I got to level 12 of 100 Mario Mode on Expert with 65 lives left thinking it wasn't so bad this time... I game overed on level 12.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,213 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

I had about 73 lives left after 9 or 10 levels on Expert last night and still got slaughtered before the end at level 15. I'm going to have to skip more of the awful levels. I think what happens is that I earn the 3 extra lives and am determined to try and build up my lives but end up losing more in the process.

    I hope you starred it!
Was playing my levels last night with my brother and sister and I actually couldn't pass that in one go.

Actually, I was playing expert mode for the first time too last night and also had an Irish level pop up which was a first.
Maybe it's not as random as we think.

Yes I starred it. I don't think there's been any Irish level I've played that I haven't starred.

I have a five life rule. If I die five times I skip and if there is a cheap death or an excess of randomness at the start of a level I'll hand wave straight away.

Ino I said this in another thread, but I wanna say this out to all Super Mario makers.

Who thinks Nintendo should get rid of the item maximum - you are only allowed a certain amount of items / stuff in a level.

I have reached the maximum with a few items alright but I think it's more to do with processing power and things like that. There's only so many things that can go on at one time on a screen.

I've played well over 100 hours now at this stage which is easily a record for me. And I'm not even close to getting bored with it!

I ran into the problem with coins last night in my new level Wario's Goldmine. And I had to leave the cavern dips and bumps empty due to the same issue. Didn't affect the level but it wasn't visually pleasing.

No I mean like you're only allowed 3 Bowsers in a level (one area, so in a sub-zone you would be allowed another 3 only when it should be unlimited!). Or, I wanted to have a world full of enemies in Star World, but no there was a maximum of how many I was allowed - so the world is practically ruined.

So I have made a list of the things here that could make Super Mario Maker absolutely perfect.

    1. Delete the element in a level maximum - like you're only allowed 3 Bowsers in a level - you should be allowed unlimited.
2. Improved social media sharing options - share your codes to Twitter or Facebook within Super Mario Maker itself.
    3. Better thumbnail & big picture settings - you can barely see the pictures of your level.
    4. Playlists - you could of have played and starred plenty of levels but if you want to play a certain one again - you'd be ages looking through them and a playlist can shorten your search.
    5. Slopes - players should be allowed to slope the land within a level.
    6. Checkpoints - I find it extremely frustrating how I have to start levels all over again and even if I am half way or more through the level, I still have to start it all again.
    7. Leaderboards - there should be a ranking system where you could compete against people on levels for higher scores each time.
    8. More settings - there should be more choices of settings of places such as the desert, the rocky canyons, underground (as in New Super Mario Bros DS World 2-3 & World 6-3), snow, forest, desert cave, ice cave, beach, sky/mountain top.
    9. Other powerups - Giant mushroom, ice flower, brown leaf etc.
    10. Star coins
    11. Rotating and snake blocks
    12. Add other game styles such as Super Mario Bros. 2.
    13. World maps
    14. Increase the number of levels you are allowed save as well as more than 4 levels per world.
    15. More sound effects and Music
    16. Yoshi's powers (such as holding a Koopa Troopa in his mouth to breathe fire)
    17. Tornado / wind
    18. More suits
    19. Secret exits
    20. Water tiles

And typically the way they achieve is really simple and user friendly.

Fantastic, as a dedicated non creative person I get to have an organised way to play courses, courses made by Ninty, and I can avoid any more automatic levels! Hooray!!

I haven't even beaten the first one. I was saying before that I'm not going to break my gamepad for some 8 bit costume.

Had a look at my Daily Log and it's been about 3 weeks since I've played it and have played 250+ hours. The Expert Mode in 100 Mario Challenge put the brakes on my interest. Most of the levels were infuriating.

Then don't play the expert mode?

If I die twice on a level - unless I know it is an easy level by the looks of it, I just skip to the next one.

2 attempts and quit?! Ah now where's the fun/challenge in that?

    250hours is some achievement sligeach.

I'm happy with the 20hours or so I've managed so far.

So many time constraints in life.

But it can be hard to tell. I pause as soon as I start a level, check how many stars it has per person played. If it's low(say 0/80, see you later) then I most likely skip. But a lot of levels have low numbers of play throughs so you can't tell what it's like. And then sometimes it's only hard at the end and you don't want to give up the 3 lives you've earned while playing. I've unlocked every 8 bit character on easy and normal, so expert is all that's left. I think I've unlocked about 70 of them. I might try getting the new 8 bit characters from the downloadable levels.

Read my quote again and get back to me. Don't tell me how to play the game please..

On your Wii U's homepage there's Daily Log icon that shows you how much you've played every day, every month, and how much you've played each game.

Did a quick check - since getting my Wii U in June 2014 I've put 568 hours into it (compared to 968 hours on the 3DS since 2011).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,983 ✭✭✭✭sryanbruen

I have played 179.06 hours since I got the game.

I fell out of playing this, mostly due to frustration with my own mediocrity.

Are there any levels out there, a sort of Mario Boot Camp, that take you through a series of increasingly difficult challenges to hone your skills? You know, a couple of levels to focus on basic jumping technique and timing, some more complicated combination techniques and then a show-stopper finale where you show off what you've learned? I'm going to pretend it's for my kids but basically, Sligeach broke my spirit and my mind, and I'm ready to have it rebuilt in Mario's image.
