What do people think will happen with the points? Higher, lower or much the same?

Don't see much change points will probably increase though as people who didn't have the money for college during the recession would have the money now. STEM and business will probably go up as per the last few years.

People still don't have money, though, people are not that much better off after these few years of post-austerity. Plus people who can't afford 3rd level generally have to put themselves into an abyss of debt which will still continue. Not being able to afford it doesn't mean people won't bother.

Honestly expect points to go up across the board except in maybe more niche things. UL have switched to have less but more general courses so expect points for those general entries to be ridiculous.

2 week midterm at last and very much needed!!! :D

Got a ridiculous amount of homework to keep me busy plus a s**t ton of revision to get done. Principle gave us a reminder before the end of school of how little time there is before the mocks - something like 8 weeks which is alarming but kinda what I needed otherwise I will probably waste this break thinking there's plenty of time to study, which obviously is not the case.

How are people feeling going into this midterm? :)

    You have a two-week midterm?!
Really I didn't get too much homework for the week, but I do have a heap of revision to do (but I feel like a ton of it will be going towards a HL Maths test I have on the first day back, yaaay...)
I heard someone on the news talking about the ASTI strikes - which my school is affected by - and discussing how it impacts exam-year students, saying that "the mocks are only around the corner" and I was like "No they're bloody not, it's October" ... So that gave me a wake-up call that I need to get my act together NOW haha.

Heading to the cinema to see Dr. Strange tomorrow night. Then planning at least a 2 or 3 day bender across the weekend intertwined with erratic studying and then another house party Thursday night all going well. If I manage even an hour or two of study per day across the break I'll be doing well.

There's been so much scaremongering by the teachers in my school at this stage that it's starting to lose its effect.

I just took today off and didn't do any study or anything. It was well needed but the teachers would wasn't to cop on and be back working after midterm. I can't wait for midterm I'll probably go out way too much but it's been a month since I've gone out and I'll wait until Christmas again to go out after that.

I was planning on doing loads today but it turned out to be very unproductive. I hope I'm not like this for all of the strike days... :(

Dobby is free! I do have quite a lot of homework to get through for the holidays though. It seems every teacher wants us inside for as long as possible

I've had such a lovely relaxed weekend - I decided to give myself this weekend off and not worry about study at all. I'll get stuck into it tomorrow though (I promise :pac:)

Has anyone done the history essay on the developments on home rule from 1870-1886?? Mine is going to be like 12 pages and I don't know how to shorten it?!?!?
Also I've been in the library every day this week and still have barely got anything done just have so much homework :( going out tonight and UCD tomorrow so can't see myself getting much achieved over the weekend either

The first paragraph is background to the issue, set up the story before 1870. After this paragraph anything outside of the time period will not be marked and is a waste of time.

Look at the MAJOR developments. You need to include anything, just enough to fill 4 pages. The last paragraph is a conclusion, summarising your points and saying a bit about what happened afterwards.

The teacher might have given you very detailed notes just remember you don't need to include everything.

Good luck, sorry I can't be more specific but I haven't done that topic

Yeah I'm heading up to UCD, not looking forward to the absolute mayhem that'll be there tbh!

Didn't do much study over the midterm really, did a few maths and applied maths questions and studied a chapter in biology.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 76 ✭✭Nyctolust

Would love to be going to UCD tomorrow, but I don't really have the time or means to, even though I know it's pretty much my only opportunity.
I promised myself I'd do plenty of study over the week, but unexpectedly ended up in a really bad funk before last week even finished so I've only just now mustered up the energy to start all my homework (even more than I thought I had). :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 261 ✭✭carefulnowted

It's kind of odd that UCD are only holding 1 open day. Most other colleges have a couple in the spring and summer as well. Surely a big university like UCD would usually have a good few?

Only just found out that were back to school tomorrow but it's only 6th years. We've the rest of our mid-term tests to do so that's Biology Maths and French tomorrow and a cramming session for tonight 😷
