so yeah not fussed. Few of them have the guard broken off too. Google tells me this is really common issue.

Also when you start it up it defaults to normal mode, so you have to hit the mode button to knock it into sport. However, as you have just got in, it wants to tell you how many seat belts are being worn, and that your doors open, and that the engine is on, and loads of other random shít. This all disappears in its own time, but to get the car modes up you need to acknowledge all these announcements with the ok button on the steering wheel first. Yeah I know....push ok a few times, no biggie but little tedious each time. Would be good if it just remembered your mood from the last time.

Driving it today over some mountain roads I actually started laughing at one stage as I was enjoying it so much. I'd consider myself a novice enough driver when it comes to sliding cars around corners but this thing just felt safe to push on. I reminded myself how great this was on a wet bumpy road compared to me trying to nanny a rwd M3 and only getting 10% out of it. At least in the little ford, you feel like you're bombing along.

So all and all, thumbs up!

They’re great fun, you’ll enjoy it a lot I think.

Speaking of the Ford jacket you posted, what are the common things some of you buy when it comes to car stuff? Doing a little market research as I’m now able to sell merch on my channel ;)

Signal blockers for the keys spring to mind but I dunno...

Nice one - had a basci Fiesta in the UK on rental and I was genuinely impressed even if it ran out of puff very quickly. Great fun in town and on really tight back roads. The ST must be a fabulous bit of kit.
