thinking of alad who played for abbeyside . i know he wast knocking about the panel in the fitz era derek had no interest , minds gone blank now .

told me he was 27 few months ago i spotted him in flyefit giving it socks if that helps

Richie Foley? If it's him he's living and working in Dublin so very unlikely altogether. Can't think of any other Abbeyside player around that age that was involved? Richie would be 29 or so now I think.

Kill/Fenor are the biggest joke of a club if thats even what they are, Joining up to win Junior championships, They couldn't win any when they were on their own, they have a pick of about 50 players at the moment and they'll still win nothing worth talking about, If anyone tells you they joined up because they were both stuck for numbers its bulls**t, they are fielding four teams at the moment, If they get to any final this year (Which i highly doubt they will) go in and have a look at the numbers they have you'd swear it was St. Vincients or someone arriving.

On the transfer front all this swapping clubs within Waterford is a joke, We are like a Soccer league.

TBH unless we win the AI 2017 will be a letdown as will every other season until we finally win it for me, We have the squad to win an AI yes we're still behind Tipp but everybody else is either below or on par with us, people will say KK are above us but i don't think they are atm certainly their squad depth isn't better then ours, We've suffered so much heartbreak down the years that winning a Munster title won't be much consolation if we fail to win the AI. We're getting better no doubt about that, in 2015 KK beat us with a bit to spare in 2016 we pushed them to the brink and should have beaten them in the first game i believe we will be better again in 2017. Tipp of course will be the most difficult challenge but i believe if we play to our max we are capable of beating them.

I'd be wary of playing Galway in a knockout game tbh. I knw we have a 100% championship record over them but on there day there a match for anyone and are a dangerous side to be up against

Some mite disagree with me but Its turning into an exciting time for hurling as a lot of teams are improving, have the right Management in place (apperntly there were rumblings in a lot of intercounty camps between management and players in the last few years in Clare, Limerick, Wexford etc) and the fear of playing Kilkenny is gone

#Waterford v limerick played well for the first 25 mins, all the forwards played in their position. Next 10 mins played 1 inside the 45

Good to see a lot of new members to the senior team

These lads are out to impress so we could do well in this comp. Good to see Dj Foran with the goal

Disappointed to hear the news that a former county minor is to join Mount Sion from his native Passage East hurling club.
His Grandfather was a late great of the Mount Sion club, the young lad of eighteen summers was brought up a passage man an they done a great job getting him to where he is now.
I dont like to see clubs swooping in like this on talented country lads.
A club brings a lad to a level and then a so called bigger club comes in an takes them.
How many times will we see this happen with nothing done to protect the clubs who put in the hardwork.

If any player wants to leave a club there should be a 12 month playing ban on them before they can line out for their new club. See how much they want it then no hurling/football for a year.

The player in question is Donal Power. The Mount Sion executive were notified that the player had a wish to come to mount sion given the family history.
There was no so called ' swooping ' as you call it. And given the fact that passage have been in more county finals recently and probably currently a better team, your point of moving to a ' big club ' doesn't really make sense.
I do agree with your points that a lot of transfers happen too easy and I'll admit as a club before, it has happened, but in this case there was no approach, no chasing or anything. Just to set the record straight.

Sorry we obviously have our wires crossed here, if you thought i was calling Mount Sion a bigger club.
I was talking in general about transfers there i certainly didnt mean that ye were swooping.
If "ye" is even correct way of addressing this matter, i am guessing by your message your a Mount Sion club member.

What really grinds my gears is when the small rural club's have their pockets picked. Which is why i think the transfers need to be addressed. The current state of our transfers is a joke lets be honest.

Personally i believe no one should leave their club unless they have been forced to move away from home but a player from say Ferrybank Passage Portlaw makes zero sense joining a city club, it can have a terrible effect on the club they are leaving.
Take Ballyduff lower as a perfect example the time they lost a few players they ended up Junior thankfully all back now an their back intermediate.

I will always admire Dave Bennett for him living in the city an then he continued with Lismore even though he couldn't of been blamed for joining Ballygunner he made the journey up an down the road and thats the real GAA thing to do.

Mount Sion are the ultimate poachers of players from rural clubs. Last year they tried to poach the two Ferrybank men playing with Waterford today and young Harney from Bunmahon. Portlaw , Passage, Tramore, Ballyduff Lower, Dunhill have all lost players due to it.

How does a club poach a player? The desision is with the player full stop. If he/she doesn't want to go no one can make them.

They poach them by offering them jobs and 'accommodation (Fagan DLS)' ect

Whatever the offer and it happens all the time, the decision rests with the player always, not the club!
