Spoken like a true Tesla groupie.

So the Musik-Mobil don't need tyres, fluids, brake pads, cabin filters and other consumables? Or are they supplied and fitted for free, for those who can't do the work themselves?

I have a 2014 leaf and the app is slow and annoying but always worked eventually……..until now. Usually a sign out and in sorted it, but not this time.

deleted app, re installed, restarted phone etc.

It wont let me select ‘country’ on Home Screen, when I tap it, it’s just blank. App errors out then at please select country.

below is app I use - any ideas?

freaky, I literally just got this mail now from Nissan. (Must be linked with me reinstalling app and trying to re login etc)

looks like the Nissan app will no longer work after April 1st and no alternative. Mine is essentially not working now on Feb 28th. Was a crap app but still very handy. Will really miss it

    Anybody else get this??

No iron in the fire any more but is this the old or new app they are abandoning?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,526 ✭✭✭obi604

Not sure what you mean by old but I think it’s the old app “This will affect Nissan LEAF and eNV200 vehicles produced up until 2016”

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,148 ✭✭✭RainInSummer

Yeah that's the old app and backend platform. Think the new one is nissan connect services.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,203 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Iirc, when I tried to register my Leaf on connect services it said I had to use the Nissan EV app instead.

So does this mean after April 1st the Leaf will work on the Connect Services app?

It also mentions 2016, perhaps cars after that will still work on the old app?

    No idea tbh.

Yeah works fine at the moment, been a few times over the years I had to relog in or even reinstall the app. Other than slow I've found it to be reliable.

From the UK Hevra list of independent ev garages maybe try one of these for the power delivery module.

Yeah, the App I use is called "NissanConnect Services", but I have a 2022 L40. I don't know if the NissanConnect Services app will work with your 2014 Leaf, but I guess there's one way to find out! If it doesn't, then I'd be contacting Nissan to see if they are effectively taking away the App functionality for older Leafs?

I'm far from a Tesla groupie. Look at a lot of the threads, I'm perfectly happy to criticize Tesla when due (like crap customer service, stupid AP updates, crap wipers etc). The majority (2 of 3) EVs I own are not tesla and the favorite EV I have now is my 2011 leaf.

You replace consumables, but servicing is an additional cost and is not required. If you bring a leaf to a main dealer - I did - for work, you can pay for the consumables or you can pay for the consumables PLUS service cost. Service on an EV is check the pollen filter and wash the car!

Specifically, your Tesla warranty is not impacted by not having services carried out, I change my own air filter, look after tyres locally and with the agressive Tesla regen your pads should last 8+yrs.

I had a Leaf too, annual service was €77 from main Nissan dealer excluding air filter and screenwash which I did myself, I had to wait for one of the services, all they did was open the car doors, look around inside and connect up the OBD port, bonnet wasn't even popped

I have the Nissan EV app (nissan connect v3.8.2) and a 171 leaf, and the app is still working for me as of 2 minutes ago

So maybe this app is only being retired for pre 2016 leafs. (I don't know if this is including cars built in 2016)

I thought the 2017 leaf still had a 2g module in it, I also thought 3g was being sunsetted as well, so does this mean newer leafs have 4g modules in them?

Indeed, we have experience on both makes and apart from new tyres at around 50k mark the Model 3 hasn't seen any garage since it was bought in June 2021. I did replace the cabin filters diy once and I guess the next item will be the brake fluid next year. The brakes, and the rest of the car actually, still look pretty much new at 72k.

The 2016 L30 we have won't see any regular maintenance apart from what it needs but the two previous new leafs before the T always needed the mandatory yearly visits to the garage costing €€€ per year and it was a pain and felt pointless to have to do it, imo. Most of the legacy marques really milk it like with the coolant changes, firmware updates and biyearly brake fluid flush. With Nissan it's a big form ticking excercise at sky high prices.

Actually now that you mention it, it was the hassle also, with no main dealer in our town it was always a half day off work to get it done

Seems its not really the app but the car is the problem in this case. Pre-2016 Leaf's obviously have an older SIM module that wont work when 2G is disabled and so the car cant communicate anymore.

I'd imagine the App will continue for the newer cars.

Remote heating control and seeing the current charge level is handy so that would be a loss for alot of current owners.

yeah, I will definitely miss it, I used it a lot, pity

On 1st gen Leafs, if the car is plugged in at home, will it power the heater if pre-heating the car in the morning? Once it's plugged in to charge, the blue indicator lights flash until it's fully charged. So if preheating in the morning, is it powering it from the charger? Or using the battery?

  • Registered Users Posts: 21,639 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

I found on the leaf where I had a heat pump, it powered the heat pump from the plug, however on my current 2011 leaf with PTC heater, it simply powers the fan by the mains because it can't draw enough power through the 3kW OBC to run the ptc heater

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,748 ✭✭✭Bawnmore

Ah that'd make sense - we've a 2012 with PTC heater and I've tried it a few times and it never warmed up, only blew air. That helps to clarify things - cheers.

Anyone with an L40 SVE care to comment on ownership? Half thinking about getting back into the Leaf world.

It seems from a mail I had from Nissan support, there is more to it than dropping the Carwings app, as far as I have been able to work it out, as I never got it working when we bought the car recently, there is a G2 Sim card built in to the vehicle, and they are shutting down the whole system, as mobile companies are shutting down the G2 mobile services, so Nissan connect won't work on these vehicles, and if I am reading it right, this will also mean that things like the charger updates and related information will also no longer be updated. It also means that remote access to turn on the heating won't be available, which given that it's only a 24Kw battery, I wanted to be able to use from the charger power lead, rather than depleting the battery and range.

I'm also not sure what else will be affected, we've not had any way to see what the online side of it can do, or not do, as we couldn't connect to the Nissan connect system at all, and the message I got this morning is effectively 'tough, we're abandoning you, with no alternatives, suck it up', which I'd have to say doesn't greatly impress me.

I will have to go digging around to see if there's any way to get a mobile phone to connect to the dash display so that it can at least be used as a sat nav, the database in the car is so out of date it's not funny, but it's looking like a significant chunk of the other dash system is effectively being abandoned, but as we've not been able to use the remote services since we got the vehicle, I'm not sure yet just how much we're losing out on.

I suspect that upgrading the dash system to the later (2016 up) system is likely to be a major hassle, but I don't know enough yet, we've not had the vehicle a month yet, the one redeeming feature is that we didn't pay stupid money for it, but I wasn't expecting Nissan to be quite so cut throat about support. I don't have the skill set to reverse engineer the software that's in the nav system, I have to wonder if it would be feasible or possible to find ways around the G2 system, but I don't know enough about it to be able to make an informed decision.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

I moved from an L24 SVE to L40 in the last year. I have 0 regrets and they're great value now... of course you'll hear the nay-sayers comment about the fact it has Chedamo and not CCS and its being phased out but that's not really an issue for me at least as I do all my driving in the city and charge at home (with the odd long trip here and there)

The car is really comfortable, has android and apple play and is nice to drive. The only negative I have is the arm-rest... its really uncomfortable and digs into my elbow but I just retrofitted a longer one for e100 so that issue is gone.

The 4 years old, has 70kms on it and battery is still on full bars... not sure what the actual SOH is though - I think it was on 93%ish last time I checked. I'll be keeping mine for a few years anyway - dont think youll get better for the money tbh

You'd think that some third party would come up with a replacement for the 2G module - simple enough, in theory...

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.

Nissan didn't give a shíte about the cars 10 years ago. They certainly don't give a shíte now. Getting support for the APP was worse odds than getting a Taxi home from Temple Bar on a Saturday night.

For those interested, you can connect a device to give you android auto or apple car play on the screen of the L24. Youtube it

It's not just Tesla to be fair, no EV requires the servicing that the main dealer gives you. I get mine checked by a local guy every year

Last time my leaf needed pads and brake fluid it was €100 from him, cabin filters are about €15 and are easy to fit

Tyres are the main thing in fairness

I live in Limerick, local trips are fine, long distance you're better off renting a car for the day

Last time I went to Dublin I had to charge in portlaoise Plaza, the Lidl in portlaoise and pulled into applegreen birdhill with 5% battery and the chademo was out of order - since been removed. Not a great experience

For the twice a year I'm doing Dubin day trips I just rent a car and the leaf is perfect for the rest of the year
