I'm off work today so have plenty of time to catch up on this thread ...... man it moves fast. I see from a few other posts that I'm not the only one having unusual dreams about the Marathon. I've spent the last few nights dreaming that we all had to complete a pre marathon online test based on everything we have learnt over the last few months on this thread, once we past the test we then had to go out and run 20 miles in super fast time.... and we could only do both the test and run this weekend.
....just thought I'd share here, ..... if I told anyone else they would thing that I'm off my rocker!!!!!

And when are you going to do your super fast 20, Saturday or Sunday????

Yikes, sorry to hear that smash. I can't advise anything sorry, except do what physio has advised. Can you call him/her over the weekend?
Above all, listen to your body and know when you need to pull back and run another day......

+1 but if stretching the quads helps I would hit them with the foam roller too. Same with the hammers. Take it handy over the weekend and fingers crossed it will be alright on the night!!

Engol, fair play running in xeroshoes! I tried the Five Fingers for a while and found them great but figured with longer distances I'd prefer to go back to something with more padding.
Also someone stole the suitcase they were in, I never got it back but karma being sweet I'd have loved to see their face when they happened across some very smell running gear!

Thanks whoops, if my head gets any bigger I'll be able to float around the marathon :D

Best of luck to everyone runing their first marathon

This time last year, I was in your shoes (and the year before, but I got injured)

It's probably going to be very tough for the last hour or so on Monday but it's well well worth it for the buzz you'll have over the weekend and for a couple of days after the race and because as soon as you cross the finish line, the difficulty is all forgotten and you'll already be thinking about next year and wishing you could do it again in a week - especially when the post marathon blues hits you from about Wednesday and this thread starts dying away.

And huge congratulations to DG. I didn't think it would be easy to match what Ososlo and Career_Move did mentoring this thread as long as I've been here over the last couple of years but DG has made it look easy! I don't think any of last years' other novices could have done the same top job!

    You're all gonna love it!

Awwww thanks LM! Best of luck to you too, you're in cracking form! See you on the other side :)

Just wanted to drop in and wish everyone on here the best of luck for Monday! Been reading this thread for ages so feel like I know you all at this stage. I'm sure you'll all smash ur goals!
As a newbie to running I've no useful advice, but absolutely in awe of the dedication that it must have taken to get this far. Can't wait for the reports on Monday evening!!!

well thats it, 2 miles easy done, last run of the training plan, 557.17 miles in the bag over 18 weeks, hundreds of tears lots of emotion and self doubt, but millions of great miles and laughs and comradery......can we do it ..... YES WE CAN :D:D:D:D

I've never posted on this thread before (I'm not a novice and my advice wouldn't really be up to the quality and technical standard of some of the other contributors), but know a few of you either through boards, st annes parkrun or otherwise. I wanted to take this opportunity to wish you all well, especially if this is your first marathon or indeed your first Dublin Marathon.

Dublin is special, it was the first one I ever did back in 2008 (2015 is my 5th Dublin) and in my opinion it holds its own with any other ones I've done so far. Savour every moment, drink in the air on Monday morning, enjoy all the crowd support, explore parts of Dublin you may not have seen before - certainly not on closed roads! Take a moment before you start to take account of where you are, the work you've done to get here and how fortunate we all are to get the opportunity to run.

The mentored novices thread is absolutely top notch and with the advice dished out here over the past few months, you are well positioned to enjoy Monday and achieve your goals. I wish I had a resource like this to put me in as good a position as I was approaching DCM 2008.

Best of luck again - for any of you targeting 3:30, I'm one of the pacers so please introduce yourself.

Otherwise, might see some or all of you in the pub afterwards!

    Jamie

Not sure I mentioned this but a friend of mine texted me this week to say she would be cheering me on at the marathon. I asked would she be willing to meet me at mile 18 to give me supplies and she said yes! I'm so relieved and grateful!

In other news, I've started checking off things from my checklist. Topped up my leap card and have my racing gear in the laundry. ID and Registration letter are safely tucked in my bag for the expo tomorrow.

Now I can have dinner and relax for the evening. :D

5 miles rec/6x100m strides done this evening.
A really enjoyable run this evening, the legs feel fantastic, i was bouncing down the road. Maybe there is something in this tapering lark:), saying that i will probably have 10 niggles tomorrow and will be on the phone to my physio every hour.
Jake jrs soccer match is off in the morning so i hope to get to the expo early tomorrow.

Job done. That was the easy part. Now we have to run it :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,566 ✭✭✭Gillo

Thats the last run done, 2.3 miles, it went really well although my left hip starting getting a bit stiff, literally the exact point where it changes from torso to leg if that makes sense.
I'd planned to walk into the RDS from town tomorrow it's about 2.5 miles but I'll see how the hip is in the morning.

Time to start getting stuff ready and ticking off that "To do" list.

I should have added, thanks so much to the mentors and indeed everyone else for the advice and answering my many questions over the last few week's or so, this thread has been a massive resource. Not just the resource of information but the camaraderie has been amazing.
    Now just two challenges left;
    1; a sub 4:30
2; convince the two lads I'm running with that we're going to McGrattans
