    cat, or cheaper option?

Run Dipetane/Redex through the system and give it an Italian tune up?

Hard to say. On that raw data alone, it looks like it needs an air-filter. I don't think it's a cat problem. What is it?

Rip th bollocks off it, get the combustion temp's good and hot in the engine and keep them hot.

Rip the **** out of it. Burn the carbon out.

    Cataclean can help too.

I would think based on those readings the car is running a bit rich. Probably not burning too much oil because the HC are within the limits. Check for anything wrong that might effect the air fuel ratio. Check for intake leaks, that the air filter is reasonably clean. If all looks good try a good hard drive. If that fails it might possibly need a new O2 sensor. I would be almost sure it won't need a new cat though.

It's a 1 litre corsa b. Yeah I hadn't changed the air filter as I thought it wasn't too dirty. But having checked it since, it was. So I've replaced it. I read somewhere else that a restricted air filter would effect the co more at higher revs than lower revs.

The new filter would help so your probably correct in what your saying about it causing more of an effect at higher revs as even more fuel is going into the engine. Not sure if you know this or not but carbon manoxide CO is simply caused by lack of oxygen during the combustion reaction meaning the reaction can't go to completion ie carbon dioxide CO2. In other words a combustion reaction doesn't want to form CO rather it wants to form CO2 but if the air fuel mixture is wrong then it will have too if the mixture is too rich.

You know them hospital car parks, or any car park for that matter - you roll up, press the button, get your ticket, park up, do your business, come out, pay at the machine, go to the barrier, put in your ticket and go out. When leaving, would you be able to walk to the "in barrier" press the button and get a ticket, run to the cqr and go to the out barrier, put in the ticket and go out for free, seeing as there's 20 minutes free parking?

I'm paying 9 euro a pop for hospital parking, over 60 euro on parking this past few days. If there's any way to "overcome" this, it'd be appreciated!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,719 ✭✭✭Hal1

The ticket needs to be validated. A place I worked in had such a system, and when I started I didn't have my id badge. So one evening when leaving to avoid paying the €14 euro or whatever it was I followed another car to avoid the charge :pac:. There was plenty time to get under the barrier.

I'd imagine you can't as it may need to sense a vechicle there before issuing a ticket but no harm trying. Seems a lot of money on parking alright. I'd probably try and find somewhere else a 5 min walk away.

I know someone that parked in a short stay car park instead of long stay. They followed a car out bumper to bumper and lost an aerial as the barrier came down. This was years ago.

Will the barrier come down on a car if it was to go under I wonder?

Scandalous the amount that parking costs in some places!

Some hospitals do weekly rates if you're going to be in and out a lot, works out an awful lot cheaper plus you can share the ticket too.

Don't most hospitals do deals on parking for a week or whatever for people who are going to be visiting people a lot. I'm nearly sure my parents got a weekly deal when we were visiting my grandmother alot in hospital mind you that's 10 years ago at this stage. Maybe ask at reception or if there is contact numbers on the pay machines worth a try anyway.

Only noticed that weekly thing yesterday. 30 for the week. Think we'll be done on Tuesday so we'll soldier on until then! Happened twice, if it's after 23:30 I think, the machines go out of service, and the barriers stay up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,719 ✭✭✭Hal1

Some of these barrier systems are poorly maintained and can take an age to close. I think it's outrageous that hospitals can extort as much as they do out of people going to visit sick loved ones.

Should pay it imo, the charges go to the hospital and in turn help the patients.

Trying to think of ways to avoid paying a hospital revenue stream is pretty low tbf

Would getting a wedding dress into a Mazda mx5 not be tricky plus would you not rather be driven on your wedding day rather than doing the driving ? Just curious they are certainly a nice car I'm personally not into all these A6, 7 series rental wedding car sh!t I'll just use whatever car I have at the time for it and get someone else to drive it if I do get married of course :) that's just me though.

I've been told the dress won't be an issue. And I always prefer to drive myself :)

I'd like to keep the car after for weekends. We'll be making use of family cars too.

The car must be 1996 or older. I'm looking at mx5s and older MGBs. I doubt I'll get a presentable MG but you never know.
