Mad thing is the sports news here and normal news have given up on it also for the most part. Mostly just social media now at this point.

But either way if that article is true it makes those defending his actions look silly if a new team has offered him a contract and he turned it down. Considering its been made out teams are avoiding him and no one wants him.

Depends on what he was offered. It's not as clear cut as your trying to make it out to be although if offered something decent then it certainly hurts his case for saying teams are avoiding him.

With that said I think Kaep will end up somewhere as a back up (he's talented enough to do that in most places) but I do think a few teams have dodged him because of the baggage he brings.

Something decent? The narrative right now is that no one wants him and are avoiding him. That is like sitting on the dole with job offers and turning them all down saying no one wants you. I'm sorry even if someone offered him a minimal backup contract he should take and not allude to "Oh no one wants me and are avoiding me" crap we keep hearing.

Lets wait to see who offered him the contract. I'm skeptical without details.

I'm not sure, I've never heard of the daily caller, is it a reputable source?

This wouldn't fill me with confidence of it being in any way impartial
“Colin thinks he’s fighting a much higher battle than he is,” the source stated. “He views himself as a race messiah.”

The Daily Snark quoting the Daily Caller?

    Bulletproof.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,495 ✭✭✭✭Billy86

Yeah call me skeptical on that. He's an idiot if true and if he got a reasonable offer, but I'm not holding my breath there.

I'm just surprised the daily caller managed to free up the time for this, takes away from those "Russia? Nothing to see here!" and "Bit Hillary! But Obama! But but... deep State!" stories that tend to make up their bread and butter.

Anyone here want Kap as the backup for their team?

Yeah, what backups are better than Kaepernick do you think? I can't think of any.

Titans part owner Susie Adams is selling her stake in the franchise, 33%.
The Adams family still have majority control

Has there been an issue between the league and how the Titans owners owned the team or am I miss remembering that ?

They're unhappy that controlling owner and a non controlling owner both have 33% each of the company. Basically no clear majority.

The company that's buying the Susie's share is a private company, the guys on my Titans forum are trying to see who's on the board of directors, but it's expected that Amy will allow the sale to go through, but she will buy one of the shares giving her an overall majority over the other two 33% owners.

And amy and susie I'm assuming are the daughters of bud Adams who I know owned the team when they were the oilers. Heli were you a fan of the now Titans when they were the oilers or am I puttting years on you ?

Just on the Kaepernick thing. If he gets offered vet minimum then it's a fair offer. He has been awful for the last few years so he doesn't deserve anymore. If he gets a contract and works his backside off then maybe he can look for something more lucrative in a couple of years.

How would vet minimum be fair when that would be 5% of what Mike Glennon will earn this year and 8% of what Jay Cutler will earn?

13% of what Josh McCown makes.

Yeah it wouldnt but lets not let common sense ruin this argument.

It's not exactly right to say Kaepernick was awful last season, extrapolated to 16 games his numbers would look like this (he played 12):

261-of-441 (59.8%), 2,988 yards (6.8ypa), 21 TDs (13th higher percentage in he league), 5 INTs (6th lowest percentage in the league), 90.7 rating (17th in the league), plus a league high 624 scrambling yards (6.8ypa) and another 3 TDs. Even on 12 games only Tyrod Taylor ran for more yards among all QBs.

The accuracy and YPA are far from great, but overall those are pretty solid numbers on an awful team with the tied second highest drop rate in the league, and better than a lot of QBs in the league. Those are not league minimum numbers by a very long shot.

It may not be fair but would he rather have a job or no job at all and complain about not having a job to everyone else while using the nobody wants me line.

I agree he is not as bad as people make out and could actually at least a few team a better option than they have now and he should be paid a wage that at least matches that of the average QB wage.

But one thing I agree with EE if he is as good as he says he is then he should accept any role that comes a long and prove himself and get into that first team and win games. I hope for his sake the rumours about him refusing the role is false because it doesn't help his stock at all especially in a time where some teams would rather go with others instead of him.

I've not seen Kaepernick complain about anything. Have you got a link?

There's no logic in him accepting a ****ty backup role somewhere on ****ty backup money. Had Jay Cutler done that he'd have just cost himself $9m. The right play for Kaep is to sit out until an injury gets him a decent offer somewhere.

He hasn't himself but plenty of people have spoken for him including his GF. You just have to check her twitter. Whether he feels the same is unknown but given the narrative with him so far my opinion is that he probably does. But that is my opinion.

No logic? How so? Either you want to play or you don't. Holding out given his history will get him nowhere seen as most teams don't want him. Given his position he is going to have to realise that at some point the only option he has is to take a backup role and work his ass off to gain peoples trust again. If he is good enough which a lot of people including myself think he is then the minimal contract will be short term.

Either way we don't know how he feels personally. We don't know what he has or hasn't accepted and we still don't know why a lot of teams have passed over him. All we have is speculation and if any of the negative press is true about him about rejecting contracts or not wanting to take a low contract then it doesn't bode well.

I seriously doubt he would have rejected a contract at this point. Remember the contract he signed in SF was full of incentives, very little guarantees and allowed the team to cut him with no penalty after every season. He then re-did the contract to take out the injury guarantee. He has always been fairly confident in his own abilities and I would say he would jump at the chance to prove himself for the option at a better deal down the road.

I think the more likely scenario is that he will not be offered any deal this off season and there is a good chance we won't see him play again in the league. We've had 2 teams check in with sponsors and fans to see how they would feel about signing him so it is obvious teams are fearful of the backlash they would get from signing him.

It's a sad state of affairs but it is not going to improve in the short term so it looks like he is going to be without a job for the moment. The best he can do is keep his head down and be ready in case a call comes due to injury during the season.

I see Spike Lee is organising a pro Kap rally in New York City. I don't see how this sort of thing can help his cause at all but not sure if he is having anything to do with it himself.

I agree with you that we don't know if there's any truth in that rumour (literally, has anyone seen or heard anything beyond that one article on a shady website?) but even if it is true he should not be obliged to take a contract that massively under-values him in relation to other players at his level and below. He's not Geno Smith.

Cutler is a perfect example of why it would be stupid of Kaepernick to take any job on vet minimum money. We've not even hit the pre-season games yet. Someone, somewhere is going to get injured.

Neil Reynolds said on his podcast this week that he was at Baltimore and Miami last week and in both places saw the phones at both places ringing off the hook with season ticket holders demanding neither franchise sign Kaepernick. The level of genuine anger and hatred is definitely real.

Yeah, but the suspicion is that a lot of these calls are orchastrated and not necessarily coming from fans of the teams in question. Whatever about Baltimore he is completely unsignable in Miami after the Fidel Castro T-shirt.
