You finished for college yet? Another day and a half and I'm done TG. Holidays are getting shorter every year, back the 6th of Jan, that's a weds!

Ye finished Thursday I have a day's worth assignment that I need to do ideally tomorrow but it will probably be Monday. I'm not back till the 11th but we were back so early in September I literally got 3 days off between placement and college. I'm looking forward to having a relaxing Christmas. My brother is in LC and finished Tuesday so all the schools must be finishing then.

Ya, they're trying their best to find the days to ensure the quota is filled.

Been looking online for a pair of new runners, can't decide what to pick. Shoes can make such a difference when you're driving. For work I'd have dubarrys or something similar on and they're not that comfy to drive in. Got a pair of Nike Roshes a while back and it's a breath of fresh air to drive when I have them on, it's not like you're pressing the pedals at all! Might get another pair of them.

I'm a big fan of the dubarrys myself I find them grand to drive in but there are nicer too. I bought a pair of clarks shoes during the week and they are very comfy to drive with kind of Soft inserts in them. My biggest issue is with really bulky shoes id struggle driving with them as I'm size 12 work steel cap boots are a disaster so I would have to change in and out of them at the start end of my shift and avoid driving with them.

    Dubes, oh dear lads. :P

If you're looking for driving shoes and want to feel more like a race car driver then something Puma or else Adidas Porsche Design are your best bet!

This has been the cause of many college rows apparently they are not liked by a lot of people. I think they are so comfortable and look well so don't really care about all the hate they get.

They used to be great, then every tom dick and harry farmer lad started wearing them with their jeans which took their credibility away a bit. Anyway, why are we still on about shoes on a motoring thread!

Hopefully the two new mods sort them out :)

Best way to deal with the trolls is to troll the trolls. It gets under their skin!

Found myself an engine mount for €20 on Adverts!

Cheaper than the €250 for a spurious one :pac:

Took me an hour to get the passenger door unlocked this morning. Ended up having to pull the central locking fuse to stop the doors locking until the new lock mechanism arrives. If it gets stuck locked again, the only way to get the door open is by taking an angle grinder to the outer door skin and ripping out the whole mechanism. Fun!

    What's wrong with the mechanism?

I had a car before where the metal stick that goes up and down through the door card got bent and each time the door unlocked it wouldn't go up fully due to the bend and the system would think the door couldn't unlock so it would relock.

Fixed it by bending the stick back. Maybe that's your issue?

Given you can't get at the damn thing without opening the door and removing the outer skin, I'm far less inclined to fiddle with the mechanism than I might be elsewhere in the car so I'd rather just replace it outright.

    Makes sense alright :)

I'm a fan of bodge works myself though :pac:

I don't mean to be a prick or have a go, but would having slightly thicker skin not be a better option? Or maybe even not letting other random people you don't know on an Internet message board bother you that much. It would surely make life a whole lot easier?

Also on the dubes, they're fine if you're from D4 and living in the late 90's I guess. They'd go well with your boot cut jeans. :D

At least you can change just the skin if that happens. Bit of an arse but an option...!

I had no way to dry it up! It'll give a nice sheen to the concrete anyway :pac:

The wiper blades on the Escort were extremely bad. They were old, dry and barely cleaned the windscreen. I went into Euro General shop and saw wiper blades for €1.50, thought I'd give them a try. I assumed there's only 1 blade in the packaging so I took two. Turns out there were 2, so basically €0.75 per blade. :D

Ah well, at least I can replace the rear one too and have one spare.

The whole windscreen wiper operation is different than any other car I've seen too. There are only 2 speed settings (push down for slow speed and push up for fast speed) and when you pull the stalk towards yourself, it doesn't spray water on the windscreen, instead it turns on the rear wiper. :P

Another strange thing is that the doors and fuel cap unlock by turning the key clockwise. :o

Im guessing its the 2.5 litre one? Was that ever in an e36 or was it the e46?
Was that in a z3 too by any chance?

I know this has probably been done before, but the lights on my car aren't the bestest in the world. In terms of brightness, I mean. Either that, or my sight just isn't what it used to be (and I doubt it's that).

My beams are alright. but I find my dipped bulbs, whilst useful, aren't particularly great at illuminating everything.

I know a lot of ye were banging on about those Osram (not sure if i spelt that right) Nightbreakers for a while (although last time I heard them mentioned, people here weren't so keen, so maybe they weren't as good as initially thought) but just wondering if anyone could advise:

    1) Will changing bulbs actually help (without blinding everyone else on the road - though i imagine this has more to do with bulb positioning than power?)
    2) If so, can you recommend a set of bulbs worth getting?
    3) How are they rated? Is it just like normal bulbs? (50 watt, 100 watt, with 100 being twice as bright, etc) (and if so, can I find out what i currently have by looking at the bulbs on the car at the moment).

I'll most likely use MicksGarage as I find Halfords are wildly expensive when it comes to bulbs, and my local motor factors don't seem to have anything other than a bunch of generic bulbs in stock (they can order things, but i'd be just as easy using Micks).

EDIT: all of halfords bulbs that look worthwhile are buy one get one free, which puts them in line with other prices, so if they've anything worth getting I'd go with them.

    Cheers :)

Its a 2.8 from an e46, m50 and m52 are very alike so will fall in straight and then need a few niggles ironed out!
So it's up in capacity and turboed, cannot wait for the first trackday!
