He was just 21 then. I know he's been unfortunate with injuries but it's a shame he hasn't fully reached his potential. Wonder if he ever will?

if he could start tonight, It would be the perfect timing

I think Theo, Alexis and Welbeck need to start tonight, Giroud has been poor lately and we'll need Theo and Welbecks pace on the counter.

Well with regards to our place and standing in European football the two Barcelona games will reveal where we stand at least. It will reveal where we stand and how good the squad is. We did manage to beat Bayern in one leg but were hockeyed in the return leg. This could even be harder.

Arsenal might magically pull something out of the bag tonight, but I can't see anything but a Barca win over two legs. I'm deeply worried it's going to be a mauling. Sure, we will see!

Having said that I'd rather get stuffed by the best team on the planet, than to be soundly beaten by a team of nobodies from Denmark, who are on their Winter Break, just as an example.

Is it just me or are the odds Paddypower are giving us tonight insulting? 16/5 when we're at home?! If only pay day was sooner I'd be throwing a few quid on it. I know Barca are playing very well and we've hit a slump but surely we stand a decent chance at home, certainly not over 3-1!

Back 5 picks itself tonight but would love us to line up like this in our midfield/final third.......

    ................................Coquelin..........Ramsey......................
    Welbeck...................................Ozil...........................................Sanchez
    ............................................Walcott....................................................

Lets have a right go at these.

Or play out a scoreless draw against the mighty Augsburg.

Does Welbeck work well that deep?

To me he's striker or nothing.

    Walcott Ozil Sanchez
    Welbz

    For me

Welbeck will work his ass off for the team. I just don't trust Walcott or Chamberlain out wide to do that.

Fear a spanking to be honest, home legs coming first in last 16 ties havent been kind to Arsenal in recent years, with the away legs being gallant failures to turn the tie around I'd be fearful this could be even worse again, Barca are the type to win 3 or 4 nothing tonight & still want to do the same in the return... given how potent they are in attack & how off the boil Arsenal have been its hard to see how Arsenal can really hurt them... unless Barca genuinely respect Arsenal & play it cagey I cant see anything but a convincing win over the 2 games for them.

As a club I find barca vile (their fans are as bad, paris in 06 reinforced that opinion & it'll never change), & would love nothing more to just once beat them & progress. Sadly I don't see it happening this year, but going out at least reduces the burden in terms of commitments fo the remainder of the season... the league is there to be won, with Europe out of the way it may not be a bad thing. If however Arsenal beat them & progressed surely the boost in confidence would have a knock on for domestic fixtures also?

A win win then, whatever the result ?

Personally I'd be ecstatic if we could beat them over the 2 legs but I'd be happy enough with a narrow win or even a draw tonight and Barca just managing to do enough to knock us out.

I can see us conceding a few over the 2 legs (5+) (desperately hope I'm wrong)

I'm easily pleased. I'm happy if we don't get any red cards or concede any penalties tonight.

Don't quite get the dislike for Barca and the hated for their mes que stuff. Ok they're massive and they've been that for a long time and their fans can be sanctimonious.
But the mes que is probably genuine enough for the locals in rhe context and the big money thing is just what you got to do if you want to be where they are. And they are pretty fantastic and have been for a long time and they aspire to play really well and have done that also for a long time.
Now I don't particularly like them myself but you gotta respect who they are.

Having said that they're only 11 as is Arsenal and they have their weaknesses too. Players just have to be up for it tonight and then anything can happen.

I go for a win but obviously hard to see a clean sheet.

No good creating and then missing loads of chances.

Expecting big performances out of Ozil and Sanchez. We also need Ramsey to get his act together and start reproducing some of that form he showed a few seasons back. As Basil has said its imperative that we keep our discipline and not shoot ourselves in the foot like previous years in the knock out stages.

If there's a red card it'll only be for one club. Of that much I'm confident.

    Reasonably predictable lineup, reasonable bench

Just watched a little highlight reel of recent games between Arsenal and Barcelona.

Fcuking Almunia was at our club for way to long.

    Shocking.

I think Wenger has gotten it wrong again.
Coquelin and The Ox over Campbell.
Having to play Per cos he hasnt developed a replacement.

Campbell had his purple patch, but he generally hasn't played well for a while now.

At least we have a bench that can make things happen.
