    Thursday 15th Feb
Plan: 4 miles including 2x(3x 45 sec strides off 2:30 recovery) 1 mile between sets
Actual: 4.7 miles incl 2x(3x 45 sec strides off 2:30 recoveries) 1 mile between sets. @ 10:47 avg HR 135
Lunch Run - decided to change from normal route which was a mistake, ended up doing loops of Merrion Park and being frustrated by the numbers of walkers/strollers out taking up the full width of the paths...Anyway, it's just under a mile from the office to the park so was 1/4 way round when the watch beeped for the strides part. Having just had a conversation with coach about going out too fast I promptly went out too fast....Between the wind, my tiredness level and the overcrowded footpaths this wasn't the best run ever and to add insult to injury I thought I had more distance to cover then I did when I left the park (got fed up doing loops) so I went the long way back to work giving me 4.7 miles instead of four, oh well!

Bike: PM 12 miles @ avg HR 116, more wind! I haven't looked very closely but have slowed down a lot on the bike this winter. It's probably a good thing because my energy levels are most likely 'normal' again as opposed to slightly higher than they used to be.

    Friday 16th Feb
Bike 8.2 miles - short commute in and out of work,

    Saturday 17th February
    Plan: 5 miles steady
    Actual: 5.8 miles steady

I thought about going to Tolka Valley inaugural parkrun but I also needed to be out in Cabo for about 10.30 to pick up the RD kit for next week, so having read the course route and the warnings about only having on road parking and 'not to leave valuables' in your car I decided I'd be better off somewhere else, like Tymon 😀......It's not like me not to have recc'ed the start/finish/car park area to within an inch of it's life but I hadn't. The result being I'd left myself a bit short to find the car park closest to the start/finish area if I wanted to get 2 miles @ steady in before the off. So I parked where I know, near the GAA clubhouse and ventured into the wilds of Tymon. Had not a clue where I was going but eventually spotted a little yellow parkrun arrow and located the start. Beautiful morning for a run - perfect conditions in fact. A quick chat with Raycun who was volunteering then remembered I hadn't done my drills so did those while waiting for the start.
It's actually a lovely park, I've been in it before on the way to the XC course on the other side of the M50 (what a shame they were allowed to cut the park up) and I thoroughly enjoyed the run. There's a bit of a drag in the first KM and then a nice long downhill in the 2nd and it's two laps.. Finished with a big sprint as there was girl on my shoulder who had notions of passing me... got scanned really quickly and then jogged back over to where Ray was marshalling to ask for directions back to the car park - it's not that I wasn't listening but it's a big park, and it seemed like I was running forever without recognising anything......I stopped twice to ask for directions but even the locals seemed confused about the layout!!!! Anyway, got out eventually :D. A lovely parkrun and a friendly team
    1.30 @ 10:23 avg HR 155 (car to startline)
    1 mile @ 9:10 avg HR 150
    1 mile @ 9:23 avg HR 156
    1 mile @ 9:11 avg HR 153
1 mile @ 10:31 avg HR 153 (back to car)
    .43 @ 10:07 avg HR 159

    Totals for the week
    Bike 52.2
    Runs 14.6 miles

I am really enjoying these runs but I am feeling a bit on the tired side this week and I think that's more to do with the meds than the training. Will keep a very close eye on everything over the next week or two.

    Thanks both :o:).

It's not working for me either any more for some reason - yeah it was just a link to my post from valentines day 2016 where I'd run 20 miles 10 @ steady pace in the Phoenix Park - the good ole days!! :D

The link didn't work for me either but i manually went back and read the report. It was a great day and you will be back to that in no time. Stay strong!!

As soon as you left I started thinking I hadn't explained it very well!
I meant to run back along the parkrun route... actually, it might even have been easier to follow the parkrun route out as far as the first marshal...

I should really have gone back to the M50 bridge and gone straight from there as I know that path. Not your fault!!! It's a damn big park!

Sorry I missed you this morning. I had intentions of doing tymon parkrun this morning but turned my alarm off when it rang and didn't wake up til 9:30! Glad you enjoyed it. Mind yourself!

    19th - 25th Feb
Time for a bit of a step back, when you're not doing much to begin with it might seem a bit daft to be stepping back but listening to the body and I was feeling quite tired, so only 3 x 3 mile runs on the cards this week.

    Monday 19th
Bike 12 miles avg HR 119

    Tuesday 20th
Bike 12 miles avg HR 118

    Wednesday 21st
Bike 12 miles avg HR 107

    PM Run:
Drills followed by 3 miles @ 11:22 avg HR 131
A reminder earlier in the week to make sure to get my drills done meant I gave myself plenty of time to do these before meeting a former clubmate for a few easy miles after work. Strava note says:
'Not a good run. Still tired and back v sore. Hr was quite high in the beginning but levelled out eventually. Dizziness that I haven’t had in ages back again. Got bloods done today so will see what that brings'. I was glad to have company for this though, not sure I'd have continued on if I'd been on my own.

    Thursday 22nd
    Run 3.1 miles @ 11:06 avg HR 133.
Had arranged to meet annapr for a lunch run, I did my drills in the office basement before heading out the door to meet her (we have a nice long straight corridor I use for this purpose regularly). Our timing was impeccable as she arrived only seconds after me. She had run in from home so we ran back the same way and took a mini spin through Fairview Park too before I turned around and came back into town. I didn't notice the first 2 miles with the excellent company and we chatted away but when I turned to come back in I was feeling tired again and the dizziness was back. Thanks for the company Anna! Sorry the distance was so short, will build up to longer for the next one!

Bike 12.4 miles @ avg hr 120, bit of a diversion on the way home.

    Friday 23rd & Saturday 24th
Rest days. Had a day off work on Friday so no exercise at all apart from usual dog walks. Made the most of the time off and actually rested. Out to Cabinteely early on Saturday morning for RD duties then. Thankfully while baltic it was dry. As I wasn't too far from Glendalough, I took a spin over to the Upper Lake car park which was the transition area for the IMRA Glendalough Clover 80KM mountain trail run that Neady was taking part in. Sun was shining so the drive up was gorgeous, armed myself with a warm cup of tea and ambled along some of the trails while waiting for her to come in for her 2nd transition. Lovely to catch up again S, I don't know how you do these events, I really don't #awesome, but I wasn't in the least bit surprised to see you found a buddy along the way, everyone else seemed to be running solo. Lots of very fit looking athletes coming in and out on their way to the last 25km section.

    Sunday 25th Feb
    3.2 miles @ 11:05 avg HR 137
My back has been very sore for the last 10 days or so, I finally caved in and took some painkillers on Thurs/Friday/Sat which definitely helped. Also had a treatment on it this morning that really seemed to make a big difference, hopefully the worst is over now and there's not something more sinister going on. Anyway, feeling a lot looser heading off for my run today. Went down to the canal at Clonsilla for my last 3 miler and topped the week off with another run in company, this time with aero2k. A wise decision as the canal was really sheltered from the cold breeze, so much so in fact I had to loose a layer and ran this in just a tshirt & leggings, no need for hat or gloves, it was absolutely beautiful. Every time I run down here I always say I must remember to run there more often - I must remember to run there more often!!!! Great to see aero back running after a long layoff with injury.

I really enjoyed my 3 easy runs with such great company especially when my easy pace is so much less than everyone else's so it's very much appreciated. Hopefully that will change as the weeks go on. So thanks to A, Anna and S. I'm feeling less tired now going into next week so the step back worked, also a small meds adjustment is playing it's part too I think.

I hope to feic Met Eireann have got this weeks forecast wrong! I hate having my bike commute interrupted by weather and apparently it's not a good idea to cycle on snow

Awh AM, I'm so sorry that you've been so tired and there you were standing around in the feicking baltic cold waiting for me to come in and then listening to me whinging for 5 or 10 minutes :o Thanks so much for being a happy cheery smiley face for me and giving me buckets of encouragement in Glendalough once again :) Your wise words got me over the hump that was leg 2 :)

Indeed Lar and I are now best buddies :D despite the abuse I was giving him to move out of the checkpoints fairly lively :D You and I will be sharing on those trails soon enough.

:D I think you're exaggerating slightly, I must find the photos I took when I was strolling around. I should have brought my running gear and ran out a few miles to meet you but was afraid I'd get lost!! There was lots of interesting chat going on in the transition area and I got to see the winner coming in (doing a phenomenal pace!) so it was a very enjoyable afternoon.

    We sure will :).

Sorry to hear you've been feeling a bit sub-par but sounds like you did all the right things and glad it seems to have had the desired effect. I get the dizziness thing quite a bit on or just after runs too - it can be very unsettling! Hope the results from the blood tests come up ok :)

Do you? Do you know why or have you investigated it? I've been putting mine down to needing a thyroid meds adjustment but maybe there's something else going on!! It's horrible whatever is causing it although I went out at lunchtime today for 3 miles and it's completely gone thankfully :). I don't think it's something we should ignore or accept though..

AgyR i get that dizziness when my iron is low. Is this a possibility for you?

Hmm, I was told when originally diagnosed that my iron was perfect, everything else was too but it’s not beyond the realms of possibilities that could have changed. I hope to have my thyroid update tomorrow, they’re dragging their heals coming back to me but I’ll know much more then.

I don't exactly know why, but I've always assumed a link with hormonal issues/imbalances. My thyroid was checked and came back fine so it's not that with me anyway. Low iron stores was certainly a factor, but they've come up a bit and I still get it, so I don't think it's solely down to that either. My way of dealing with it so far has been to assume it's all grand and ignore it! :o

Can't dizzy spells be associated with low blood pressure too? Has the doc said it's nothing to worry about?

    That's a good point S.

eyrie I'd get that checked out, whatever it is it's not normal. It could well be hormone related or as S says low blood pressure (my RHR is quite low these days, I'm sure that impacts on BP). Either way you should find out what's causing it so you can at least know what you need to do (rest, slow down, take iron etc etc).

Good points both, I'll ask about it. I tend to avoid the doctor as much as possible! Or I should say I've been lucky enough to be able to.

AGYR hope you get your results back today and that they explain things for you

    Hello!

It's nearly 2 years since I logged here. I have been dipping in and out and read most of the regularly updated logs. I have been thinking about resurrecting this on and off for the last few months, I did consider a new log but the title of this one still resonates with me and here's hoping there will be some accomplishments in 2021.

I've been keeping minimal fitness for the last few years while I recovered from an autoimmune disease with some swimming, cycling and on and off running/jogging but obviously I'm nowhere near where I was, and of course there's the Corona Stone.... The goal here is to improve fitness and start bringing up the mileage to something resembling a runner again. One of the benefits of Covid is that there are no races for me to sign up for left, right and centre so I want to use this time wisely. Santa brought me a new watch which allows me to use Garmin Coach and I started last week on a Greg McMillian plan that adjusts depending on how you do each week which is pretty cool I think. I've also been concentrating on strength training which is making a big difference to my running.

Monday: 4 miles easy @ average 11:12 avg HR 139
    Warm up: 5 mins @ 10:24 (downhill)
    35 mins @ between 10:39 & 11:40 - actual @ 10:58
Cool down 5 mins @ 14:28 (walk up hill)

    Tuesday: Strength session 28 mins
Warm up followed by 2 x sets of:
    8 push ups
    30 sec mountain climbers
    30 sec plank
    30 sec v ups
30 sec torture exercise I can't remember the name of!
    8kg KB squats
    30 sec jumping lunges
    30 sec burpees
Added in 2 x sets of 30 sec 12KG kettle bell swings for good measure

Tomorrow's run is a progression which I'm really looking forward to!
