For me Monreal was at fault for the first goal. Bellerin was already closing down Suarez, so Monreal should have enough experience to have a look around, make sure no other players can get involved and if it comes to it let Suarez go one on one with Cech. Instead, both he and Bellerin went for the same player, whereas if one of them had dropped to the center, the pass would never have been on.

The two full-backs ended up on the line, the two CBs were nowhere.

How many times have Arsenal fans said this! Yet he keeps coming back and proving us........right!

FFS that Peno was not his fault! WTF was Mert doing knocking the ball down in the box. I was screaming at the TV "WHY DIDN'T YOU HOOF IT!".

Absolutely this means hopefully they will now concentrate on the League. Wenger should put the 2nd team out for the 2nd game in Barcelona.

This isn't gonna happen im afraid

I think nearly every player played at a very high standard today. There are a lot of positives to take out of today. Sanchez seems to have found his form again.

But that Flamini sub on and giving away a penalty really illustrated what has been wrong with our season, and will sadly be the signal that he will probably barely ever play for Arsenal again with Elneny being back up anymore. I was annoyed he came on because I thought we'd concede from him being in Barcelona's box looking for a chance, but I didn't expect him to give away a rash penalty!

Coquelin did fúck all wrong tonight, criticism for the sake of criticism.

    watch the game again.
Coquelin did nothing , he spent most of the match chasing space and shadows,
and didnt make any positive contibutions.

Worried about what that'll take out of the players going forward. Phenomenal effort for 90 to be fair.

Sickening thing is we were playing really well for 70mins. But when you're playing in a competition like this you can't miss the chances we did.

There was no one better than Giroud or Walcott available though...
Sure why do we need better? We now have Welbeck to run around and do **** all.

Just seem Girouds idiotic pass to nobody again.

Christ, we need to start scoring goals again and quickly.

In fairness Welbeck did more in the time he was on that Walcott by a million miles! I'm not saying he is the answer to all our woes but he came on and played well I thought

Mert was absolutely shocking tonight, playing people onside the whole time, getting out jumped for headers, and the penalty was caused by him, yes Flamini is an idiot, but he shouldn't have been left like that, Mert should have cleared it out, so little passes. He's starting to have more bad performances than good these days

Said it earlier. Its a tie we could do without.

Just go for the league and no messing.

Chuck a second team out in the second leg. At this point who cares if Arsenal lose 5-0 at the Camp Nou?

You have a gilt edged chance to win the Premier League.

That should be the priority now,

A come on now. Per ****ed up (again) yeah but he didn't take Messi out of it. Anyway I blame Wenger more for bringing him on in the first place.

We're just not good enough to make an impact in this competition sadly. Not clinical enough.

Onwards and upwards. Massive game on Sunday. We need to see a response.

Right time to get outta here for the night, its gone from talking about the match and the talking points to slaggging nearly every player and saying how ****e they are

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,257 ✭✭✭omega man

Fortunately we do usually respond well so maybe Utd is the perfect game.

Worried about our lack of goals though. Did Walcott actually even come on tonight??!!

Arsenal loss is like moths to a flame on this thread.

Winning on Sunday is much more important.

    you can say that again.

Soon as we lose AGAIN in a big European tie, the usual suspects are all out complaining why are people posting and knocking ANOTHER ****e performance against a big team after a big build up.

great roll on the next PL match I suppose youse can all get excited about beating Bournemouth and post loads then..

ffs we have had 10 years of this sort of inept CL performance .. it wore thin about 5 years ago

Whats the story with the new signing? Flamini getting minutes over him has to be discouraging. One for the future? Probably look back on the window as a huge missed chance as we did little to improve.

This. We have no clinical finishers.

I'm not saying it HAS to be Giroud because his style of CF play is largely about being others into the game and those type of players rarely get more than 1 in 2.

But if he's working to bring others into the game, they can't be finishing like Ox or simply not scoring like Sanchez and Ramsey.

We need a proper RW really badly.

Just thinking about Messi's desire to get in the box for the penalty, we just don't have players with that desire. Well, only Ramsey and Flamini :p

welbeck looked a threat for ye when he came on tonight. thought he did well

The gulf in class was ludicrous at times, great defending for the majority of the game, but Arsenal were leading a charmed life throughout. It still hurts though to go down to two goals in the final twenty minutes. I found it a lot like watching Ireland play - good organisation and effort but, making things almost impossible for themselves by giving the ball away cheaply when in posession.

Hopefully that'll be it for Flamini

Is Wilshere back soon? i think it could be a good game to throw him in on tbh if he was available. He likes to run at defenders.

You could compare tonight to a dart game against a prime Phil Taylor. If you miss the doubles, he'll punish you

Sanchez hasn't played a good game since before Xmas. He's actually starting to look like he's brain dead, Look at him, He takes the ball down. Then turns and runs straight into the player in front of him. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Never changes. He expects the player to just get out of the way. It's the reason Barca got rid of him and despite a great start to his Arsenal career, he's gone back to it. He loses possession more than any other player on the field, and all too often it's in a position that can really hurt us. Defenders must love playing against him when he plays like that.

Saw the game perfectly fine the first time. Calling out coquelins performance is a joke, he wasn't one of the suspect players on that pitch.

That tonight was as good as he is. I've nothing against the lad, he simply isn't good enough.

Mert was more culpable for that peno tbh. Although i agree his Arsenal days are numbered

    Wenger sounds really pissed off

He was visibly raging at someone on the sideline after they scored - Mertesacker I'd imagine. Hopefully it'll convince him we need to improve upon Mertesacker as he's probably the only weak link in that back 5 as things stand.
