Didn't see the game but it's alarming how we seem to be in a period where we are really struggling to score goals. We shouldn't need to depend on Ozil to break down a team like Hull.

Also, the signing of Elneny looks stranger by the week.

6 goals in last 7 matches, failed to score in 4 of the 7. It's really dire stuff.

Ive been impressed with Elneny. With the absence of Wilshere and the effective redundancy of Diaby, we have lacked that player who can drive at the heart of opposition defences from the middle of the field. In time he'll prove a shrewd acquisition.

    Dafuq?
He's played 2 games and has been pretty decent in both. Considering who he had around him he done pretty well. He was always available for the pass and covered a lot of ground.

He needs to bulk up a bit though.

We are creating the chances though. It would be more concerning if we weren't creating chances. You can't really say that we wasted decent chances today either. On another day, could have easily had a few goals from the chances we created today.

Unlucky not to get the win but think the replay won't be too bad. Our second string is clearly good enough so let ten have another crack at it.

Lots of over the top reaction here today lads and lasses.

Hull were literally a brick wall, they didn't play the game in anyway and. When they did crumble they happened to make some ridiculous saves on the day. No it wasn't the huge win we were hopin for but it wasn't a capitulating failure.

I would say sanchez's form is worrying, hope he gets on it soon an Barca would be a great time to do so!

    Chin up lads!

Sanchez, Giroud, Walcott and Welbeck were all on the pitch today and none could finish a chance. Not just today either. It'll click at some stage and we'll hammer a team (it's been long enough) but scoring in 3/7 matches is a terrible return even before looking at the quality of opposition I'm those matches.

Couldn't give a damn about the cups. The league is where it's at.
Did we get any injuries though?

Its not so much the result tbh, id have almost preferred to have lost to remove the burden of another fixture. We should throw out the youngsters at the KC. Id much prefer to give the league the best shot we possibly could then even win the cup

I don't think it will click tbh. Without a ball playing CMF, it's gonna be low scoring.

Giroud's job there is knock downs and he did that perfectly. Elneny just stopped his run for one and then Ox had a horror finish for an open goal.

    Sanchez in poor form though.

???? Why does the signing of Elneny look stranger by the week???

So between now and the FA Cup quarter final, if they make it, where do they fit in the replay? I'm guessing midweek after the Spurs game, unless the Swansea game gets pushed because of it? If they do make the quarter final that will be 7 games in 22 days :(

    Interesting stat breakdown:

    http://cartilagefreecaptain.sbnation.com/2014/2/12/5404348/english-premier-league-shot-statistics

We have had by far the most shots in the danger zone (in and around the 6 yard box), and have allowed our opposition the least amount of shots in this zone.

Goes to show, a lot of things are being done right, except for the small issue of putting the ball in the back of the net :p

Because I don't see what it is he does any better than what we already have. What is his purpose? Just don't see it at the moment. Wrong signing at the wrong time. He's featured so sparsely I don't see why we didnt just wait until the summer to sign him.

He was bought as cover and that's how he's been used so far. What difference would it have made to sign him in the summer?

Exactly, that's my point. Signing him in the summer would have made no difference, such is his game time at the moment.

We are toothless up front. A forward signing in January was called for. Will the signing of Elneny be the difference between 1st and 2nd? No, I don't believe so.

This is just my opinion. No harm having a squad player but our failings in front of goal at present seem to indicate other areas of the pitch were more of a priority.

Flamini was playing every game when we signed him. If Coq gets injured again he'll be hugely important. If Coq doesn't, he's for the future.

Our finishing isn't too bad actually. Same conversion rate as Leicester if you discount penalties (arseblog).

We miss ball playing midfielders. We've a few of then at the club - Cazorla, Wilshire, Rosicky.

I think there was a realisation that Arteta just isn't physically up to it any more, which I'm sure is part of it. That, coupled with Wilshere's injury which has really dragged, makes him a worthwhile signing.

Where is that stat? Every stat I've seen shows them as having one of the best conversion rates (shots on goal to goals), and us one of the worst.

Edit: just saw, they are comparing total shots to goals.

It's not fully comparable. Like it's Arsenal's record across all competitions and you have to discount penalties for Leicester.

I think we're (typical Arsenal) unlucky at present. Our main striker has been unlucky in front of goal, and our main goal scoring midfielder has run dry since coming back from an injury. I've a feeling we will explode in front of goal soon. When we do, we'll blow somebody away. It's a concern of course, but I'm the eternal optimist!

Arsenal have gone through spells like this pretty much every season since the glory days of titi and Bobby ended, I remember seeing them draw 0-0 with Sunderland in about 2010 during a 4 game 0-0 run. What's different this year is that they haven't fallen away during the lean spell. I'm not usually optimistic when it comes to arsenal but I think it could click soon, and when it does they might just be favourites.

Spurs apparently focussing on winning the league.

Fúck i have preferred an equaliser today from them tbh.

Ill take the league any day of the week over the cup so if Wenger wants to throw the reserves or even the women in up in the KC then i personally dont care. Give me a very very close run second over another cup win and third or fourth place finish. id have more optimism for next season on that basis.

Didn't Spurs have a shot hit both posts? Funny we hit everything straight at the keeper and we're "unlucky", they hit both posts and aren't trying. :pac:
