This. I'm still baffled by what happened with both halves in 2011/2012. That game against England, denying them the Grand Slam, was a genuinely excellent performance and both Redser and Sexton had really good games.

Ireland then played 5 games (including 4 really poor warm up games) before the lads were partnered up again. When they were we beat SH opposition in the SH for the first time in that Australia game. The 2 weren't partnered again until we faced Scotland in the 6 Nations, 7 games later, and we were all but out of the running in the tournament.

14 games from England 2011 to Scotland 2012 and they started only 3 of them together despite the first 2 of them being clearly Ireland's best performances in that time period, if not the 2 years since the 2009 GS. It was madness.

When you think of what a colossal fuchup Kidney made of such a great opportunity in 2011, it puts the Marmion question in its true perspective.

Gerry Thornley names Marmion as the 3rd scrumhalf to travel.

To clarify before it all kicks off. If you read the body of the text, you'll see that he thinks Boss will travel, but that he (Gerry) would pick Marmion.

FWIW, Marmion's chances are exactly the same as they were earlier in the week. He was never going to be involved today so his exclusion means nothing. So he could well be in third spot for all we know.

They're not. Gametime with Ireland doesn't count for nothing as you seem to believe. So thaks Gerry to point out what should have happened, but it's all over...

Yeah but we disagreed that with gametime against Wales, chances could have been balanced. Anyway this didn't happen

Marmion picked up a knock last night. Would have been called up otherwise :D

Yep, Marmion could've got the call up!

    :pac:

He's the scrum half equivalent of Mike McCarthy. Best years behind him but an experienced campaigner who can slot straight in without hassle, but is there strictly for emergencies.

A third RWC for Isaac, a great achievement.

Marmion was poor last night anyway. The way he threw some passes I would not like to see him on the field for Ireland in the WC. Hopefully we won't see Boss on the pitch anyway.

Eh no. If Boss gets near the pitch we're done for.

It was a tongue in cheek comment :)

Exactly what NZ fans were saying about Donald in 2011!
