Enjoyed the course, delays were a pain but worse thing for me was I was in the first wave and when I finished I wasn't even allowed to get my bag. I was freezing and soaked with no money phone or car keys.

I'm all for beginners being looked after but did anyone see the lady who decided to take to back stroke (early wave, Sprint) from the start and found a pace that was just faster than the speed of the current coming the other way. She got to the start line after a few minutes and as she stared straight up at the sky she did a full u turn without even realising and ended up back in the middle of the next wave lining up. She was turned around and sent back on her way against the current. Not sure what her fate was - from where I was standing there was no way she could have got to the turning buoy against the current. Did anyone notice this?

Saw her as she made her way downstream, one of the safety canoes took it upon themselves to give her an escort and shield her from going into the bank anymore.

She looked like she couldn't swim.

I think its safe to say she couldn't. I just wonder why would you put yourself in that position - surely she knew what her ability was - maybe the try-a-tri to start with?

Panicking on your first swim is different - this can happen to anyone when you can swim but the occasion, the open water, people at close quarters etc gets the better of you - Just get going again!!. But this lady was as calm as you like but just couldn't swim!! It just takes a quick look at the course that you are putting yourself into to see that the current will be against you for the first bit!

Thought I saw a few people who looked like they were swimming for the first time outside a pool in the Olympic too. Hands up, I'm very slow but I make progress. At least I'll know I was quicker than the guy who screamed for the first 5 minutes in my wave

    Now who is being elitist?

There were plenty similar in Carlow I'd imagine had the swim gone ahead as planned the canoes/boats would've been busy.

There were a good few non-swimmers in the sprint anyway. Some people were in real trouble from the off. One woman proceeded upstream by pulling herself along the dividing rope for a good chunk of it.

Anyone seen any AG rankings yet for the Sprint race?

Really enjoyed the race, was wave 11 so lots of waiting around but once it started the race flew by. Swim was a bit vicious but fast, cycle was windy and run was tough but I enjoyed it, once the nausea died down...

Seen two guys in Wave 8 of sprint walk up the whole way along the bank. One was moving his arms as if he was doing breaststroke but was clearly walking. The other guy just blatantly walked. Credit to those who clearly struggled to get to first buoy but swam whatever way they could and never gave up!

Sure what harm. TI have their few bob, race organisers have theirs. As long as they dont die everyone's a winner. If you want to take it super serious go to Cat1.

I see the olympic results have been taken down. I guess they've a bit of amending to do.

I'm only new triathlon and never seen why everyone moaned about people swim ability.

Then I watched the double Olympic start yesterday and seen people have to walk under the bridge and even a lad swimming out in the middle of the river under the wrong bridge gap.

Like surely if you signup for a 3k swim you should have some sort of swimming level !!

Did anyone hear what the outcome was from the bag drop incident? Basically the guy standing beside bag drop wouldn't let anyone in to get their bags after the try, anyone who tried he disqualified straight away. One guys girlfriend went to take his bag for him and he DQ him. Was cold just waiting there!

Surely they didn't leave them all as disqualified.

He was a plonker to put it mildly

I know the dude who got DQed...to be honest this is first time I hear that you can be DQed after the race. Simply discussion with race marshals can not be used as a reason. Even if heated.

Wait till Dublin 70.3 then you'll see fun and games. Get a bad day out there and people will be going to Wicklow on their holidays.

I almost got DQ'd before the race for cycling/rolling to transition check point with no helmet on.

One of the race officials in transition area. My mate was trying to get his bag.

I haven't seen the results yet but I'm assuming lots of DQ's for nudity in transition?? ;)

I wasn't really expecting problems with Dublin 70.3 as I wouldn't expect people to enter a race of that distance without the ability but I'm now beginning to have doubts. If its a windy day there'll be some crack!!

I know of at least 10 entrants that couldn't cover the swim leg at the minute in anything but ideal conditions. I predict at lease 20% DNF it conditions are poor. Although has the swim route been confirmed yet?

Did the Olympic and happy with the race (3mins faster than 3 years ago when I last did it). However, many gripes re organisation (or lack of) - registration pure shambles, I queued for 90mins, far too few staff and my numbers had already been given to someone else so I was allocated a new one. Lack of marshalls on bike course, not one on the very sharp dogleg turn on the way back from Castledermot! Approached water station on run to be told they had no water despite there being heap of full (big) bottles alongside them! Overall I left with the feeling of an event on the demise, too many shortcuts in organisation and cheap penny pinching. Some may argue that they still attract the numbers, but for how long?

Do you think they'll update the results page with the age category splits? This is disappointing.

It was disappointing yesterday - and things have for sure taken a step back. It was all over the place and mostly routed in the morning organisational problems which knocked on for the full day!!

Totally agree. 3rd year in a row I've done this event and the standard drops every year.

Did my second ever tri yesterday and I did feel a bit frustrated with the waiting to get into transition and waiting for my wave (8th sprint). I'm sure the delays will be addressed next time.

Apart from that I loved it. I don't take my times too seriously, so treat it like a dip in the river and saunter out on the bike and a jog in the outdoors. That said, I was happy with my time of 1hr 28 and as I'm signed up for 3 more this year, I want to put it in and see how much I can improve my time. I'm debating doing an Olympic for the last one, it's just that I like the quick time and relative ease of the Sprint.

Transition and Run times were my weakness, but swim (15:10) and bike (39:30) I was pretty happy with.

I even dragged my wife out who did the TryaTri and she was just loving it and wants to do the super sprint in Athlone. I've stuck our medals up for all to see!

    Great attitude!

When coming in off the bike I got off too soon and a marshal said to me "you've a bit to go yet" (about 3 metres!) and I laughed and said that's alright! I didn't have a racing bike and the bike wasn't so much fun for me as a result, but I really enjoyed the swim and the run. Didn't take my times seriously while doing it or in preparation but now that I see how much a difference a decent bike means I might have a different approach next time!

I did it with my husband and I have to say, as days out with your partner goes, it takes some beating. Much rather do this than sit in a pub anyway!
