The divert happened 2 days ago.....

Flight diverted due to snow, yet 2 days later there's not 1 flake to be seen on the ground - weird that, particularly for Chicago

This was the day in question, looks wretched. Not unusual for the weather to change dramatically in the Chicago area due to the influence of the lakes.

What's weird about it? Snowfall often happens in Chicagoland in early winter only to thaw again - like it has been here yesterday and today. Did you check the snow-cover maps for Sunday and Monday? Many of the suburbs north and west of downtown picked up almost a foot of snow.

Downtown; the wind was out of the East and hence from the lake for half of the event. Therefore; this moderated the airflow and resulted in snow falling as sleet along the lakeshore until about noon on Saturday; when it turned to snow and dropped several inches downtown.

O' Hare itself had some of the highest snowfall totals seen for November in several years. At the time the 123 was approaching; the wrap around from LP system was moving through; with even colder air from the north; enhancing snowfall rates beyond an inch per hour.

There is no mystery here and certainly nothing 'strange' about it. Conditions were blizzard like for a time on Saturday and many flights were cancelled at ORD.

So F-EIWF1 apparently is number two with the best "score". I vaguely remember someone here who may be the owner of it. Can't remember for the life of me who it is though.

Anyway, to whoever it is, thanks for sharing.. :)

Its myself who set it up, but I can't take all the credit as I don't own the site on which its situated. Its on a mountaintop broadcast site in the Blackstairs Mountains owned by a company in Waterford called Total Broadcast, whom kindly permit its presence and supply electricity and internet for free. :)

Its interesting that its got a higher average range than any I can see on that list! The mountain is 500m high.

Yep all planes coming in From the south right now, ain't seen this during the day in a long long time?

Any reason? About to head off out to the airport to catch a flight myself but the planes are on approach over my house at the moment, as I said very rare!

Once a month the DAA are required under international aviation law to conduct a daytime walking inspection of a main runway if it is over a certain age. This happens mid week in the last week of every month at this time as it is usually the quietest hour of the day/week.

A walking inspection involves personnel walking the length of the runway to visually inspect its condition rather than from a vehicle driven at a reasonable speed.

And ORD dudes couldn't cope?, despite them being one of the most efficient snow clearers on the planet. Just so early in the season for cancellations. How and ever, it happened so that's that.

Probably spacing for the oceanic track... looks like its about to pick it up now:

Often for oceanic routings, as separation is time based due to lack of radar, an aircraft will be given a time restriction to enter oceanic airspace, e.g. 'Cross waypoint xxx at or after 1400'. Once in the air at cruising altitude with say 150 miles to run to the entry point it is can actually be very hard to achieve these restrictions by just slowing down as its not possible to slow down much (normally one has leeway of 3 minutes with their ETA). Therefore a significant delaying vector is required as this seems to be.

Bombardier CS100 C-FFCO over Iceland at the moment, heading back home after a short visit to Riga. I presume it's to do with the fact that airbaltic is CS300 launch customer, however - what surprises me is that the tour was limited to just Riga. I was sort of expecting it to see in some other places including Dublin as one of the lessors is ordering good few of them as well.. Fab looking machine

Would have been good to see it in Belfast too; morale in Bombardier here is rock-bottom at present, anything would be a boost.

And to rub salt in the wound the C-Series that they sent over to the Dubai show stopped-over in Stansted :(

Wind tommorow morning and afternoon look potentially disruptive to Irish airports, especially Cork.

Am on a flight to Nice in the morning, looks like I will have to be at the airport bar early for a couple of drinks to calm me before take off!

To nice? You'll be fine :) Takeoff is not affected nearly as much as landings by winds.

Have had many a bumpy landing and enjoy them but don't enjoy a bumpy take off.

When are Aer Lingus going to introduce WiFi so that we can watch ourselves on FR and listen to ATC while in the sky? Would be happy to pay for it.

TAF Showing Dublins strongest wind as 260 degrees 33kts gusting 52kts which is a tempo from 10am-1pm. Maybe minor disruption, especially among smaller aircraft.

TAF showing Corks strongest wind at a TEMPO (prob 40%) from 8am-2pm at 260degrees 30kts gusting 50kts. In that wind Stobarts can't land and I'd doubt much will. (It's the direction that counts here)

Shannon is getting a fresh 260 degrees 33kts gusting 50kts as a Tempo from 5am-12pm. Can't see much disruption.

Knock has, from 8am-11am a tempo giving 250 degrees 32kts gusting 50kts. Doubt much disruption will take place.

Same as previous storms by the looks of it.
