I think the collectors edition is a real gimmick. Definitely going to pass on that. If the map is about the size of GTA 5 I won't be too disappointed, although I did expect it to be gargantuan considering the development time.

Did Bethesda give that figure of 3x Skyrim's map? (I genuinely missed that)

I don't know if it is official but I have seen it quoted in a number of places but I dont ever remember seeing an official source.

Fair enough - I had seen a few sites go with "twice Skyrim" myself, but again nothing official.

Going to play Fallout 1 tonight I think. Got reccomended to install the 'fix' http://www.nma-fallout.com/showthread.php?194562-Fallout-Fixt-alpha-7-1-April-4th-2015

Anyone got experience with that? It seems to mostly just be bug resolution change, as well as text clean-up. But I don't want to install it if ya'll think I should experience the original dankness.

Edit: Nvm, went with "purist" install. Didn't change anything story related, only fixes n' such. Off I go :D

Just read a completely unsubstantiated rumour on another site claiming they're doing another batch of collector editions, such was the demand. Apparently they've become available again for pre-order with some US retailers. Would make sense given how quickly they sold out, but watch this space I suppose.

It is on their facebook page that pipboy edition is available again for a short time

Edit, seems to be US and Canada only, info about Europe to follow later

Glad I got my order before gamestop sold out. Guarantee more will be available soon Huge amount of demand.

Go GAME in the UK. Great job ... as always you cretins. Sole stockist for UK customers, but no restrictions on how many copies a customer can order. Well that one went about as well as expected as I now see the pre-sales being hawked on ebay for upwards of £100.

And to think this is the company that almost went to the wall a couple of years ago. *sigh*

Excuse the crude photoshop but wouldn't this be a better use of development time than a gimmick phone app and hunk of plastic?

More games should make use of extra monitors like this. Supreme Commander did it best.

Use Bluestacks android emulator on your second screen running the 'gimmick phone app' and you have what you want.

Bluestacks is terrible (last I used it) and native support is worlds better than roundabout ways to achieve the effect. For example, you'd need to alt-tab out of the game to interact with the app (or pick up your phone) which can cause the game to jitter in framerate, might not auto-pause it and is also an issue for fullscreen. If it was native you could just press tab or whatever the gamepad button for the PB is and and move your mouse to it or it would auto move there and pause the game like how the PB usually works... assuming it functions the same way. That goldeneye watch effect is a bit dated now (I still love it, though).

Borderless window is your solution. Sure, native support would be better but where there's a will there's a way. Also, the app & gadget works for the broader public, not just PC gamers.

Does Fallout historically even have border-less windowed? Or Bethesda games? And you'd still need to alt-tab which has all the previous problems I mentioned.

Phones being used with games more is great although I've seen few good uses of it. It's just a shame since it actually takes more effort to design an app and release it on multiple platforms with game syncing abilities than it does just to enable another display device already attached to the system that's playing the actual game. I think their priorities are off. Then again, we know how little they focus on PC release. They'll have garbage coming out of the DualShock 4 speakers before they have useful multi-monitor functions like this. Just wanted to share a concept picture for discussion sake.

I do agree with you however. More games SHOULD make more use of multi display support.

I'll reserve judgement on the android app until I get to use it myself. I have high hopes for it!

New Vegas had borderless option, but bizzarly you still had to alt and tab to access other monitor

That's standard, no? Otherwise your mouse would leave the game! Bordesless is nice on that out makes your game not become such a screen hog. It's treated like other windows, things can be moved over it and alt tabbing doesn't refresh your screen so no black screen for a moment. Linux handles all games like this from what I've seen. On steam, bringing up the overlay even in full screen allows you to mouse away to other monitors.

Very few games support it and even less do it correctly. Many will match the framerate of any movement happening on other monitors.

If course the benefits are still very much there for single monitor use. I always thought consoles would be better if they minimised the game screen to a small box on the corner when you bring up their menus instead of an overlay. A choice would be nice.

Windows key and Arrows move you to the other screen without alt tabbing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,878 ✭✭✭Robert ninja

^ That just moves my windows around... It's a thing I use often. Or are you pitching an idea?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,452 ✭✭✭✭The_Valeyard

Think it depends on the game. In Arkham knight the borderless option lets me ove mouse to the second screen and do what I have to do there, open a vid, website, etc. The game auto pauses. Very handy. No screen flicker or blackness.

Often use that option for strategy games like civ5, eu4, etc

The size of the Pip Boy's phone cavity (so without any foam) is 141.2mm x 71.6mm x 10.2mm. So I guess that's your maximum supported phone size.

The Pip Boy edition is supposed to be back up for pre-order on GAME sometime this morning. As it happens, it's up on GameStop's site right now. GO! GO! GO!

It's up for pre-order for UK/ROI customers (one per customer) "later this morning" They've been coy about an actual time though. It's available in-store to pre-order although all stores have a set amount of stock assigned to them but you're paying £40 deposit rather than £20 online.

Got mine in my local; no queue because ... lets face it ... nobody in Rotherham owns a PC. I heard the guy saying to the one guy in front of me in the queue (as it were) that they had been allocated 18 copies regardless of what system it was for. Also needed a loyalty card to pre-order. I'm guessing that's to restrict sales to one per customer.

All this f*cking about though; GAME have been quite shoddy and handled the whole matter in a farcical manner; the amount of disinformation being tweeted by their stores was bonkers.
