Ordered some flank steak from my local TV celebrity butcher.
Will take a week to arrive but found out that's what he uses in his steak pieces

I actually never asked but Ethersons are reasonable on their meat.
The pieces are cheap enough so don't imagine the steak being any dearer.

I tried their fillets a few weeks ago. Cooked exactly the same at the same time, both medium, one was amazing, the other was inedible. Could cut one with a spoon, the other I couldn't chew. Both from the same pack!

Interesting. I've four well-used cast iron pans of various sizes that are just too heavy for me these days. A bit tempted - let us know what you think.

I got a cast iron griddle pan in Arnotts for half price the other day. It was 35 euros and seems very good.

A little more expensive than the Amazon one.

Ah right, thanks, was anyone else expecting some kind of Steak-matic-9000 steak cooking device? :D

Went into Lidl at lunchtime and was slightly disappointed that the steaks were so small. A 202g steak is imo not enough for an adult but then 2 of them would be (slightly!) too much. It is still good value (€15/kg) but it's going to get messy at teatime with divvying up the extra ones I had to buy!

    Am I just a fat/greedy bast*rd? Is a 202g steak enough for an adult??

    202 grm is ~ 7 ounces

It is more than the WHO state you should eat of red meat per day and about equivalent to what you get in most casual dining places (pub grub) but I would think it a little miserable for a dinner , I would usually look for a good 10oz steak for myself and My Mates

Whenever i eat steak, i only have a salad next to it.
Just for the reason i can eat more steak then.

So 2 of those 202 gram ones will not be a problem. Just eat a little less salad.

Or eat one and a half steaks and make a steak and onion sandwich with chips the day after...

Or a warm beef salad next day with plenty of red onions and a horseradish dressing.

202g is a bit small but I'll still be getting some, Lidl rib eyes are excellent quality.

For anyone looking for cast iron pans TX Maxx usually have a good selection around €30-€40. Would recommend the Le Cruset brand if you can find it, I've mine about six years now and its a workhorse.

I usually eat the 2 pack Aldi ones.

Usually I stick with strip loin and treat myself with the odd fillet. I must say this thread inspired me to try a rib eye steak last week from Aldi (not a bargain, just wanted to try it). One of the best steaks I've ever had.

Jaysus, those Lidl steaks are gorgeous. I bought a couple of the Striploins on sale the other day and they were great. They were then out of stock until today, so I picked up a couple of the rib eyes and four more striploins. Had the rib eyes for dinner and have just had a cheeky couple more of the striploins. Cooked them in the Tefal Actifry. Best way to cook steaks.

Cooking a steak in an actifry? This man should be removed from the Internet.

Cook a steak in an Actifry or an Airfryer and then come back to me.
