Mel Kiper and Todd McShay are geniuses for making a living out of something that is complete waste of time. They spends months assigning players to teams then tweaking them and creating buzz over versions 4 and 5 or whatever and then on the night of the draft, someone makes a trade early on that fecks up everything and makes everything they've said completely wrong.

But as I say, geniuses for convincing their bosses that what they do is worth it.

I prefer the mock drafts that go into rounds 3/4, but I had meant the mock draft we do here, I enjoy seeing where other people think there team's need help and who the value in the draft

Yeah to me it's not so much about who might prophetically predict the draft most correctly. That's impossible either way and isn't the measure of an interesting draft analysis or mock for me. As someone with a passing interest in the college game but not much knowledge of it beyond my own team (and even then only a shaky grasp of the to-ings and fro-ings), the pre-draft season is a great chance to hear about who the prospects are, their strengths and weaknesses, and what kind of needs and issues might be weighing into a given team's thought process when it comes to their selection. That's much more important than the infinitesimal chance that one guy or other might get a mock draft right. How insightful a draft is into the teams and the players available is what makes a good mock.

I'm absolutely fascinated with what the top of the draft will look like this year, there's *almost* no consensus about what will happen, and the top three teams really could go any way at all with no obvious top QB and those teams basically having needs at virtually every single position on the field.

Pebble Beach Pro-Am takes place this week and USA Today listed the celebrities that are playing. I love their description of Peyton Manning

Maybe I'm just old and grumpy but Jason Bell is way to smiley and enthusiastic for my liking.

This will be the first of 30 consecutive Sundays with no football. Unless you count the preseason as football.

    What about
    - Free agency
    - Combine
    - Draft
    - Roster Cuts
    - Preseason

No competitive games but lots of craic still to be had!!!!

None of that is football. Contract negotiations, running drills, player selection etc. I'd watch the first half of the first round of the draft but that would be it.

some rumours on twitter that Romo will be released unless there's a serious trade offer. No timelines indicated..

I only got to watch SB LI today..how is the OT fair? Whomever wins the coin toss wins, basically? They choose to receive the ball and score a TD they win? Surely the other team must be given a chance to then receive the ball, go on offence and try to level the score? Like a penalty shootout...? Have others here thought this too?

It's a completely farcical system. The issue was raised by some posters on the match thread.

It's a good system. If you only score a field goal then the opposition get the chance to win or tie the game and then it goes to sudden death after that.

The old system where the first team to score wins wasn't a good one but this one is imo and I think a lot of people would agree.

It's a sh1t system... simple: Both teams should be given a chance to go on offence. Doesn't matter what is scored, both should be given the chance. Team A scores TD then team B must score TD..and on it goes..to not allow the defending team have possession if the attacking team gets a TD is wrong..

I'm a bit gobsmacked that a SB can end like this..

I know this...it's still a rotten system that decides the champion on a coin toss. Because that is how it's decided. You take possession because you won a coin toss, score a TD and you win. The other team should get their chance to reply.

A fair system then should be that if the coin toss winning team takes possession and does not score they lose..works both ways..

Each team should get one chance to possess the ball. The game is about offense and defense and each team should get a chance to show their strength in each area.

Winning the toss gives a massive advantage to the team who wins it.

It's like a toss deciding who takes the first penalty in a shootout and the team who scores wins the shootout or a tie breaker in tennis being played like a normal game and the player who wins the toss gets to serve.

The tennis example is perfect. In NFL the team with the ball has the cards. They call the plays. Totally unfair that the coin toss decides this..

I actually feel deflated after watching it. Reading all about it and the excitement and heroics, and for it to end like that..sour sour taste.

Atlanta had 4 chances to stop NE.

What's the alternative? Keep going till someone stops scoring touchdowns?

How many team would choose to put their defence on the field in this scenario?I would say almost none.

I'd imagine almost none would because the defense have to react to what has happening they don't control anything so they don't get the same opportunity to win.

    The system is simply unfair.

    The college system is fairer.

NFL CBA is having trouble even getting to keep players training in pads. No way they'd allow more football.

If cowboys are releasing Tony it won't be til after June 1 as they'll save an extra $5 million in cap space which they could use for
    1 some free agent signings
    2 tying down Zach Martin
    3 resigning Ron Leary
