Yeah I saw that too. JA has a 50 min video up where he’s mulling over the options and what he can/can’t afford so it would appear he’s paying for it... he’s always plugging that particular dealership though.

    Shmeee is on another planet.

I like Joe Achilles, he’s obviously just a car guy. Shmeee is possibly the most annoying person on YouTube who just orderers every new car that comes out.

    Agreed.
He seems to makes fortune from YouTube though and has loads on money
There is another guy tge tv who has loads of cars. I don’t know how they keep all the balls in the air with the monthlies etc.

Does anyone know when next model 5 series is out, next after g30?

I know current model just got facelift so probably not for another few years? Current model seemed to be out ages, but only 5 years? So probably another 3 for new model maybe

The reason I’m asking is I have an f10 due to change over coming years but g30 doesn’t seem like a significant enough upgrade so will wait for next model, don’t need to change for another 3 years or so

    E39 was from 96 to 04
    E60 was from 04 to 2010
    F10 was 2010 to 2017
G30 started in 2017 so if guess going by BMW history there won't be a new generation until 2023 or 2024
Mercedes and audi being their 2 biggest competitors brought out e class and a6 in 2016 and 2018 respectively so are a few years away from replacing so I'd say bmw aren't in a hurry

Tom (TGE) put up a video recently about how he affords his cars - also seems to have some grudge against McLaren for some reason

Shmee was in electronics or something before Youtube, I think he sold his company for good money, so he is definitely not exclusively living off Youtube money. TGE is one of the founders of a pretty big UK fitness company, and works in investment banking, as well as having endless dropshipping companies selling random ****e.

I wonder though how Kearys ended up with that for stock?
Do BMW make dealers take a number of high end cars into stock or something or else a cancelled order? They could be looking at it for a long time.
I've seen new X5 M50D, M3, M4 Competition and M5's outside their showroom in Littleisland just in the last 18 months or so, so it's not unusual for them to have very top end cars in stock. ;)

Would explain his middle aged dress sense so. I thought it was Burton biscuit company they owned.
TGE has quit his job in banking he said in one of his recent vids. All the youtubers that had one hate McLaren as do a lot of owners as they release unreliable cars, have too many very similar models that have depreciated massively leaving owners in massive negative equity in their finance deals.

Yea I saw a youtuber saying that English BMW dealers will give you an M3 for c.500 a month if you've got 100k subscribers.

    UK has great pcp offers...

    BMW M2 COMPETITION PACKAGE DCT
    FROM £599 P/M DEPOSIT£1999
    APR 2.9%

    Bmw M3 M3 4dr DCT
Initial rental £5822.76 incl. vat. 47 monthly payments of £485.23 incl. vat. Annual mileage 5000. Documentation fee £39.99 incl. vat. Ref 108592..... 5000 miles annually is low admittedly

    Volkswagen Golf
    2.0 TSI 245 GTI Performance 5dr DSG

Initial rental £2757.69 incl. vat. 47 monthly payments of £306.41 incl. vat. Annual mileage 10000. Documentation fee £234 incl. vat. Ref 133578

Typically BMW models have a 7 or 8 year life span, the G30 has been on sale since early 2017 so I wouldn't expect to see a new model for at least another 3 years. They also tend to upgrade/change the engines and specification at different points during the model's life cycle to keep it fresh.

With regard to lifespan of the 5 series, this is the future BMW information thread I refer to. The OP appears to be a BMW insider and has start and end of production information for all models as well as engine info etc.
very informative. G30 to end production 06/2023.

Coming from the f10 to the g30 myself i can say it's a big upgrade. The interior is on another level. Handling wise they are similar enough but you won't notice much difference anyway between large saloon cars. The new 5 series, whenever it comes out, will be ugly as sin anyway if current bmw styling is anything to go by!

I agree with the posters that the g30 is a decent step up from f10. Driving isn't going to change much with next one either, power train might change but how they feel will be similar.
It's the interior where the g30 improves most on f10. I had an f10 and the fiance had an Audi a6 and I much preferred the Audi interior. But I test drove a g30 and was very impressed by the interior, nice step up. I'd put it on par with current Mercedes but defo not as good as audi, but more impressive than the previous generation of them all. I find myself looking at 530e A LOT, although I'm always looking at different things.

I found the F10 interior easily on a par with the A6 of the time to be honest but it really depended on the spec and colour combination, of course they both are dated given the design is 10 years old. Always found the interior of my F10 to be way nicer than 95% of the A6s out there that have 50 shades of boring grey.

    This was mine:

I wouldn't agree on the audi being nicer than the g30. It's not on par with the merc either but far better. The quality of materials used in the bmw is faultless while the merc and audi both skimp here and there with cheap plastics, are a bit creaky and nowhere near as bullet proof as the g30. Yes, they've all the bling and tech and look like they were designed by a teenager on bangers but the g30 has a classy understated interior , less bling but higher quality.

Still looks good on a car that came out 10 years ago. The same era A6 looks so dated in comparison.

Have to agree with the above, the A6 interior is very dated in the previous model and the new one with all the screens is bloody awful. I was a passenger in an A7 recently and thought the interior looked awfully cheap. I really like the Current Mercedes E Class interior but judging by the newly introduced S Class they will all have bloody awful massive screens soon enough anyway.

Fresh 5 door fiesta st Vs 12 year old e92 M3.

These two cars are at complete different ends of the spectrum but interestingly I find that these are the two that are my potential next move.

E92, one of the best engines ever made, sounds great, very fast(prob too much) and it's an actual M3. It eats fuel and it's 1800 a year in tax. Probably more likely to have bits and bobs expense wise due to being the age it is. I'm basically buying an engine if I go there.

St, cheap to run, warranty, fun and practical. Has loads of spec like pano roof, heated seats, heated wheel, android auto etc but will depreciate prob more than M3.

I spoke to an owner of an M3 lately and he said that 3rd gear has you at 115mph which is very off putting for me. All the chat about the engine and the +8k rpm limit but that's not much good if you can only do it in 2 gears.

Any thoughts out there on there on these two very different cars?

If you have the money and the means, get the M3 - there will be plenty of time to enjoy turbo hot hatches, but the era of the V8 is rapidly coming to a close... get one and enjoy it while they're still allowed.

Yes the rod bearings are a well known weakness and I'd definitely be changing them ASAP even though it's very expensive, also be wary of the throttle body actuators, but as M cars go they're reliable apart from that, a big improvment on the E46 M3 that's for sure - no subframe, VANOS, head gasket or gearbox issues for starters. It's simply sensational to drive, nothing bar I suspect another old school M car or something more exotic will rival it.

I love the Fiesta even in standard format so I can only imagine just how much fun an ST version is to drive, but there's still a few years left of hot hatchbacks having revvy petrol engines with manual gearboxes.

E92 m3 running costs would scare me. I don't think it's a car you'd hold on to for long, maybe a year or two. I feel it's more of a weekend car or second "fun" car, not daily. But what a car! I was in the market for one as well before I got the 540i. The positive of ownership is that it won't depreciate anymore on you, or very little. 16-18mpg, €1800 tax, high insurance and possible maintenance costs is just too high. Get one with rod bearings and throttle actuators done and that's half the battle because they will have to be done 100% and your looking at around €3500.

Not sure about the ST. Great fun with it's size and handling but you might want something with more horses after awhile?

ST performance more useable on a daily basis. It’ll never be an M3. They’re so different. The noise of that V8 inside the car is glorious. No piped in engine sounds in them for starters. A whole different kettle when it comes to running costs though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,841 ✭✭✭maddness

I feel the time for having a car like a V8 M3 is now while you still can. I’ve never driven either an E92 M3 or a St Fiesta and I’m sure they are both brilliant but you are comparing an absolute legend with a Fiesta.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 349 ✭✭marcos_94

Unless you need a hatchback regularly as a daily, id go M3. Even then, the e92 with folding seats are actually quite practical (had two e92s previously). Having recently bought an e46 m3 as a daily, its been a great car to drive and theyre normally pretty welll specced even compared to modern cars. Yes the tax is high, and yes there may be some unexpected bills, but I will guarantee you everytime you start it up and go for a spin, it will all be worth it. I also reckon that the e90/92 generation M3 is starting to bottom out in terms of prices. Prices in the UK are holding and some increasing at the moment. Check out M3Cutters.co.uk in the classifieds section as well as pistonheads for cars for sale

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 344 ✭✭chalky_ie

M3 all day, I had a go of one and they are loads of fun at any speed, the noise of them is incredible with an exhaust. There is a nice one for sale for 23k with the rod bearings done on bmwhaus, looks like it has been well looked after. They are going to be very hard to bring in from the UK from next year, so I reckon they will hold their price well also.

Many 1.4s from the 90s tickled 90mph in 3rd so .............. such is life.

You could potentially have to throw a few €5ks at the M3 if you daily it for a few years and have bad luck with the bathtub curve.

Thanks for all the replies and views gents. All makes sense. I think the stand out thought that I hadn't fully thought about was that there should also be little turbo hatch backs floating about. Ive no doubt if I do bite the bullet on the e92 it will be sore to run and the novelty may wear off after some time but still want to dip my toe into one before it's not an option.

I don't think the novelty of the M3 will wear off if it's any consolation. It's the only car I've had that I regularly think about 10 years on.
