My favourite recent trend is people taking neat music levels and actually turning them into real levels with some challenge.

People have been talking a lot about how Mario Maker made great use of the Gamepad, and rightfully so, but I haven't seen as many talk about how it's the first game to integrate Miiverse in a really meaningful way. I don't think I've ever checked Miiverse more than I have since the game was released.

As the year draws to a close. I've seen Super Mario Maker win numerous Game Of The Year awards and I feel it's rightly deserved. The game has so much depth. I'm still astounded by some of the ingenious levels and innovation. The only limit seems to be your imagination. A slight niggle would be in terms of music. That definitely could be expanded upon. But the trickle of new content, like costumes, levels and hopefully continued DLC will give this legs. If you look at Splatoon, especially in Japan, it seems to be growing and gaining popularity from word of mouth.

Costumes are completely useless for me. The old SMB skin is the one I use the least (by far). I wish they recreated all skins for all 4 versions.

V1.31 is out now (just fixes for 1.30).

Has anybody ever placed a pair of doors and then knocked on them a few times? Give it a go.

@Gar.. Finished all your levels handy enough but I must have spent s good 3 hours on "A test of wall jumping skills"

1.76% clear rate I'm happy to be part of.

Good level, frustrating at the end but doable which is why I kept coming back to it.

    Now finally moving on.

Yeah A Test of Wall Jumping Skills and If You're Good At Jumping = Win are the two levels of mine that I'd classify as being really hard myself. The rest are fairly easily doable.

Yeah the doable ones were enjoyable though.

I think a mix of doable and frustratingly doable is important.

I've been watching a few of the Japanese lads on twitch lately and I don't know how they do some of the moves they do.

There are some amazing players out there. I'm not bad but I'm a million miles from some of the skills on show on twitch

Yeah. Excitebike is semi automatic. Just run. I like going for the world records. I can get within a couple of seconds on these but there's no way I'll beat that Birdo record.

is there any way of checking which courses you've gotten world records on? I know i've gotten a few through expert level runs and then a few of the event courses but no idea how to check them out

I don't think so but expect it in a future update. There was some idea I had and it's so simple but I can't remember it right now and I expect it too in a future update. That's what drink does to you.

Neat so. Just doing some of the event courses and when I complete one, sometimes it doesn't unlock a costume, is this intended? Have you to find the costume in the level to unlock it?

The levels with a mystery mushroom beside it have a costume in it. And you don't need to get the costume, you just need to finish it.

That's what I thought, I've finished every event course and there are definetly two I didn't get a costume for, one bring the pax omegathon one, the other I can't remember the name of atm.

Edit: I looked up a wiki, not all event courses with mushrooms unlock costumes apparently, as the wiki lists the pax one along with two of the arino maker ones as having no costume reward

Absolutely amazing. I've played a LOT of SMM levels and there was stuff there I hadn't seen before. I was laughing and clapping along with the crowd. Very entertaining.

The skill level of everyone involved shows how good SMM can be when you have creators that will thoroughly think their levels out and not just spam bowsers/mobs etc

The doughnut levels have replace my hatred for spring and music note levels!

God they'd just so frustrating. You have control but it can be lost so easily.

The music notes and springs just feel that bit more fair.

..also whilst I'm ranting I hate when you have past a check point and then die and in frustration hit pause and start over really quickly without thinking and of course then being right back to the start of the level !! Argh!! This has happened me more than once.

    Still love the game though.

Ya, I seen that. It was really good.

Anybody else having problems with this site? I had to download the app to type this, it just times out if I try normally on my phone, PC or Wii U. It's been down a day and I noticed I stopped receiving notifications of new posts in my e-mail account last night.

I hate typing on my phone.

Yeah it has been terribly unreliable lately. Long thread in Feedback about it.

On topic, it has been ages since I've played this! Should pick it up again.

I've been playing several members courses from here. Some were very good and made for excellent speed running levels. I'll post some of them later, it's too awkward on my phone. I've a lot of records on them and I'll challenge ye to beat them. :)

Anyone got any decent tips on how to P switch jump or shell jump? I keep running into these courses on 100MC and i know they're simple bar pulling off the actual jump.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,943 ✭✭✭Machismo Fan

For P-Switch jumping you jump the second you hit the switch, no hesitation. I can't pull off shell jumps myself either.

Cheers! I often find myself hitting the switch but not jumping off it correctly, getting better at it though spent a few hours over the last few nights practising it. I managed to do the shell jump once and it was a complete fluke. any other time i just stack it lol
