In general IAG's aim is likely to just to use regional airports (of which it would include Cork) as a funnel into LHR for any onward connectivity. So, Aer Lingus has become a lot less useful for anyone wanting to use alternative hubs like AMS or CDG.

Air France-KLM is basically IAG's European arch nemesis, so you're not going to see much love lost between them.

what’s interesting is that I’m looking at flights on klm website that are sending me to LHR with Aerlingus first, then onto AMS with KLM and then onto my final destination. So it seems like they still have some form of interlining agreement with IAG

Heathrow is such a bad airport for connecting from here though compared to Schiphol.

That’s what they’re using now. My reference to the smaller aircraft referred to the time when KLM first started serving Cork in 2020. Back then, the Embraer 170/175 was the primary aircraft being used by KLM.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

It depends where you're connecting to tbh. I've found it really good for flights into Asia. Schiphol's OK, but it just depends on the price etc.

CDG's fine too, but you can just never be entirely confident that it won't have some weird strike action going on, especially during the summer.

I'd love to see a connection into Madrid, if you could combine it with high speed rail tickets, you can get to so many interesting parts of Spain very easily. Not that pricy anymore either with the competition on the lines.

I usually use Schiphol for my flights to Asia. It being one terminal makes it a lot easier (only annoyance is the Cork flight being a bus stand).

If you were going non Schengen to Schengen there, it looks worse.

Heathrow and CDG have the issue of multiple terminals and needing to transport in between and then you have extra security checks/border control at Heathrow when travelling out of Ireland/UK

The webpage seems to have been pulled. And the flights are still not yet on sale, concerning.

Must be close to 40,000 extra seats this winter from AF/KLM group!

Somehow this has made it all the way to RTE news.

Ryanair has reduced Cork to Edinburgh flights from 10pw to 8pw this winter, with the Wednesday flight gone.

Cork to Alicante also gone from 5pw to 4pw.

It’s backwards they seem to be going now ex Cork.

Any word on what's happening with the alleged Prague and Geneva flights?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 183 ✭✭TheBrownBird32

An official announcement is next week according to a poster on Airliners net

I suppose best way to look at it to compare to last winter in which case both are +1? It's a bit strange alright though how long its been since they've had a new route, but the other side of it is maybe it gives other airlines some room to grow which is good

Thanks. Is that a reliable source usually? I'm not familiar with them.

Aren't winter frequencies generally less than summer ones? I wouldn't see reductions during off peak as a downgrade in services if the demand isn't there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 183 ✭✭TheBrownBird32

Not exactly true. Last few years Ryanair have had more flights to the Canaries in the winter than in summer. LPA is 2x weekly in winter, 1x in summer. TFS is 5x in winter vs 3x in summer.

This winter now we will lose Venice, I’m fairly sure LPL is down a flight compared to last winter too, and BGY which up until a few weeks ago was also scheduled to run.

yes exactly. I saw something about Italian visitors to Ireland being down 30% in last 12 months compared to year before. Might explain it

Noticed when you search Cork to Paris flights on December 30th and 31st, they now show as Sold Out. They didn’t previously, the booking system only said flights began on the 30th but nothing was there. Interesting

They’re now on sale, GVA every Saturday from December 20, PRG every Thursday and Sunday from October 23

That's a great addition, a welcome change than the usual sun holiday destinations.

That's 4 new Aer Lingus routes announced since Ryanair announced their last new route in December 2023!

    Hi All,

I bought tickets for an event in Paris the Wednesday of the mid term break a couple of weeks ago, after seeing that I could day trip over and back. I went to buy flights and I see there are no cork beavais flights on that day.

Long story short, does anyone know if a) the schedule drastically changed in the last two weeks, b) schedule didnt change but my desired flights are now simply sold out c) im losing my mind, or d) i made a massive boo boo??

    29th October btw

Schedule probably changed. Flight wouldn't be sold out.

BS from O'Leary. Nothing is being "moved". Same number of based aircraft as previous winter.

O'Leary likes headlines and he knows well that that will garnish a reaction.

All he means is -"we want lower fees".
