Would that definitely go down as a Rooney assist?

    I'm doubtful.

Should do, I see no reason why it wouldn't.

Probably going to be asked a thousand times today.

    - In Gameweek 1 you cant view other teams the 'normal' way ie by clicking the team name in the league table until the tables are updated later tonight. Instead to view a rivals team before that, click on the managers name in your league (under where it says 'Players to be added after next points update) then click on gameweek 1 under gameweek history

    .

You can. This confusion happens every GW1.
Go into their team, select 'gameweek History' and click on GW1

You can if you click on their name in a league, then click on "Gameweek 1" right under This Season and you can see current team and points.

The site has crashed as everyone checks to see if Rooney got the assist!

Be raging if Rooney(C) doesn't even get an assist for that. No need to take a touch to set himself up, should have just slotted it in first time

just down as OG no assist given

The BBC commentary don't give me great confidence in a Rooney assist.
Wayne Rooney is one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The skipper gets his feet in a muddle and in an attempt top nick the ball away, Walker only manages to poke it into the net.

He will get the assist, no doubt about it.

If there is no assist then the rules are garbage! That would mean a player could control a ball, go round the keeper, be ready to slot it into an empty net, a defender rushes in and boots it into his own goal and no assist given??

That description gives me even less confidence. Just a common or garden OG. No assist.

    i have Rooney captain.

I don't think it'll be given. He didn't pass or shoot as per the rules, he controlled it.

He passed it to Walker - great vision :)

20 minutes in and we've got:

    - People saying it should be an assist
    - People saying it shouldn't be an assist
    - People panicking over switching the captaincy off Rooney despite there being so much football left this gameweek

    FPL is certainly back!

For a normal assist, the rule is:

'An assist is awarded whether the pass was intentional (that it actually creates the chance) or unintentional (that the player had to dribble the ball or an inadvertent touch or shot created the chance).'

However, for an own goal, it is:

'If a player shoots or passes the ball and forces an opposing player to put the ball in his own net, then an assist is awarded.'

So going by the rules, he probably won't get it. But it's stupid to differentiate between the two.

Austin got an assist that was due to miscontrol last season, lukaku numerous times too. By the history of fpl it should be given but in reality all of these assists are a bit farcical. Like yourself though, I've him captain too so hope it works out!

What I don't understand is that if, say, Mata rather than Walker had put it into the net, it would be a Rooney assist.
