About 2-3 weeks too early for winter ai. Too many winter farmers calving too many cows too early and thus diluting their bonus'.

I wonder are they copping on or just not serving as a response to poor winter bonus.

Numbers.calving in autumn back down this side going off talking to vets and haulier. Haulier called for calves here Mon would normally have a good few fr most weeks this time of year but last two/three years numbers dropping, all he had this week was 5 hex amd my own fr bulls explains why calves are going ok in mart too with numbers possibly being that bit scarcer

Why doing it twice? We used to only do it in the morning. Lic aye?

Lic testing farm for Kiwi-Cross semen so they insist on am/pm testing.

In all fairness was the quickest and cleanest herd tests we've done so far, stressed out over nothing.

Bulls arrived this morning, going in the herds on Saturday.

6 weeks AI, will be last day tomorrow. Bulls out for 4 weeks and have 5 Hereford crosses and 10 Kiwi-Crosses in total. Looked like fine animals following down the race anyway. Time will tell though.

What dry cow tubes do ye use? I priced cepravin but they are a crazy price €1.96/tube. What's the best value for 60 days dry?

95cent for normal boviclox tubes. Think the withdrawal only 45days though.

Only serving 2 young cows here for next autumn. All other empties getting shown the door. All this year's autumn calvers getting pushed around until may. Late spring calvers should just about fill my January liquid quota. The aim is not to go one litre over it tho, as I have zero bonus on the Jan or Feb surplus milk.

48 cows to each bull, 15 over 730. Running in two teams so we can swap them every 5-7 days hoping to keep lameness to the bare minimum. So in the herds it'd be around 1 bull to 30 cycling cows possibly. Hard to say but would expect about 210 to be cycling still maybe.

Anyonw else get the form for the latest glanbia fixed price scheme.

The nuts they have for the fixed feed element dont seem too cheap.

Anyone using the 19 listed and if so do you have the full ingredient list . They only give the first 3 on the brochure.

Looking at it for the price they're charging I think those are the three ingredients.

Last pre Christmas calf just dropped. BB something. Everyone ok so left them to it. I was certain cow was in calf to ho but then again I had her due three weeks ago. Disappointing in a way as she's for the ramp asap. Only held her hoping to get a heifer calf as she's one of the last of her line from the old herd.

Didnt get the list, we are buying from them through group, currently on 18% cows are milking well at the minute, milk didnt drop or anything when I changed from previous supplier. Good ingredients in the 18% we are on anyway.

A few of the lads in our group buying maize balancer, costing 70 euro more / tonne than 18% nut  is there a need for it?

A half a kg of soya would be cheaper and more bang for your buck than 1kg of balanver

Looking at the scheme I reckon to get any litres at all from it, you need to take up the feed option aswell.
They must have a nice bit of milk available because with them linking it as 1.5 ton of feed for 5000 litres of fixed milk they should at least be thinking of allocating 25,000 plus litres a supplier, would be madness on their part if they went giving 5,000-10,000 litres a supplier and then having to put a lorry on the road blowing in 1.5-2 ton loads of nuts would cost them a fortune in haulage

I'd have Prefered leave them at 16 but dad wanted to try this. Tbf there milking well and holding condition well too. 1 or 2 a day bulling aswell
