The Extreme line checker is back saying not available again! Every week its a different message. The FTTC checker has always failed tho.

If I get a chance later i'll ask one of the KN guys what the story is if they are not too busy. It's not that easy to ask them whats the situation when they are either in a digger, feeding fibre or in the trucks sending cement and blocks down into the holes.

I had no idea FTTH involved creating so many manholes! That seems to be taking up most of their time over everything else. Will be interesting to see what happens when they reach the houses/poles over the next few days.

From what I read elsewhere, Fibre will be ran past your house..Then tailings will be left by either them or another company close to your entrance...then a fibre will be run to your house by another crowd...then a box on the outside wall with your port inside....Is your house within xxx meters of the blue line as you say you are on a spur off the main road...
Manholes are for existing/ possibly future premises?

But if there is a duct already present to bring in a telephone line, then surely they will use that and not create unnecessary work doing this?

Manholes are there for the optical splitters, this is GPON remember.

In urban areas where your drop is in a dug they'll try and snake it along beside if possible, if impacted they may tell you to clear it yourself. In rural areas it'll come off the pole onto the gable etc the same as a phone line, then be fed through the wall in an anti drip fashion(in low out high) with a small outer box and a terminator screwed to the inner wall.

Yep, If the duct is wide enough, hasn't got tight bends, and will be done by another company/team down the road...

the guys are not working today, perhaps they are working on another section (there are about 5 routes radiating out from the exchange).

Also the section they have goten as far as, the ditch is completely waterlogged with 2/3 feet of water, perhaps they need this to be drained by some other party before continuing?

my house is sitting on the blue line, the road im on is a 600 meter cul de sac spur but has 20 houses on it, the blue line runs as far as the last pole on the road.

KNN have the kit to drain it themselves, but may need to call in the equipment from another area to do so.

They also may just be on appointment duty today.

    on the checker today....

You are in an advanced broadband area

Unfortunately eir Fibre Extreme is not currently available in your area; we are constantly working on improving our network and expanding our 1000Mb reach. In the meantime, the good news is you can still avail of our advanced broadband service.

    :(

after yesterdays break, the guys are back, they drained the ditch and there are now 2 seperate KNN teams working on the project. The team from the past week are still digging new manholes and marking out new ones and a new team has arrived closer to me at the start of the ribbon developments and are sending guys up the poles and running cables down the road. 2 more diggers arrived and much more KN equipment around the place in general. The lads are extremely busy so wasn't gonna bother them. They are now within 750 meters away!

Once they start working on the section of road I live on I will get some pics! Right now it's a bit awkward, its a narrow section of road they are working on almost 1km away and when they are working they have cones half way across the road and traffic squeezing into a narrow path to get by with lights on timers and the KN lads are real busy and look like they are under pressure as it's a huge project.

After 5pm they take everything away and there is not much to see apart from manholes and markings on the ground.

As for the poles im not entirely sure I saw much difference to them this evening after KN went home for the evening, there are slim black boxes on the top of a few of them with yellow stickers, not sure if they were there before or if that means anything.

I have attached a section of Openeir's map for eastern Dunshaughlin showing where they have worked so far. The red lines show where they have worked. the long red line is where they were working on all the ducts and creating manholes. the shorter red line just after it is the start of the ribbon developments and where I saw them working on poles today.

The green area is approx near where I live so it's getting ever closer by the day!

Ah I envy you guys. The magical blue line runs just past my house before stopping. Bad thing is the town that we'll likely be taking the feed from is hasn't got fiber yet, planned for 2017-2020, so it will be a while yet! :(

They are looking for Feedback at the moment when you call up the map. Maybe people could suggest more precise timings and more about the logic behind the blue lines.

Well fibre to the left of me and fibre to the right of me on the same rural road but a mile on the road where I am with nothing
The rural cabinet/exchange has a blue line running about 4 miles
From the urban side its only going out a mile
I can see the town(Arklow) yet Eir see's fit to stop its blue line about a km beyond the town boundary
The rural one runs in the middle of nowhere from the other side for several kilometres

Where it stops and where the blue line from the town stops, theres no blue line for over 2km's,and I am in the middle of this

    Ridiculous

    No hope?

Yeah - I mentioned that one of the 'within 12 months' FTTH villages announced in March still has no blue lines on the map. I also mentioned that this village of 100 potential FTTH houses, in the back end of no where, is already running VDSL2 and connected to the backbone fibre network via my local exchange, (which unfortunately runs only ADSL1, connects to around 450 houses and multiple businesses, is congested with brutal upload speeds and is listed as having FTTH 'between 2017-2020').

Not that'll make any damn difference, but it makes me feel better...

Can you send them up my way when they're done? Cheers. Tell them I have tea and scones.
