There was no change in points for second round for NUIG last year unfortunately!

  • Registered Users Posts: 11 Burgerking19

Does anyone know when the bell curve and stats for this years hpat will be released? Trying to scramble any hope I can that NUIG points will drop to 2014 levels

I got 176 which is 86th percentile. Do you think I'm in with a chance??

Depends where you've applied to and what you get in the LC. If it was last year and say you got 550 points, you would've gotten into NUIG and maybe scraped into UCC. Hopefully you've done a good LC and you have a chance then.

Just wondering for medicine in NUIG, when do you select if you want to do premed or not (provided I get my points)?

They will offer you either 5 or 6 year course, if they offer you the 5 year course you can write them a letter begging them to put you into premed (make the excuse you feel you aren't ready for 1st med etc, they seem to be quite accommodating to this). It is an awful lot harder to get into first med if offered premed though, I haven't heard of anyone that managed to do that without serious reason such as they have already done a year of Biomed.

EDIT: If at all possible try to do premed. Unless you're a hermit, it'll be the best year of your life.

No places became available at all in NUIG, UCD, RCSI or TCD last year in the second round!
    http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/cao-big-demand-hits-round-2-college-places-350478.html
It made Round 2 offers online at 6am and only 11 medical school places are being offered, all of them at University College Cork.

If you do a really good LC then you're still in with a chance! Don't go changing CAO or anything

I only got in the 33rd percentile so 139 so I'm very disappointed. I was wondering if people sometimes do a course like say I do nursing and repeat the Hpat next year and then can you say transfere course if you do well? Do fees apply or is that even possible? Does anyone know 😔😔 I just don't really want to take a year out

I asked a similar question a few weeks ago you can have a look on this thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057608725

If you find out anything about the fees let me know cause I'm wondering about this too!

Is it unusual for section 3 to be someones worst section because I only got a 50 in that section?

Wow, there's a big drop in the 100% I hope that means something good for us!

The 100%ile is always a scattering of randomly good scores, essentially anything over 200 last year as so few are considered 100%ile, so it's a wide range each year. Also bear in mind that if this year's value is derived from the graph it's not accurate as last year it didn't display my friend's score of 239 because of scaling. SIDE NOTE OP: 239 is the top result of 2015 :)

So basically the drop in the top result (so far) means close to nothing sorry :( luckily the trend seems to say points will be pretty bang on last year and won't increase really!

Nope section 3 is genuinely considered the "toughest"/least intuitive if you go into the exam blind. However it's easy enough to learn techniques so that it can be improved, particularly for students who do courses/grinds. This is why the weighting changed to 20% instead of 33% as Acer determined too many people were unfairly benefiting from the points gained in this section via grinds.

This only applies to colleges with premed:
If, after 1 year of college, you get the points for medicine you will have the opportunity to skip premed and move into 1st med if your first year degree had similar course content (e.g biomed/science/physio/nursing). There is a quota for the amount of students who can skip premed and it's dependent on 1st year grades, but if you skip premed you do not miss free fees. If you are made do premed you will have to pay full fees (~9,000) for that year and then you will have free fees again for the subsequent years.

Did my Leaving Cert last year and repeated the hpat. I've 721 points now so a bit short - anyone think there's any possibility/reason points could go down this year when compared to last?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1 Martin147

Hi, I went down points after repeating my Hpat.. Does anyone know do I have to use my new results or can I use my old ones?

Has anybody ever heard of Hpat results going up after being rechecked?

Am I sensing a trend with our names? And you definitely have a chance, I have to get 575 in the leaving just to scrape Galway. If you think the leaving went well at all you're probably sorted.

I don't think they recheck results as they are calculated by computers which are never meant to make mistakes according to Hpat!
