Agree it will be a huge loss, hopefully it's not true but he's still young and hurling is just a game, life is life

I'd be more worried if he came back in 2018 and was half the player he was before he left

Losing him and brick (through retirement) would be a big blow for us

Brilliant player and had a brilliant year but dont think hes irreplaceable. We've never been blessed with as many intercounty standard players, how many waterford lads are playing fitzgibbon these days? and if one or two leave its just a chance for another young guy to grab. Aussie and Darragh Fives are the only ones i'd regard as irreplaceable at the moment. Although our current manager would probably use it as an opportunity to return Shane Sullivan to the first fifteen

Any reports on last nights matches?

Any reports on last nights matches?

Was in for second half of the Ballyduff DLS game and all of the FMW Cappoquin game. From what I saw DLS seemed in control against Ballyduff bar one spell where the village side rattled a goal and few points to close the gap to 5. DLS responded with a goal that broke Ballyduff's spirit and won comfortably in the end.
FMW flew out of the traps against Cappoquin but hit a huge amount of wides especially in the first ten minutes and throughout the second half. This included some very poor freetaking. Cappoquin fought tremendously well throughout and their ability to get goals at crucial times coupled with FMW's wides looked like it could see them claim victory. But FMW completely owned the last 10 minutes and on the balance of play throughout the game probably deserved the victory.

doesnt seem like a week since the all ireland win. head was sore sunday though lol, thank god we won cause even before the match there were lads selling those '162 Waterford James' licence plate things. themselves and the people that bought them pre match would look quite foolish if we lost

I think anyone buying those at any stage looks quite foolish.

Pauric Mahony didn't play or was in the squad for Ballygunner against dungarvan today I heard

    Is he injured ???

Good win for them and Mount Sion over Abbeyside

    Passage beat Portlaw too

One more match tomorrow between Roanmore and Tallow

Hard to knw who will win it but whoever does have a very hard Munster campaign ahead (QF vs the Tipperary Champions in thurles and a possible home semi vs the Clare champions)

Gleeson sent off after 2 yellow cards . 1 very harsh I'm told . Hard to see anyone beating ballygunner

Saw the Abbeyside/Mount Sion game, definitely looked like the ref got it wrong with Gleeson's second yellow. Nobody sitting around me could see how the ref called it a yellow - that included Abbeyside supporters.

thanks the scores and tables are not updated on the Waterford gaa website yet

the rescheduled Round 1 will be played next weekend

Qualifers from grp 1 are decided and next weekends games are only to decide final standings with Ballygunner vs Passage and DLS vs Dungarvan. Portlaw vs Ballyduff Upper will also play to decide who goes into the Relagation playoff

apart from Fourmilewater grp 2 is still all to play for with 3 qf spots remainig. Tallow take on Roanmore today in the final R5 game. next weekend its Fourmilewater vs Abbeyside, Tallow vs Mount Sion and Roanmore vs Cappoquinn

anyone knw the exact dates for the QFs/Sfs and final

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 950 ✭✭✭mickmackmcgoo

Roanmore beat Tallow and qualified. Down to 14 men before half time . Billy Nolan was fantastic . Big future ahead of him and not as a goalkeeper

congrats Roanmore have really improved since coming up to senior years ago

I imagine the entire 2016 Under 21 team will get a run out in the 2017 Munster league. The Gleesons, Benetts, Devine, Curran will most likely be in the squad next year but what other players from the class of 2016 will make the breakthrough ??. are there any other club players impressing ???

amazing how many options we have at the moment, we had so many marquees in say 2002-2009 but we never had 15 (never mind 22) of an inter county standard

new u21 and minor team next year, u21 will have a title to defend minors will be u 17 so a whole new team more or less in both cases , minor really there for the taking for the county best organised to take advantage of the shift

Barron would be a loss if taking the year out to travel. Just as well it's the 1st time that we've had a squad where everyone is of proper inter county standard. Tom Devine will also be taking the year out due to work placement for medical studies.

Probably won't get a mention anywhere but well done Ballymacarberry ladies who today won the senior county title for the 35th year in a row. Unbelievable to win a competition 35 times in a row

Unbelievable club - haven't really rattled the Munster competition in the last few year iirc, but that level of consistency is incredible

I know there isn't a lot of clubs out there in the county to take them on but it must be unprecedented in the GAA . It's a shame so many players drop out when they go to college etc .

The refixed round 1 games were played after the U21's beat Antrim.

Waterford GAA Twitter page posted updated tables last night. May not have been updated with todays games yet.

Shame if the 2 lads are gone but the door will be opened for there replacements. TBH it will be hard to win the all Ireland without Devine Barron and possibly Brick (if he calls it a day).

Maybe next year should be used as the last transition year (any excuses of the squad is in transition etc should not be accepted post 2017).

Has Stephen Molumphy retired? I haven't seen him on a ballyduff team this year.

Bit of a shock with Modeligo beating Lismore tonight. Credit to the victors whom trailed by 7pts at halftime and looked well beaten at that stage,to come back with all guns blazing in the second period. Lismore can thank Seánie Barry in goal for making 2 unbelievable saves thus keeping the loss to the bare minimum. Must be said though that Maurice Shanahan missed a first half penalty also and they were cruising at that stage but why they changed to a sweeper system in the second half was baffling.
Clashmore and Ardmore played out an exciting draw in the first game here which I don't think will be enough to help Clashmore go through. It's turning out to be an exciting Western championship and I'd hate to choose a winner at this stage as there are alot of good teams left in it. Ballysaggart and Lismore next Sunday night so make sure to be there early for a good seat to enjoy this one!!

This is no a shock. Modeligo have been the best intermediate side in the county over the past couple of years. Had Devine been fit to play in the county final last year would have beaten Portlaw for sure. Should have beaten them as it was
