I have done many evil things in the past week in order to afford my switch, evil most foul, traded a vast part of my collection in to get this and I am now almost there, €368 for a Neon with Bomberman, €75 for a pro controller and tbc for Zelda possibly €65 for a standard or €99.99 for a collectors, buying games should t be this hard or complicated.

My right joy con de-synced once, otherwise, no problems at all!
Zelda is absolutely incredible, but ill be honest, snipperclips has it won for me! Absolute gem of a game!

I do, all the time. Not every Irish person has a Sky package or the like(I do by the way). Are Nintendo relying on Irish people watching UK TV?

myself and anyone i know hardly watches any tv channels only live events like matches etc. otherwise its Netflix and other streaming services its much more convenient
then having to watch at a certain time or sit through painful ads.

word of mouth it much more powerful who actually sees something on tv and runs out to buy it?

ive shown my switch to two of my friends yesterday who don't game at all
and they thought it was pretty cool and are considering picking one up

No, they are, as normal, ignoring us completely. But.... It know its not my business, but what do you watch?

Shovel Knight in handheld mode with the Joy-Con 'D-Pad'

Not recommended. Completely different animal with the Pro Controller's.

Was there any coverage of the Switch launch on the news channels? Didn't see anything on Sky News, usually they have something when new technology is launched, I remember them covering the reveal of the console, but didn't see anything for the launch in the shops on Friday. Maybe I missed it.

I'm 100% having the desync issue.
It's very annoying. Only seems to be happening today when yesterday was fine :/

Maybe because I moved the console slightly behind the DVD player on the left. Weird.

It 100% is a thing though.

EDIT: Moved the console like 2inches to the right and no issues, even when sat further away. Crazy. Must send a signal that can be blocked really easily by another device.

I've been musing on the Switch all day. It's great hardware. I'm really impressed by it, genuinely. Zelda is a blast. The potential in this hardware blows my mind.

But, the software just isn't there yet. I thought Zelda would be enough for me, but when I looked at the games schedule, and realised if you remove stuff I won't get a huge amount of play from like Mario Kart or Arms, splatoon 2 is six months away! And thats one game. So I've decided to return my Switch. Or sell it for a decent value, whatever.

I will rebuy one in August, September odd, when its not quite so bare bones, Virtual Console is available, more games, etc. Right now though, my €400 could go elsewhere.

I posted an RTE article from their website on launch day but I didn't see anything on the news on TV or radio. I'll try find it again, it came across as negative.

    https://www.rte.ie/news/technology/2017/0303/856924-nintendos-new-switch-console-goes-on-sale/

Whenever Sony but especially Apple launch a product, RTE are all over it on radio and TV.

Probably wasted my 19.99 on Fast RMX, it really is just a shiny version of Fast Racing Neo :(
Still, it's only 19.99, I spend more than that on nachos and dip in a week.
BotW I enjoyed over an hour or two today, sublime stuff.

Has anyone bought I am Setsuna yet, the €40 price tag is almost as off putting as the €330 for the console both will be a more modest price in a few months but I want to play Zelda now damn the expense, damn it I say. The only solace is first party nintendo games hold their value 99% of the time.

Think I'll return my switch for another one due to abysmal WiFi performance and if the new one doesn't perform any better I think I'll go without until it's fixed down the line.

I'm really enjoying the system but if it's struggling to connect to a router 15 feet away something is wrong.

If you can afford keep it, I would.

I picked up one today, knowing eventually I'll pick one up, (but I have a long haul flight coming up and bomberman was a must with the kids - I can see it now).

I can. But I can just as easily pick one up in the summer when mario kart and splatoon are out, along with the virtual console and other updates.

Worked perfectly first time on my friends surround system. I know that's no help to you but it's worth checking what your surround system supports and what the switch outputs.

Supposedly 5.1 PCM, which my systems supports. I'm not that bothered really, It's just something I noticed, though as I said others have mentioned similar using other surround sound setups. Though like your friend, it works perfect for some. So, if it just gets fixed in a software update, great; if not, I'm still ok with it. :)

Hmmm, thinking I might swap the HDMI around, though.

    Edit: Not the HDMI.

Myself and a few other Samsung KS7000 owners are having problems with the switch.

The TV will auto switch every 30 minutes to an hour to the switch when docked, even if it's doing nothing.

    Hopefully Nintendo will patch it.

OK seems I'm lucky, no disconnect from the controller, WiFi is full bars and the router is upstairs, no dead pixels, I've a Samsung smart TV that isn't causing problems. Loving Zelda and loving the switch so far.
The launch line up is far and away the biggest problem they have. I went to collect the kids from the in-laws today and they said how's the switch, so I showed them and they liked it but when they asked what games can I get for it they were kind of scratching their heads. If it had Fifa and cod at launch a lot more would pick it up for the portability. Not having a Mario at launch is poor. Zelda isn't for everybody and nothing else is console selling. Shame.

Also as much as Nintendo are pushing the indies, you just have to look in the PS Plus thread to see people's opinions on indies in general.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,347 ✭✭✭✭Grayditch

I think it's a different ballgame on PSPlus . I complain about the over-reliance on indie titles on PSPlus, but not when we're dealing with a semi handheld device. For instance it makes sense to me to have indie Vita titles made available for free, but when you're dealing with a powerful machine like PS4, I think people expect a few older AAA games.

The Vita is just a Handheld for JRPGs now so I think that will be getting sold in favour of the Switch.

I'll take indies over the typical 100 hour dreck that passes for so called 'Triple A' these days.

Still I doubt indie is going to sell many Switch games but it is nice to have.

The Vita and 3DS really need a replacement. The switch's success is going to rely on it becoming that replacement.

I have an LG, similar but less damaging issue where the channel announces its availability every 30 mins or so. Initially thought it was the switch being recharged. Now I think its a sleep mode thing, doesn't seem to happen when its off-off but will charge up, and I can still fast launch with the home button.

Edit : nope, happened again later that night. So it seems to be if there's power going to the dock it periodically wakes itself. Is this a side-effect of it polling the internet for news like the WiiU, Wii and 3DS do?

Yeah i think a lot of people lost interest in videogames, what with the over-emphasis on certain genres we've seen in more recent times. I think it's good that Nintendo is 'switching' it up in this regard (pun totally intended). I anticipate we'll see a spike in interest with indie titles as well as local multiplayer which of course is an aim of Switch. That said, i think for the overall success of Switch it's very important to get a certain amount of popular 3rd party stuff on it - love or hate Fifa games, they're absolutely massive sellers and i think it's wise Nintendo has been able to announce Fifa '18 will be coming to Switch. Minecraft and Elder Scrolls(Skyrim) likewise are big franchises and i think Nintendo is very aware of the importance of having big non-Nintendo franchises on the Switch... i want Nintendo to succeed and think they're going about things in the right way, some developers are taking a wait and see approach and that's understandable when you consider the commercial flop Wii U was, but Switch is a totally different prospect and already there seems to be a lot of excitement among gamers and developers alike. Good times ahead hopefully. Come Christmas time i hope there'll be a decent library of titles available and honestly i think there will be. Fingers crossed Nintendo does a decent job on virtual console as well - i like the idea of being able to able to play some old-school Nintendo titles online - SNES Mario Kart, make it happen Nintendo. So much potential with this new machine but i think it'll take a good 2 years before it can be considered a true success or not

Seeing something similar on my LG TV, but it doesn't auto switch, just brings up an option to switch. I make sure to turn off the switch, when I am done with it. Its kind of annoying.

I think there is a bit of launch magic going on for Nintendo at the moment with Switch thanks to Zelda. There does seem to be a big drought for owners once they are finished with Zelda. I can see a few being sold off for a while until the Switch hits its stride.

US retailers seem to be struggling to keep up with demand. Jesus, I really hope this system sells well.
Lots of people seem to really hate Nintendo for whatever reason, but gaming would be so dull without their alternative approach

Yeah, it doesn't make sense to hate a product, I mean, it can't have hurt anyone in a meaningful way, so why hate?
I think, at it's root, it's like football supporters, somehow is a Chelsea fan and they "hate" Man U because... well because they love Chelsea!
PlayStation owners, Xbox owners, some become so invested in their purchase that they latch onto the same viewpoint, hating the others for no real reason aside from an Us and Them scenario.
    Tribalism at its best.
Nintendo has been no stranger, with their owners facing off against Sega owners on schoolyards world wide throughout the 90s, as Atari and Amiga owners did in the late 80s and Spectrum and C64 owners did before that.

But Nintendo have become that third group that thing the other pair of fans can agree on, laying on the hate on that "kids" console, two groups of people who imagine that sitting in their home, pretending to be a racing driver or soldier is somehow less "childish" than playing Super Mario 3D World.

Every company innovates, tries to market that something that makes their products the ones to own, but the PS4 and XBOne have so little in difference that it generates... indifference.
Nintendo have, for good or ill, brought actual innovation to their consoles and always have, sometimes this is a thing that worked out, dpads, analogue stick, portable touchscreen, portable no glasses 3D, and more occasionally it has not, monochrome 3D at home, the WiiU.
And even the people who build and market the PS4 and XBOne acknowledge, the world be a much duller place without Nintendo hardware in it.

Just an FYI the switch charges fine off my Google Pixel C USB c charger. That was with the controls attached and in need of charging too.

Having a few sync issues with my left controller when switch docked and controllers in the controller unit. Sitting about 7 ft from the unit. Not impressed, hope it's fixed in an update!

Did it take longer to fully charge than with the official Nintendo power adapter? I want to use my Nexus 6P charger but was just being cautious before I did!

    Thanks,
