    How does it read? Does it read like a mystery novel or like a newspaper article?

    I read 1Q84 recently, it was pretty good, with a bit of a disappointing ending. Also read The Thirty-Nine Steps, which was decent fun.

    As per wikipedia, it's a non-fiction novel: clearly Capote well researched the material which forms the basis of the book, and then interweaves the plot. What is real and what is imagined, I have no idea. It could easily be a complete work of fiction - but of course it's not at all. It's pretty damn good anyway.

    Ulster championship match managed to encapsulate what I both love and hate about watching GAA. The first half was a brilliant display of football in awful conditions with some excellent scores, wonderful skill (the flick off the deck from Peter Harte was ridiculous) and flowing moves.

    As soon as the half time whistle went, it descended into farce with handbags between not only the players but the back room staff also with it spilling right onto the touchline and supporters clamoring around the fence to shout abuse. The second half was nothing but niggle and posturing. Players shoving each other and mouthing at one another in an attempt to wind one another up when the ball was at the other end, cynical fouling, multiple bookings, two red cards and a far, far less entertaining contest in terms of skills on display.

    Frustrating old game.

    Have 1 or 2 things sorted, so I'll be a gym bunny for a few months...... Weeks....days...Fck, I'll give it a go tomorrow....after my kebab tonight

    Same here a chronic knee injury has proven to need regular exercise otherwise I'm crippled

    I took up sailing and it made a huge difference, haven't sailed since Sept and the pain is foul

    If the purpose is to drop a few pounds, remember, diet is the main thing. The gym/working out is great but what you put into your body is far more influential on your weight. Set your meals out at the start of the week, stick to them and drink as much water as you can. 3-4 litres a day will not only keep you hydrated and feeling much better but will help curb snacking.

    The first couple of weeks are the hardest but if you get through them then you realise you feel better, look better and sleep better and it all becomes that little bit easier to keep going.

    Yeah any fit freak will tell you getting the physique or fitness you want it's done in the kitchen, not the gym. That goes for adding OR losing weight. Both are important bland you can't really achieve one without the other. While you can get strong with gym work you'll never add muscle or remove body fat if you ignore the kitchen part.

    Nah my goal is to build up muscle, the knee injury I suffered detached a nice lump of cartilage so I need to build up muscle to compensate for that

    Tis why sailing was so good lot of squatting

    Sailing season is back on so I may get into it again, and see a personal trainer for a weights program

    I had the same Stheno. I have a tendon below my right knee that will flare up and the only cure seems to be dosing on ibuprofen.

    Cycling though doesn't seem to cause pain. I cycled the other night and it didn't hurt before or after, but it's hard to know until I do some proper distance.

    The gym though? Lifting heavy things = pain. :pac:

    I need to get it scanned but I'm too tight to pay 50 quid to some doctor to refer me for an MRI. Annoys me too much handing over that money for 5 minutes of their time.

    Yeah, I have a diet prepared for me, its a bit harsh, but I've dropped from 110kg to 104.8 in about 5 days (this isn't just diet, its also coming off meds ) but I'm hoping to get to 85kg by November

    Yep same here ibuprofen when needed then ive tylex and ponstan as well they never get rid of the pain though

    I was on crutches for nearly five months after the accident, I literally slipped in a wet car park, but all the physio was weight based, squats, planks, resistance bands etc in an aim to build up my quads and hamstring to support my knee

    I did weight a as part of it too and it helped

    I used the sports surgery clinic in santry and they were great am heading back to them soon as I need to deal with the daily pain and my physio was great

    You do need that referral though!

    Cycling was recommended to me, but at the time my knee couldn't rotate enough if that makes sense, looking into it now

    I've actually started walking the dog in the evenings to the dulcet tones of fatboy slim. I'm seriously considering doing a half hours walk in the morning - 6 - 6.30 a.m and then the half hour in the evening should see me right. As you get older you realise that you can't eat and drink as much junk as you want to.

    I inherited the tall and skinny genes, can't put weight on for the life of me, but am starting to enjoy an evening walk
