There has to be something filling in those extra TFS gaps surely, even if it is just putting the flights back on sale with different departure times. I highly doubt EI would willingly flush away a load of money just like that

It actually looks like every Saturday and Tuesday from 29 Nov until the 23rd. Aimed at Xmas markets maybe?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 183 ✭✭TheBrownBird32

You’re right. The Tuesday flights are only €26 at the moment, absolute steal lol

Aerlingus board is saying they are going to announce a new winter route for an airport outside of Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 183 ✭✭TheBrownBird32

Looks like that’s just going to be Dublin - Tromso. I think you misread “One not served from Dublin”.

Presuming this means that EI or FR will operate TUI’s flights for S26?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 67 ✭✭whispering1

Yes . Corfu will probably go . Salou , Lanzarote and Palma were the other places they had flights too. People liked the large luggage allowance with them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 183 ✭✭TheBrownBird32

I could see EI swiping up Corfu like they did with Bordeaux. Early days yet

Aer Lingus just announced Prague and Geneva as new winter routes

Thanks to the poster in the EI forum for the heads up

Wow that's great! I think Prague in particular will do really well out of Cork. Not yet bookable, but hopefully soon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,063 ✭✭✭✭titan18

Geneva should do well in the winter season as it's the best airport to fly into for a lot of ski resorts in the French alps.

Prague will be interesting too, it's a nice city

Aer Lingus seem to be passing Ryanair out for New Routes out of Cork.

    3 AL aircraft based for the winter - 2 x A32N and 1 x A320

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,820 ✭✭✭snotboogie

Thats not an increase right, just upgrading 1 or 2 based to Neo? Seems there is space for more announcements with AMS gone for the first time this winter season?

Holy crap! City breaks! Great news. Even better that it's Aer Lingus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 857 ✭✭✭omicron

Geneva will almost certainly be one flight on a Saturday for ski holidays.

Prague I'm not sure but based on what they've done in Munich it might well be just for Christmas markets and not the whole season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,802 ✭✭✭Acosta

I see. I take it that the Geneva flight is a proper EI route, and not one that you need to book through a travel agent, like the Salzburg flight?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,015 ✭✭✭revelman

I used the Salzburg flight twice and booked online through TUI website (flights only option). Very easy and bags were included.

Starts end ot October for Prague so hopefully it's a regular route. Will be interesting what days they fly though and the times.

Prague still not bookable, hopefully it'll pop up soon. Very keen to see prices/flight times etc.

If it's a success for the Winter then I can't see why Aer Lingus wouldn't keep it all year round. Surely would be very popular at any time of the year.

KLM have added a 3rd daily flight!!!!!! Starting 26th October

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 183 ✭✭TheBrownBird32

355,000 passengers last month, gotta be the busiest month ever?

A chance August could see 400k passengers now too!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 183 ✭✭TheBrownBird32

Probably won’t be bookable until next week, still no media reports.

I have a feeling it will be in the S26 schedule because why would it start in the last week of S25?..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,793 ✭✭✭✭ACitizenErased

3 flights a day with KLM is brilliant news.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,820 ✭✭✭snotboogie

Thats 10 extra flights per week across the winter season between AirFrance and KLM. What were Aerlingus on for AMS last winter? Was it 12 flights pw? Obviously Aerlingus used the A320 at 175 passengers vs KLM using the E195 at 135 pax and AirFrance using the E190 at 100 pax but overall it seems like a lot of the lost capacity has been made up very quickly on similar routes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,007 ✭✭✭lordleitrim

Out of interest, why did EI pull the AMS route if it was very popular? Why wouldn't they be getting decent margins from it? Is it just that KLM offers the better seamless onward connections and that what most pax went for?

Aer Lingus used to operate the route in cooperation with KLM, who have their main hub at Amsterdam. This allowed passengers to book connecting flights to any KLM destination via AMS through either Aer Lingus or KLM. This relationship started to fall apart after Aer Lingus was taken over by IAG and eventually, the KLM/Aer Lingus codeshare agreement was terminated, causing EI to lose all of the transfer passengers going through AMS. At the same time, KLM started serving Cork with their own aircraft.

Thing is, KLM can easily fill an Embraer with mostly connecting traffic, given that the smallest aircraft in their fleet has a capacity of 70-80 seats. However, Aer Lingus was now faced with the situation of having to fill an A320 with 175 seats purely with non-connecting passengers, whilst also operating into an airport (AMS) that is severely capacity constrained. That was never going to be a fight that they were going to win. And personally, I find the added connectivity provided by KLM to be a far bigger asset for Cork than an Aer Lingus flight with little or no onward connection possibilities.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

Wish KLM were offering that 3rd flight a day sooner. Flying out on 21st October and don't particularly like the connection time as if there's any issues, doubt my bag is making it

KLM are using a mix of the E190 and E195, the latest announcement seems to indicate using the E195 on all morning flights. The E190 has 100 seats and the E195 has 130 seats on the Cityhopper configurations. Certainly smaller than the 175 on an Aerlingus A320 but significantly more than 70-80 seats as well.
