Just discovered Jonathan Dunn's soundtrack for the Robocop game on the ZX/C64. How does anyone look at Robocop and think this is the perfect song to soundtrack its tie-in game?

I can't get it outta my head, by the way.

More into washing machines myself :pac:

Every bit of my research into the song either leads to that or some weird **** about a Dilbert 3 that I' frankly afraid to look at going by its thumbnail.

Ah its just a title tune a bit like the ocean loaders, doesnt have to directly tie in with the game. The ingame music has a good funky beat for walking along to.

I get what you mean though, Chase HQ 2 is one or the worst culprits, cool music with suspsense in the intro and then absolutely silly music ingame.

Jeroen Tels intro to Robocop 3 is far more fitting:

Johnathon Dunn absolutely nailed the soundtrack for Platoon though, its very fitting especially the atmospheric music in the tunnels with the water dripping sounds.

Apparently the switch has been totally cracked for system 3.0.0 backwards

This has been a paid public pirate party production :P

Christ. We'll see emulation NES and SNES games en masse on the Switch before Nintendo get anything of their own out.

I still say that alongside the launch of the SNES Mini they should release a Switch version with all 21 games in a compilation. Charge €60 for it if you want, I'd buy both.

Christ, already? That's bad :( If piracy becomes an issue on it, it could stop publishers being interested in it. Hopefully the security architecture is such that a mandatory firmware update will lock out the exploit, and they'll need a whole new vector to hack it again, ala the PS3 when fw 3.55 got hacked. If not, and it's a low level hack and new firmware only buys time, then Nintendo have fracked up here.

I do enjoy hacking consoles, but the Switch is waaaaaay too new for this to be a good thing.

Bad news for the Nintendo family indeed. Even the ps1 got a full year before the old crow hit the scene, it could be very hard for them to bounce back from this

It's a pile of shi1te is what it is.
Only software sales are going to keep the fires burning at Nintendo and rampant piracy will bugger the system.
Don't believe them when they say it's all about homebrew, it's about stealing new games and all it'll do is damage the device.
I'd hope that firmware will stay ahead of the pirates though, but not much will stop the determined.

Certainly where the security is rubbish anyway. Sony have been very impressive in recent years, the PS3 post 3.55 is rock solid all these years later, and there's no active piracy options on the PS4 either (one was patched there recently, it was a hardware hack which allowed infinite game sharing or some such...nuked with a firmware update). The Xbox One hasn't been scratched at all since release, with seemingly rock solid security (albeit there's arguably less incentive to hack the One though).

Nintendo have a dreadful history on the security front, the DS, 3DS, Wii, and Wii U are all wide open, and we're opened up relatively early into their lifespan too.

If the whole system is cracked this will kill the system. Look at what happened to the DS in it's final few years. Publishers and developers abandoned ship as piracy killed any chance of getting good sales on the system leaving only indie publishers like Altus and the likes with dedicated fans guaranteed to buy their games. It will lead to a massive loss in published software on the system. I really hope it's locked down quickly.

Terrible news for Nintendo alright, lots of firmware updates for "stability" to come.

They need Lenslok in the meantime.

Does online gaming not require updated firmwares and basically killing piracy to the masses? Who in there right mind would stick with an old firmware if you couldn't game online. It's like Apple jailbreaks, they used to be fun but then not getting the latest updated features made it so you were better off just updating.

Mildly spammy post but actually think this is pretty good value as far as kickstarter goes.

Final-ish call for the Crash Annual revival. A basic pledge (15gbp +postage) gets you the book, a calender of Oliver Frey Crash covers, an A3 map of Pentagram originally drawn by Oliver Frey and tidied up by Mark Jones (artist at Ocean) and Enamel Crash Smash badge.

Edit: (next tier reached so) you'll also get 50% off a retro books book from fusion retro website.

Once you've a fully exploited firmware, it's possible that you can then spoof future firmwares, in able to play online and avoid updates etc. Plus, not everyone cares about online multiplayer

The DS was hardly destroyed by piracy it had a spectacular run. I think it's just when a handheld hits it's end phase 90% of the audience is 4 to 8 year olds so all the shops stock is licenced shovelware and the AAA adult games get lost in the mix.

PC has an absolute glut of piracy but stuff still sells well on Steam because it's priced sensibly. The only reason people wouldn't buy loads of digital indie games on Switch and resort to piracy is they typically retail at twice the Steam price and you don't have things going on sale as often.

Messing about with firmware is still more hassle than 99% of an install base are prepared to bother with. It's like jailbreaking your phone.

That depends on the security architecture, sometimes it can take a bit of effort to do like the 3DS currently, other times, it's identical to manually installing an official software update (the PS3 & fw 3.55 spring to mind).

Whatever anyones thoughts on this are, it's safe to say a full exploit on such a new console is a bad thing.

Cold Winter and Urban Chaos Riot Response are 2 under rated fps games.

I personally think The Getaway is underrated. Proper map of london down to the shop fronts and a really cold and dark 3rd person shooter. Makes GTA look like a cartoon.

There are masses of great shmups on the system.
Gran Turismo 4, Kaido Racer 2, Battle Gear 3, tons of great stuff.

Thanks lads, adding them all now. Any of the suikoden or wild arms titles worth a play do ye know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,004 ✭✭✭Shapey Fiend

The PS2 has probably the best library of unusual games ever. I'd say Gitarooman, God Hand, Gregory Horror Show, Disaster Report, Bombastic, Mister Mosquito.

More obvious suggestions would be Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution, Outrun 2006, Fire Pro Wresting Returns, Initial D Special Stage, Yakuza 1/2, Rez.

I'm not really an RPG guy so unsure about Suikoden & Wild Arms but the PS1 versions were very popular.

Check your drawers for old Spectrum games! 3 sealed ZX Spectrum games sold for nearly 900 euro yesterday on eBay. 900 flippin euro.

Tbf they look mint, Knight Lore, Nightshade and Alien 8. UPTG titles sell quite well regardless (but not THAT well)

Thinking about it, I never remember sealed Spectrum games, you took the case you'd been looking at every millimetre of, at the totally non representative screen shots, to the counter and the man would give you the tape and instructions. Ocean even had their own little bags that had everything in the box for their bigger games.

    That's crazy money alright.
But, if they were minty, they are amongst the most iconic of Spectrum titles, especially the packaging and art.
    Mad though.

Suikoden V was good and had some nice designs, though I think IV is the only one thats actually bad.
