have you ever been insured before and are you looking to be insured as a named driver or on your own car?

Also do you have a budget?

I'd suggest reading the post again. The answer is clearly no :pac:

It'll be expensive no matter what, ring every company and broker

If you are expecting to get insured on your own with a learner permit it will be around 4-5k

Hey Im mentioned in there :D

Anyhow, you really have to go online and get as much online quotes you can. Then, call the insurance company themselves to try get down the price and let them know of the cheapest quote you got as they may try to match it or do better. MAKE SURE YOU GIVE THE CORRECT INFORMATION!!

Trying to get motor insurance for the first time will be hard and very expensive. It also depends on what kind of car you have - a friend of mine is 17 and bought his own Peugeot 206 and insurance was €2500 for him.

Certainly is. Last year I went to go buy my own car - 17 yo, provisional and no experiece - wouldve cost me €5500 on a '02 Toyota Corolla!!

Basically the OP would be very lucky to get a quote of under €2500 imo.

If you live on a farm put your occupation as farm labourer. Will knock a bit off your quote.

It will most likely be the same

I don't believe anyone who claims they got it for 800

I have my full licence and 1 yr experience as a named driver and I havent seen a quote of under €1800.

It actually cost me €800 to get insured on my parents car last year!

She got a very good deal if its true :)

We have our farm, house, and 3 cars with FBD at the moment and Im still getting ridicolous quotes from them since im so young and taking out car insurance for the first time.

Although FBD gave the best price last year when I was getting insured on my parents car.

Waiting til you are 18 will make no difference I'm 25 and still in or around 1200 for the year With full licence.

What do you drive?! I'm 24 y/o male with a 2.2 litre and mine's €1000 flat. You should surely be cheaper than that.

€800 on their own policy at 18? Honestly no chance of it. I paid over €3000 last year at 17 on a permit. Depending on car an other factors I'd say your looking around the same. Unless your willing to go with someone like boxymo. Its monitored driving with a limited milage policy. May suit some but wouldn't be my cup of tea

In the long run? You're not marrying them, only buying insurance for one year at a time. You can change every single year if you like.
